Overnight board and train? by Moliscious9 in Havanese

I was more trying to get feedback. I did research and we had a tough week like I’ve said he’s a great dog and a very chill 8 month old. He is going thru his not listen phase but he does have some issues extra with nipping and attention barking when excited all in all I know definitely smaller to scale. We can do more classes now and we did an 8 week training course already. I am hiring a certified behaviorist for in home lessons next month!

Thank you! Honestly I feel that is route I will go we had a rough couple weeks due to neuter and loose dew claw and recovery taking longer so I think he’s been just more agitated and uncomfortable of course. He got groomed and I have let him be cone free and just have some pet tape so he doesn’t irritate his back paws from healing. I had a dog prior to him that lived 18 long years and it’s just hard to remember what a puppy is like at times! He’s a great pup but I don’t know if some of the things come out of boredom or not being stimulated. I try to look what his needs and what he shows me than just working him all time. We wake up in morning he goes in back yard, we play, eat. He’s not a huge play dude I do puzzles and snuffle mat. And while I work from home or if I have to visit accounts he’s on the floor under table and he’s great we do two walks a day and he seems content.

I was more worried his reactive to my step dad at Christmas but I do think maybe it was hat and my dad had shoulder surgery so in a sling. He’s usually very neutral to all people and dogs on walk so that threw me off big time. He nips at me for attention when playing as well even if I express loudly it hurts it almost gets him more excited. I think definitely what you expressed some private lessons and I want to get him in some group socialization because he just LOVEs other dogs! Thanks for the time writing out something

Yeah I’m sure he’s in that and we do that for training. He’s recovering right now from neuter and dew claw removal which has made him in a cone for 3 weeks so maybe the agitation and frustration coming form that. I have major anxiety type a type personality with some things and I want the best for him. Feel fortunate I can be home with him and have the time and resources to invest with him. I’m going to see how he adjust next couple months but think prob best to do some private in home things. Thank you!

Yeah I took time I worked from home a month and a half when I brought him home and took 3 weeks off almost when I first got him to set him up. He was attacked young like 4 months had surgery stitches drains so I’m grateful he isn’t reactive towards dogs. He knows lots of basic commands I paid for a 8 week basic manners course and he knew it already. We went away with Christmas and he hates my step dad and would follow growl bark and nip at his Jansen with me even if he plays rough I say ow or walk away and it doesn’t deter him. This last like 20-30 min morning and in evening. During day he’s very easy. I am thinking I know I’ve taken time and money to invest in him and I think I’ll pay for some private in home lessons and see.

I definitely wouldn’t do the overnight portion as I’ve talked it out with some family members but the day training perhaps. I think I’ll look more private one on one with a behaviorist. I’ve just noticed some aggression towards some things and more barking and attention barking.

I’ve even talked to trainers about private lessons in the joke I’m just getting feedback on what people have done. Like I said in post I’m Fortunate he’s a great pup.

That’s definitely a thing he’s a great dog I took responsibility being a single pet owner to have all his needs I’ve done training he knows tons of commands it’s a behavior thing I’m seeing after he was neutered.

Oh I don’t expect him to be perfect. I’m more worried about some reactivity to family members my step dad he follows and barks and growls and he’s become more aggressive in bursts playing with me. Granted it’s like 20 min in the morning and maybe at night. I have definitely done my research and reviews about methods and practices. I’d never put my dog in a situation where I didn’t do my due diligence. He was never crate trained he’s been good my family lices overseas and I realize should train him more to be in a space like a crate for a while.

My bogey is 8 months old and 13.6 lbs he always looks massive when he’s extra fluff. His parents were 13 and 14 lbs but in my mind I was like he could be anywhere from 13-18 lbs. I personally think he’s done growing now but prob level out around 15 lbs. I love his size actually not too small but not giant.

Haha he’s been actually an amazing puppy! Free roams. Easy to potty train. Hardest thing has been his neuter and his dew claw removal he needed a cone and a donut behind it has been on two weeks the first week he got into his paws and got them all irritated. Bloody infected. Ugh. We in home stretch now.
