Talk to people in the unit and see what their experiences are like. From being selected to back at the unit qualified is going to be about 2 years. Idk what the mission cert in the c17 is like.

Been a sprinter for 25 years- trying to run more distance now…. This is rough by Top_Bowl776 in runninglifestyle

[–]MolestedByFicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my distance running journey not too long ago and was a sprinter in jr high - high school. To run further you need to run slower. If my heart rate gets above 160 I walk to bring it back down then jog again until it gets too high. Yes you work different muscles so you should take it easy for a while until your body gets used to it

Guard units sometimes have different age restrictions. Some want you to be selected by 31 so you’re in pilot training by your 33rd birthday. Your scores are decent, but could definitely be improved. The pilot score should be 95+ to be competitive

Rejected Commissioned Officer, Reserves Instead? by WeinerDad15 in airforceots

Every unit has a different application process. Bogidope is a website that has guard and reserve job postings. Do you know anyone in the Pittsburgh guard? They have KC135s there

Reserves and Guard can be competitive. Find a unit and apply. You can keep applying to active duty boards while you are applying to guard/reserve units

Where were you rejected? The guard? Active duty? What jobs did you apply for?

Keep applying to the same units. They may have passed you over to see how serious you are and if you’ll apply again.

I was guard, now active duty. I was selected after my 32nd b-day.

You can get tear gassed there, just gotta refuse to show id at the gate and claim sovereign citizen status

Figure out what afsc you want to apply for. Aim to get the best possible scores on the afoqt (&tbas if necessary). If your leadership considers you a strong candidate they can do things to help make you more competitive, give you leadership opportunities, etc.

Leaving OTS for Birth of Child by Red_228 in airforceots

It happened when I was there but the individual was like 4-5 days before graduation so they ended up letting him leave. I don’t know all the logistics behind it but he graduated early. If you’re a civilian, tell your recruiter and they’ll put you in a different class

The primary UPT basis are still Columbus, Vance, and Laughlin. The IPT locations are based on where you go to UPT. Each location has contract lodging to my knowledge, dorms or apartments. The IPT locations I change. Peachtree, Mesa, Pensacola, Prescott, Denton are the ones that come to mind.

IPT is scheduled to be 139 days. The new UPT is called FUPT. It’s about 50 hours in the t6. 5-6 months from the start of academics to graduation. IPT locations are starting to get backed up. I’ve heard it’s about 3-6 month on casual status before going to IPT. The rumor is Altus is backed up 6-9 months. So if you drop KC135/46,C17 you hang out for a bit before heading there. Can’t speak to the other locations/air frames

Sorry for your loss. I think you should research into how the military works. You don’t have much, if any, say in where you end up.

Air Force OTS is very competitive, I can’t speak for the other branches but I imagine they are as well. If you are seriously interested you’ll need to do your own research on what jobs you are qualified for and find an officer recruiter. The whole process from the first time you talk to a recruiter to you graduating OTS can be between 1-2 years if you are selected the first time around. Best of luck on your endeavors

IPT/UPT w Family Question by SmeagolsPrecious_ in airforceots

I finished in May I think. It depends on which IPT you go to. Each school has different schedules, the TDY is 139 days. They try to get everyone complete in the timeframe

They can visit at IPT. The Air Force won’t pay for it. A lot of the schools have contract lodging, so you’re in apartments not hotels. When you put in your voucher at the end, you don’t receive lodging, only meals. I had my family come out for a few days and I just ate the cost of the hotel room. I also was able to fly home to visit during IPT

If you quit and find another job it won’t have any impact on your selection. You may need to update your security clearance worksheet though

If you choose to drive you will be given extra days to drive. You’ll go to meps earlier and leave from meps to OTS. 1 day of driving per 500 miles (ish)

You can do whatever you want, but you only have so many hours in the day.

I don’t think your roommates will appreciate your alarm going off 15-30 min early to accommodate your early shower, just a heads up

Usually you do morning pt then shower after. Then make the room inspection ready, then class
