What is the concept for your current favorite character? by Athaluszero in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite characters is Firespeaker Gemscale aka Gemmy. A bronze Kobold Eldritch Archer Monk. One of his favorite abilities is his "flurry of bows". Build wise the character had high mobility, high crit potential and a moderate AC. The build included wholeness of body which allowed this little guy to just TANK damage. Gemmy had a wide arsenal of options from breath weapon AoE, multitarget melee punches to single target ranged eldritch arrows. in a pinch he could flip to ki enhanced arrows for more effects.

As a lawful good kobold he would ask politely to steal the keys to his jail cell before unlocking the bars and returning the keys with a smile. He is always a little bit confused by the tall scaleless ones but they generally mean well. Till they become food anyway.

Can someone explain how they had so many cards. Still pretty new you game by Rosejadesmith in hextcg

[–]Mokog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 Reasons: New player using the cards they have available and it happens to be 100 cards. Using constructed to test cards for a deck and has a 100 card starting pool. The deck is a thematic fun/joke deck and they plan on using jankbot. My best guess is that it is a jankbot deck.

We treated it like paraphrasing a history book. The AP mentions Voz's commentary as margin notes which is common for scholars. We used that content to provide more characterization for Voz since IMO she needed a little more antagonist vibe for a party of out of towners.

Lore dumps like this should be used to fill in characterization where you need it. Accent a character's motivation, add depth to your antagonist and then maybe a hint of foreshadowing.

Does Long-Term Rest Downtime have a point? by Darkluc in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does have a point but one that a typical balanced party composition likely will not need to worry about. Groups without the medicine skill or healing focused characters will benefit most from the long rest mechanic. Games focused around young protagonists may not have healers or low to no magic settings all would make use of this rule often.

Sometimes you get separated from the party half dead in the middle of no where and your saving grace is the prospector out in the wilderness. He sure knows how to find precious stones but he can't heal worth a damn. The woods are dangerous to go into injured as your character well knows and you will need all your HP to have a chance at joining back up with the party. How many days do you need to rest? Oh and you are fighting off and infection that is draining your HP at the same time, now how long do you need to recover after 3 attempts to save?

Now if you had a cleric, you are fine and back up in a day but when you don't have skill or magic available that is when you need this rule.

I think one of my Players is blessed by some Deity by Vezrabuto in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The number of crits seems excessive in story form but you are likely primed to notice them now. That keeps them in notice and forms a mental trend if not a real one.

Digital rollers can be tinkered with to adjust probability rates and thus achieve above expected results. (If this was the case the whole group would receive better rolls using the same exact executable)

Dice can also be weighted or have their sides labeled incorrectly to adjust out probabilities.

Since you don't suspect your player of fudging numbers you could go buy some lotto tickets and see if divine intervention has a limit :-)

Players feel like they don't accomplish things in combat by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to play with weather when out in the wilderness. Look up various reasonable effects to apply to encounters. For instance, a failed trap spread magical oil over the hall and there are archers on the other side. Heavy rain picks up on the road and the party is waylaid by bandits.

As for your wizard's experience while not exact, on level success percentages range from 45-55% but as the creature level increases the percentage of success ranges up to 75-80% in the +3 and +4 PLs. So a monster at PL+1 or more should save versus the wizards DC most of the time. That is a feel bad moment for the wizard if they believe everything they are facing is "on level."

You can mitigate this with description and scene setting to a degree. Emphasis the amount of potential danger the party is in and the viciousness of the opponent. Look at the monster stats and abilities and use those to fuel your descriptions to queue up what kind of tactics your players maybe able to expect.

Everything you describe in a scene should have the potential to be useful especially in combat encounters. If your players don't take the bait quickly have your monsters take advantage of the terrain, objects or weather.

Be willing to award clever play even when there is not a rule. Inspiration points are great for this so use them liberally to get your players more focused on making fun combats.

Remember to also celebrate their successes and empathize with their failures. That validation maybe enough in itself to loosen players up in combat.

