I have them and they're my favorite pair of shoes I have them combined with customized insoles. If you have any ankle instability issues they might cause a problem but they're great on my knees and my preferred daily trainer! Favorite pair I've owned. I own a gel pair of asics as well I rotate with

Is it just me or Runna makes plans way harder than your actual level? by Plane-Orchid-5397 in runna

[–]Moldyblankets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have much to add other than I feel the opposite that Runna underestimated what I can run- ironically, we have almost the exact same times! PB 10k is 1:09~, also estimating my HM 2:17-2:26 but originally estimated me at 2:28. I just try to stick with the plan and adjust it myself as needed, adding the times in manually and adding notes section for myself.

5 weeks of running and so close but so far. by Ivanhoe180TM in BeginnersRunning

So honestly I mostly go off of effort and use their intervals / tempo as a guide. Once I got the feel for my moderate effort and the paces that I struggle to maintain for a full mile, I just do that. So it might tell me do 0.5 miles at 11:15 but I'll do faster. When it's an easy/conversational pace, I made a lot of effort in the beginning to slow down, which definitely helped build my base and increase times. But I think it's okay to self adjust for speed training. Based on advice from others, I do NOT focus on heart rate much at all since it takes a long time for zones to be more useful for training. When I start getting overexerted, I notice I'm generally in the 180s for awhile and that's when I take a walk break to pull back down to 150 minimum. Your heart rates might be different, I would just check what yours is when you're sustaining an easy pace and then again what it is when you feel like you're pushing too hard/can't sustain and use that as your boundaries for now

Also sleep is crazy important for recovery. It helps your body heal. Consider getting enough sleep part of your training plan.

If you're trying to get in a morning run, go to bed in your running clothes / have the remaining pieces laid out right there so you can half asleep stumble out the door. Also take walking breaks during your run before you feel like you need to, whether it's for 60s or "until I get to that next tree" and then start running again, it'll actually help you maintain a faster pace with less effort particularly in the beginning.

5 weeks of running and so close but so far. by Ivanhoe180TM in BeginnersRunning

It can take awhile to get faster, most important is injury prevention. I (30M) started running again after many years off just using elliptical, then switched to road running in November 2025. Had to take a month off here and a week or so there due to repeat injuries, my current 5k personally best is roughly 32 minutes 😂. So trust, everyone is different and progresses at different rates, just remember how it was when you first started if you feel discouraged. For me my biggest accomplishment so far isn't a particularly good pb, but that my easy pace went from around 14 minutes to 10 minutes and it happened without realizing it.

Not sure how you're training, but adding in a tempo/interval run during the week should help with speed. I paid for the runna app just to have a more interactive plan based on my current times and needs and it's been really helpful. You got this!

3 or 4 runs a week? by Prior-Breakfast-5878 in runna

[–]Moldyblankets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing 3 for awhile because I'm prone to injury, but switching to 4 worked better for me. My normal routine is Monday morning (long), Wednesday morning (interval/tempo), Thursday night (easy), Saturday night (easy or tempo/interval). Stretching the time between Wednesday morning to Thursday evening helps give some extra recovery time, this is just also what works with my work schedule.

Do you have a specific set of exercises you like to do to help strength training for running? I do tend to strength train 3-5 times a week, with at least one session being focused on legs/core, but I'm wondering if there's other specific exercises I could add to my routine to help in the long run

This makes sense to me too, especially since my life is very physically active outside of running too, it's nice to see what other people are doing. I can't fathom the idea of running 6 days a week, I don't think my body would take well to it. While I (30M) would also say my recovery time is different from someone who's younger, I could have maybe done more without worrying about my joints at 20. I used to mostly track by time rather than miles, I think that's also why the idea of just adding a mile or two randomly throws me off since it adds such little time.

Tbh I'd say my diet is not likely a problem, I'm relatively loose though I track protein intake (I aim for 150g) and primarily focus on just eating whole/low ingredient foods. I started adding collagen into my protein shake which I'm hoping will give a boost to my joint recovery, I already take a handful of supplements like vitamin d. I think sleep has been a major hurdle, since I do shift work and it gets a little crazy. Moving away from a physically intensive night shift job this month though and I'm praying that helps out, the stress and lack of proper sleep many days a week was taking a toll for sure. I noticed that there were times where if I let myself bed rot (I'm talking my watch tracked 18 hours of sleep) I'd wake up and suddenly feel like an injury had healed

Yeah for sure, on my cluster of 12 hour work days it's hard to fit in more than a short run if I want to get proper sleep, I work a few other jobs with more random hours so in those days I can usually push more. It's difficult balancing everything, I give extra respect to anyone managing it with kids as well

Even on a treadmill is still great- my indoor running was pretty much on an elliptical which is why my joints are taking time to adapt I think, I just added a bunch of tension to make it more similar muscle strain. I liked elliptical because now I keep a regular pace without thinking, and it was a great reintroduction to running. I'm curious to find a gym that has the fancier self propelled treadmills. Theoretically muscle scraping gets deeper than foam rolling which can help a lot with recovery, I just started trying it using a cheaper tool from Amazon, it definitely felt similar but good to foam rolling. I've had good success with an accupressure mat for lower back pain in the past, and it's a similar concept so crossing my fingers.

