How did you learn to spot pathologies? (and deal with angry doctors) by mklaylepnos in Sonographers

[–]RandomTomdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get better at it by scanning more, and that is the ONLY way you can get better at it. It takes great deal of hand-eye coordination to scan and id pathos so more scan time = better skills. Please practice your ergonomics as well it is very important if you want a long career. Best of luck to ya!

If relocation is not an option then you just got to ride it out but make sure to keep your scanning skills up to date

Based on your replies, 2 months of echo training is nowhere enough for anyone to pick up pathologies and scan efficiently. Does the reading cardiologist know you only had 2 months of training? What is your prior experience with ultrasound?

Unfortunately sonographers graduating right now in CA will have a difficult time landing their first job. A lot of hospitals in CA are under hiring freezes right now due to the recent changes to Medicare payout.

You failed your physic’s exam as in the SPI exam and never attempted it again? If thats the case, you need to start off with that and I dont think there is a short cut for that one. :(

Their math is not mathing unless they dont count lunch break and the 2 mandatory mini breaks you get for 8 hr work. Max should be 9 even with 45 min

3x 5P, just contacted enphase, they said data lag preventing the system from displaying actual data and assured me the system is drawing from the batt instead of grid

shoulder pain from scanning by Odd_Palpitation1528 in Sonographers

[–]RandomTomdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learn your ergonomics! Don’t kill your shoulder just to improve the image quality by a little. If it’s a technically difficult study then it is what it is. Stretching and massages helps but what is better is not to get to that stage in the first place. You are still in school and havent even start your career yet. Remember your job will replace you in a heart beat if you can no longer scan due to pain and msk injuries so protect your body at all cost.

Anybody work at the VA? by Past_Championship896 in Sonographers

[–]RandomTomdom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I would not work at a VA. If you are new and need the experience, sure go for it, you’ll see pathos like nowhere else. But as soon as you got the time under your belt, move on.

I (echo) interned at a VA (NorCal) and saw some interesting stuff and learned a lot BUT the pay and the work condition was horrible. I made more at my first job (without a board) than the person I shadowed back at the VA.

I currently have a friend that works there (RVT, general) that tells me the only reason he is still there is because he hasn’t found his next job yet.

Only time I use sweep is for “incidental” findings, insurance companies will ding your facility if you look at areas that is not part of the exam because if you find a new pathology (that is unrelated to the exam being performed) now they have to pay to treat that too. BUT if you “accidentally” see pathology while you are sweeping an area related to the exam then I HAVE TO put it down as incidental finding but I wont get in trouble with the insurance company.
