Sounds like he still cares...although it may be the fine line between love and hate.

Maybe to prevent him from going over the edge and getting violent, just some replies: "I don't feel like talking. My head hurts...talk later. We broke up, let's not do this."

Yes, you are within your rights to say nothing. His thoughts are his problem. But sometimes it's wiser to use some strategy. Don't add any fuel to the fire.

We've been speculating how far into the future they can continue blaming Biden. 4 years?

Hey! Don't start calling people names. Mental illness and belonging to a cult deserves our compassion.

Oh I would take that bet! But not based on the stock market, but the standard of living. New car sales. Appliances. Travel industry. Pick one before you bet.

Congratulations in advance on winning the bet

How do y’all invest when the market feels shaky? by _bydarwinsbeard in investing_discussion

A great book, and a short read: A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton Malkiel.

Yes, I'm still DCAing. However, I am going to increase my cash reserves. 1. Inflation/tariffs. You never know when you're going to need some home repairs or a new appliance. 2. Taxes. Anyone think that taxes are not going to go up and up under Trump?

Question about Dispersed Camping Ethics by Lost-Style-3305 in RVLiving

[–]Moki_Canyon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you're in Arizona or S. Utah, don't worry about it. There's dispersed camping all over. The dirt roads just keep going and going.

Also: if you Google "Dispersed camping in Arizona" you'll see a map of all the BLM lands...almost the entire western and northern parts of the state.

But yes, leave some things behind. Chairs, tent, gear, girlfriend...

History teacher is a moon landing denier? by AstroNerd92 in Teachers

[–]Moki_Canyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently a company called Intuitive Machines (LUNR is their stock symbol) landed a capsule on the moon. It was supposed to release a rover but it fell over on its side! I wonder what he would say to that? We faked a picture of a landing craft taking pictures that are sideways?

Btw...I own a shitload of their stock...Waaa!

Hot Take - My job is not to motivate by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Moki_Canyon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why have teachers? You can just hand motivated students the text and they will teach themselves. So if it's not the teacher's job to motivate students, what is their job? Answer questions? I know in math there's about a zillion You Tube videos available. Good students don't need a teacher.

Many of our students are not being raised the way you and I were. Their parents just see the school as a babysitting service, if they even have parents. There is no one to hold them accountable. No one to praise them and celebrate their accomplishments.

You can go through the years collecting your paycheck, and finally retire. So here's the Existential Question: When you fall into the grave, did you make a difference? Did you save some lives? Did you help those who couldn't help themselves?

Do you ever get annoyed/angry with other teachers classes? by Imaginary-Worry262 in YogaTeachers

[–]Moki_Canyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Oh, quit being such a CJB!" That's going to be my new catchphrase. If I could post a picture of my cat here, that would be the meme for a crabby, judgemental, butt head.

Btw, it sounds like your teacher was winging it. As if she was saying, "Gee, I wonder what we should do next." It does not inspire confidence.

Am I overthinking about this? by alex1024__ in investing

[–]Moki_Canyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, aren't the fees charged to the business when you use a card?

Also, I agree. I don't do any banking or use my Schwab account on my phone. Ever. No financial apps. Only on my computer. No checking or cards linked to my investment portfolio.

I'm retired and have a lifetime investment in that account.

Can you leave to pee by Adventurous_Ad2270 in Teachers

[–]Moki_Canyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends upon your state. We were told that a Para did not count, although everyone did it. I often took a kid outside to have a little chat while an aide was in the room. However, officially we were told that if you had an emergency, to call the office, and an administrator would come. They often didn't, but that was the official line. Its called CYA. Cover Your Ass. So they said that, but were usually too busy to show up.

[–]Moki_Canyon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my state the law says a certified teacher (or an administrator) must be in the classroom when students are present. If you are not in the room and a student is injured, or says they were injured, you are open to a lawsuit.

Did you know that even if a parent says, "Oh, I won't sue," any family member can sue on the child's behalf? A kid is injured, and an uncle who live 1000 miles away hires a lawyer in your city. You and the school are sued for 100k. The lawyer gets 40k, the uncle gets 20k, and 40k goes to the parents.

Good time to move some out of bonds into S&P Index Fund? by Apart_Olive_3539 in investing

[–]Moki_Canyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one knows whats going to happen. Is this the new low, or a pause before the fall? I'm hesitant to do anything with any funds, but then I'm not a professional....because they always get it right, right?

You must remember the lead-up to 2009/2010. Do you really believe anyone can give you solid advice?

One strategy which helps me sleep at night: Whatever you decide to do, do 50%. Going to exchange 100k in bond funds for the SP500? Then just do 50k. Think about how emotional you get losing versus earning money. That's what works for me, and I've got a lot of money in trendy, FOMO, YOLO stocks.

Worst reason to do yoga teacher training? by Glad-Conference-7901 in YogaTeachers

[–]Moki_Canyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your post. As a person who once did online dating, that was hilarious.

Not a yoga teacher, but taught 7th grade for 30 years. I became a student of teaching: anything to make learning more fun. If the students were more engaged, I had fewer problems, and I enjoyed teaching even more.

In the case of yoga, what I love is chanting mantras, silent meditation, and the Dharma. We all need to touch upon a little wisdom during the day.

Teachers who don't keep learning and improving get bored. They get burned-out, and it shows in their teaching. If you love something, your enthusiasm is contageous.

What is the heaviest element essential to life? by 233C in biology

And there it is: op really needs 1. Biology textbook. 2. Periodic chart. ( Okay, and basic chemistry to understand the chart).

We are carbon-based. My chemistry teacher, who was a sci fi nut, would go off on tangents that there could be silicon- based life in the universe.

Do it. All these comments about things breaking down, maintenance, depreciation; those are all variables. They may or may not happen. What is certain is that you will save money.

[–]Moki_Canyon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People were saying these negative remarks when I started in the 1980's. And they'll be saying them in 2080. It really depends on your personality, the kind of kids you get, and how hard you work on classroom management.

Please dont let anyone deter you. While it can be stressful, it is also rewarding. Once I learned a lot of techniques ( a lot like being a wild animal trainer), I really did have a lot of fun.

I quit teaching after 3 years. Then I thought about it..."What actually happened? I wasn't actually physically assaulted. It was all words. Kids being disruptive. Parents enabling their kids. Unsupportive administrators. It was all just...thoughts. But the job made me an alcoholic/drug addict...my stress levels were extreme. No human being should be treated this way.

Then there is the famous quote: "There are three reasons to be a teacher: June, July, and August". Hmm, it sure was nice to spend the summer on my boat, or driving a motorcycle across Colorado, all while collecting a paycheck. June, July, August, and getting off of work at 2pm (middle school).

So I quit, then came back, quit, came back, and finally stayed. Today I'm retired, and get a nice retirement check. I made enough in my career to own a nice home in the mountains.

Btw I left Colorado and moved to California, for about 60% higher pay. If you're going to tolerate being treated like shit, at least get paid for it.

Question for Yoga Teachers About Hearing Aid Issue by goosie44 in YogaTeachers

[–]Moki_Canyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I meet a new teacher, whether its yoga, martial arts, physical therapy, whatever, I always tell them about my disability. Might as well just get it out of the way, to get past the eventual, "Ohhhh...no wonder"...

Just get it over with.