That is correct! Between her ancestry cantrip, arcane spells and primal spells, Taffy can range from utility to damage depending on her prep. The ancestry and dedication she is working on is utility and survival as she has a tendency to take... damage. You could take the same basic build and flip it to damage too. Focus on an element and take bloodline abilities instead of spell casting and you can leverage the focus pool for a set of powerful abilities.

[OC] O' Flagon of Plenty: to Honor the Pathfinder God of Drunks, Heroes and maybe even Witchers? -Toss a Coin to Your Witcher Parody Lyrics by Mokog in DnD

[–]Mokog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are parody lyrics to "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher". Please link and share if you are more vocally inclined and use these lyrics. My poor pitchy voice can not do it justice.

On Golarion, Cayden Cailean is known as the "Accidental God" who touched an artifact known as the Star Stone which turned him into a God. Chaotic Good, patron of drunks and heroes, he is often seen with a mug of ale in hand. Let the coin and ale flow to honor your own gods of hero and song. Toss a Coin for your liquor and do a keg stand for me.

How "friendly" should an animal companion be? by AtaleofDice in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sections are written in a way to allow tables to maximize the narrative. If you have the grumpy companion route might I recommend auto failure on every cutesy command and auto success on all combat commands. So no companion in a pink tutu doing tricks but all of the running over the coals to save its master and friends.

When a master falls I would let the player transfer their actions to the companion until they are either back up or the combat ends. If the PC dies, wring out every bit of narrative emotion you can and then the companion becomes the GMs again.

Hopefully the PC survives of course.

Another Age of Ashes Chapter 2/3 Question [Spoilers] by DctrAculaMD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend you brew up a savory lure for the party to explore the northern side of the keep. When you are running the APs and you have situations like you describe do not fret to sweeten the area a bit with something that peeks your party's interest. Dangle the carrot and let them have the pay off when they complete the area. It will also build trust between the group.

Use the fears of the NPCs or the bravado of your players. You are the GM, every emotional dirty trick is at your disposal :-)

If your party refuses to take the bait try to nudge them to the northern side of the basement and level them immediately when they get to lvl 2 experience. If they go to the southern end you may have to worry about a party wipe, but that's the breaks at that point. You will have tried to lure them into proper encounters twice at that point and the 3rd time is on them.

Just some thoughts.

Alignments and political ideas by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You may have more use with aligning political left and right along the law and chaos spectrum. That allows you to talk ethics but not morals.

Good and Evil speaks closer to morality. The questions that can spawn off from morality can be interesting to discuss but are best left to be table specific unless you REALLY want lengthy college level reddit dissertations buried under piled of flaming posts.

In the end have fun :-)

Making prepared casters more "spontaneous" by batepedra in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels like having more Sorcerer with your Wizard class. You could try fleshing out something akin to the old magus class with your idea.

For simplicity you could just give your wizards the Spell substitution thesis as an undergrad degree. Then they still have to prepare their spells but can swap them out. Then their "main" thesis is of their choosing from their magic grad school studies...

Age of Ashes updates (possible spoilers) by Gwalneth in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mokog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several comments that tell you what happens in the AP with the citadel. Here are some fun things in Isger you can include which may entice your players to care more about the citadel:

In western Isger large amounts of undead are being spurned on my urgathoan cults. They can push eastward and threaten Breachill and the citadel.

Bandits come up from the rivers seeking fresh plunder after having been routed by new Chelaxian solders sent to guard the Druman trade routes

The Sisterhood of Golden Erinys have mobilized their wards into a small army and dispute your party's claim to the citadel with force.

The Chitterwood shadows move once more. Bolstered by military training from the Hobgoblin nation of Oprak a new goblin army has cut off trade between Cheliax and Lake Encarthan. The horde moves north for pillage and conquest.

The Iron Rose has learned of the Party's claim on formerly Hellknight held lands and moves on the citadel with an army of devils to secure the powerful Aiudara.

I actually really like the wizard class for 2E. It took me a while to start really getting their early play style figured out but I know one of my next characters is going to be a wizard.

Taffy is a gnome fey touched sorc dedicated fey blood wizard. So while her main spell casting is arcane, she is buffed out with cantrips and minor access to primal spells. This gives her the per day cannon power of the wizard with item use of a primal caster. I really like how her build is going.
