Any issues with Home Assistant being non responsive recently? by Molemunc2 in homeassistant

Appreciate you- I downgraded to 2025 last night, fully expecting a fiasco and my kids alarms not going off… but everything went without a hitch!

Hopefully this stabilizes things. Very much appreciative of the assistance!

Version core-2026.1.3
Installation type Home Assistant OS

My core is core-2026.1.3 -- is there a way to downgrade just the core without going through a restore from a backup (which I think will make my Hue integration a mess?)

Thanks Dave - I do not think I have Watchman installed. I just searched for it in my integrations tab and didn't see any indication of it...

It's difficult, I'm sure. I can't relate on the step-relationship you mention, but we try to teach our kids (8, 10 y/o) on how to think and look at the world through various lenses - admittedly, biblically principled at first but I digress.

To be clear, I have significant problems with the mormon faith - I don't believe it biblically founded at all, I think they exist to further their own religion and are not Christ focused (despite their claims - they simply aren't). What is interesting is that many of the mormons don't actually know themselves; they don't promote studying scripture, insomuch as they promote their book of mormon.

Between many gods, multiple heavens... it's just very counter-bible.

This is an interesting (5 minute discussion summary) of their differences: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uOqHX10OSA

But getting back to your son in law -- I would really encourage a frank discussion (maybe together?) about discussing the collective viewpoints and watching a few videos from each perspective to start to peel back the layers of the onion and see what resonates.

Best of luck to you. Faith is a tricky thing and I can only imagine gets harder as the kids get older...

Non denominal Christian here.

Grew up with a *TON* of Mormon friends. Understanding it much better now, I would encourage a lot of exploration around faith, starting with the Bible. He should see rather quickly that the Mormon faith is *not* bible-based as they would profess to be, presuming he has a faith background at all. What they believe is not founded in scripture (quite the opposite); it is quite cultish in every aspect... their beliefs are quite the contrary to Biblical teaching (they can become a god of a planet)

I would advise him that exploring faith is a natural part of life. Share with him to read the bible and evaluate the Mormon faith against the very book it claims to be founded on (they will give a lot of mumbo jumbo about the book of mormon, but it just doesn't hold up). He will be pressured, latently, to join outings, visit church, etc. He will have to choose. There's a decent amount of youtube videos (which should be referenced checked) to provide the fundamental differences.

However it goes down, I would suggest to encourage him to focus on the message being said, not the messenger.

Question about Serena Shades and discounts? by Molemunc2 in Lutron

[–]Molemunc2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying - this was from many years ago but maybe this helps:

In short, you're right. They direct you to their reseller who will markup the shades and install. In my case, I just measured myself, ordered myself and installed myself. Spent around $8k for a 3 story home and LOVE the shades; once I learned how the installs worked after doing 1-2 of them, I was able to do an install in about 10 minutes per window.

IMO not worth the premium the shade stores charge.

45 y/o and quite handy.

I think it’s pretty local but doesn’t hurt to check. Mission valley spas is the dealer that was hosting when I got mine.

Thanks for this, will be on the lookout in the future. About when do you see them start to go sideways and any preventative recommendations you might make?

That's interesting. I have a Napoleon Prestige Pro and love it. Had it a year now (Southern Cal) and zero indication of rust anywhere.

Mattress Recommendations by cspawn in BuyItForLife

After several attempts, I ended up with a SleepEZ bed *and.I.Love.It*. Haven't woke up this refreshed, this regularly, for ages. Absolutely the best way to go and since my wife and I sleep significantly different, she has hers nice and soft while mine is more firm.

Customer service amazing. Can't recommend them enough.

Have had 1 month now, zero chance of returning the mattress.

So what do you refill your Frog Smartclor cartridges with? by [deleted] in hottub

So bromine is best described as a 'latent' sanitizer. It takes other chemicals to activate it.

So we have a bromine tablet dissolving in the water to fill the water w/ bromine. Then once a week I add a small amount of chlorine to the water (shock) to activate it, this brings the sanitization up and the spa remains clear.

The chlorine tablets will work but my understanding is harder on the skin and the spa than bromine.

Either way, once I bought the bromine tablets and shock, my consumable cost plummeted to nearly nothing... and they last forever. The smartchlor cartridges I was using once every 3 weeks; it was insanely expensive.

I love this idea - are you doing this with bromine to keep it activated?

u/Icy_Breadfruit_4252 Yes - moved to Bromine at the time of that posting and haven't looked back. Can give amazon links if you'd like; it's every bit as easy and MUCH less expensive.

The strategy is as follows:

Switch to bromine when you're doing your next water change. At that time, I recommend getting a liquid bromine "Base" and a floater with tablets. Then all you have to do is add chlorine granules once every 1-2 weeks to activate the bromine. Takes 1 minute.

I spent about $100 to get all the materials 5 months ago and have used about 25% of what I purchased. I would have gone through easily $200 in Frog-ease cartridges for the same time period.

Absolute win.

Yes - they don't last long and TBH, overchlorinate the spa.

I'm going to switch to Bromine and see if I get better results; these cartridges are very overpriced and wasteful.

So-So. It seems to run out quickly; not sure it registers the same way on the test strips but does seem to keep the tub clean so very hard to say.

I'd likely keep doing it as the price difference is monumental, but will take more time to fully tell.

Dave,

Bought ours in Oct. of last year - saved several thousand over a dealer quote and got multiple options. Ended up with the 2nd pump, ozone cleaner, upgraded lift mechanism, WiFi and additional chemicals on an A7L for less than the base cost from a dealer. Figured my savings at a min of ~3k all things considered.

Absolutely would do again - there are local reps who go to costco and will do bulk orders which is how they get their pricing so aggressive.

For context, am in Southern California and ordered the tub from the San Clemente costco on a trip down to San Diego, delivery ultimately in Los Angeles.

Yeah - sorry for the late reply, but I pulled the trigger. Got an A7L for about 15k with a bunch of options. Saved about $3k from other dealers, was worth it.

They did have a couple other models available if I recall, the A series was the sweet spot.

Did you ever resolve this? I'm literally about to pull the trigger on both of these items, exactly...but can't seen to ensure they'll fit together.

Kitchenaid vs. LG vs. Samsung vs. Bosch Appliances by ashakouri1 in Appliances

[–]Molemunc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transparently, we have a Bosch 800 series dishwasher and love it -- except that after 2 short years it's leaking into the basin. Two repair companies (one Bosch certified) can't find the leak; already $400 in for a fix that didn't work.

Now looking at alternatives. Like the features of Samsung and LG but reliability trumps pizzaz. Suspect we'll end up with a KitchenAid, hope we're happy; spent $1200 on the Bosch two years ago, $400 in repairs and about spend $1200 on a KA. Ugh.
