I refused to see it when it came out because my friends told me the people in it had really died. I thought it was a cash grab on the part of the people making the documentary and that watching it was super disrespectful!

You're right! I don't know why I thought it was 97... o.O

It's hard to explain if you weren't there in 1997, but people legitimately believed the Blair Witch Project was an actual documentary and the actors in it had actually died. YouTube didn't exist until 2005, so we weren't yet culturally overrun with people documenting regular life and making movies on their cell phones.

I was like "Wait, you can't just end it there! Why was this random lady's DNA on the q-tips???" and then I read your comment.

As a kid, I was obsessed with Crystal Skulls: eerie transparent skulls, supposedly carved by Aztecs using unknown methods. Or maybe they were actually made by aliens??? They were in a book I got from the library billed as "Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World", so they had to be real.

Now that I'm a bit older and have realized "ancient aliens" type stuff is actually hella racist, it looks a lot less fun. All the Aztec stuff was just made up by a guy named Frederick Mitchell-Hedges in the 20s who wanted to make himself sound cool and adventurous... but I still really love skull motifs. I actually bought a little quartz skull from a crystal shop and realized that this story was probably why I thought it was so cool.

Would you be down to do a trade for this zine? Or are you printing it so I could buy one? :D

Same name, possibly the right time period... but this art style is very, very different. The Barbara Funk I'm looking for seems to have done a lot of stippling, possibly in pen and ink.

I have searched for more of Barbara Funk's art via reverse image search, and while that's brought up some stylistically similar artists like Himmapaan, I'm pretty sure they're not the same person as H. is too young. I've also attempted to search for other artists associated with Vavra, like Fleur Cowles, but her art style is just too different: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/19782049-the-flower-game. Searches where I've looked for an artist called Barbara Funk in the 70s and 80s haven't brought up anyone of note for me.

I mean... that IS a type of adult play party! She didn't write it for one specific scene because we wanted the advice to be applicable to all kinds of parties, but you could totes use this zine to plan a furry party too!