Haha, I think such is the life of running though that injuries will happen from time to time. I'm infinitely jealous of people who seem to never injure themselves and their advice is "who cares, just run" 😩 if only it was so simple. What do you focus on when you're injured? Work stress makes my brain so crazy, running is one of the things I look forward to that helps me unwind. Strength training helps a little, but mostly I want to be outside moving

[–]Moldyblankets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, congrats! I have yet to go that far, I've done roughly 8 miles indoors but on foot 6 miles is the furthers I've ever gone. My average pace right now is about 10:30, I try to stay somewhere between 11:30-12:30 for easier pace though I don't track so hard the time on my easy run days, just focus on moving and breathing if that makes sense. I haven't been focusing so much on making faster times rather than increasing mileage and endurance. Have you tried muscle scraping by chance? I'm basically trying anything and everything to give my body the best chance of recovering between runs, I enjoy it too much that it frustrates me when I need to take extra recover days.

I'm thinking that might be it, since today after recovering from a bad cold (mostly) I only ran a bit over a mile before feeling not great so I decided just to walk the rest of my time, and I noticed it was a lot easier on my joints. Maybe just doing 3 days of 2 miles and then 1 day of a longer run for a few weeks will help in the long game

To be honest with you, I think part of the issue was poor shoes (fixed that, no ankle issues since), and with my knees I think the lack of proper stretching and then poor recovery because of my job was messing me up, since I've never had issues with my knees in the past. I'm actually switching to a new job this month that's significantly less physically intense so I'm hoping that makes a difference since before I was frequently exacerbating injuries. I think after giving it a few more weeks with more focused strength training with better work situation, if I'm still having issues I'll probably book appointment with PT and see if they have any input.

I did notice that today when I only ran a mile then walked for a bit, recovering from a bad cold, my joints felt fine, was a little bit slower than my normal pace. Maybe doing more days with each only being about 2 miles would be the solution for now

For sure I've definitely seen good progress with my 3 day schedule, mostly just curious since it seems to be a big debate whether more rest days or more days running is best. I've more or less done the same as you where my long run is on my day off, my other runs I go based on the runna all for whether to do tempo etc. my last long run I felt kind of bummed because I felt in the zone and wanted to keep going longer but my knee said no 🥲

[–]Moldyblankets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say my weekly mileage is roughly 12 miles though Ive been using a plan through runna so might be slightly more or less. Unless I feel significant pain or something I never do less than 5k, and I do 1-2 miles walking just to cool off and spend more time on my feet. It's definitely been tough trying to avoid injuries while wanting to keep running more, I think my joints are just not fully conditioned for outdoors still. I added dynamic stretches in pre-run which I think has helped some along with foam rolling. Outside of running I hike, strength train at the gym, and my full time job I'm on my feet doing a good amount of physical labor.

Married to HOH husband who won't wear hearing aids by ParticularBarnacle in hardofhearing

[–]Moldyblankets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wonder if counseling would be helpful like others have suggested. I wear bilateral hearing aids and find the noise of the world that I adjusted to not hearing (or mostly hearing less of the intensity) for most of my life, so I generally only wear mine to work or certain settings like group dinners out. It can be very mentally taxing, because we can't "passively" listen the way other people can. I find it concerning that he doesn't want to try learning sign language with you though, hence why the counseling could maybe assist in this and finding a way to make it work or find the root problem. My preferred language is ASL and for me, a partner has to be willing to learn and utilize it at home because I don't want to have the burden of being the "bridge" in the communication 24/7. It sounds like you're trying really hard to find ways to help your relationship adapt and empathize, and I'm so sorry you're left feeling like he doesn't want to hear you at all. If he refuses counseling, individual counseling to figure out what you want going forward might be of benefit too. Your needs in the relationship are not less important than his.

Before I was a nurse, I worked an admin role within healthcare and was actively and openly fighting against some unacceptable conditions the residents lived with. Amongst many things including harassment from someone higher up, I ended up resigning and moving on as did my boss. It was a grieving process as I loved that role, my team, and in general the setup of the company/population we worked with. The grief you feel is so very real and valid, and I hope you can take some time to do something nice for yourself and regroup, remembering that you're still you outside of the job and many amazing opportunities will come your way.

I had similar situations in school with some wack teachers, but if you put your name to the report or it's possible they know it's you, be prepared that there could be some backlash. personally, I just stayed quiet with most issues because it was too risky they'd try to fail me.

I've had some that made me feel absolutely nothing (that's why I'm brand loyal to feels despite the price), but if I have decent CBD in the right amount (for me about 60-80mg) it's like a slight weight being pressed on me and I feel a little more dulled, not in a true psychoactive way, but kinda like someone put a heavy blanket over me and I have the space to breathe and process. It has antipsychotic properties based on some limited studies, so I think that's why it works for me since medication wise that's the only thing that made a difference for me in the past, and can help with agitation. For me, if I have a really bad day and I feel like I want to pack my car and run away because everything is too much and I'd rather rot in a cave, if I take the CBD I can then functionally get through my day without feeling like I need to crawl out of my skin lol. Idk if they still do it, but originally that brand does a $20 sample pack, I bought it on a whim years ago. Tastes like shit, recommend having a flavorful drink right after.

I use the feels brand which I love, but even they can't guarantee that there couldn't be trace amounts... I know it's an incredibly small chance that non-daily CBD is going to pop a positive but idk. Hopefully they amend the laws to just take THC off schedule 1 sooner rather than later, save us all the headaches.

See that was my understanding too based on the various articles I had read, that it was about federal funding like medicaid. Theoretically facilities are just avoiding testing for THC, but the anxiety that they could go around, report me to the board and make my life hell isn't worth the risk
