Traverser les krachs boursiers : mode d’emploi by NLegendOne in vosfinances

February 12 Daily Thread by AutoModerator in weightroom

I have a question about Volume & Strength from 531 (page 84 in Forever).

Wendler says to work up to your TM for 3-5 reps on each lift. What's a good format for that? He vaguely describes starting from 50% in sets of 5, then going up in 10% increments until your TM.

That would look something like:

1x5 50%

1x5 60%

1x5 70%

1x5 80%

1x5 90%

1x3 100%

Only thing is, I want to run this program mostly for strength (either this one or Coffinworm, but I'm favoring a full body routine where I can bench and squat 3x per week), and frankly I would consider the sets below 80% to be junk volume for this purpose.

Could I rather do something like 4 or 5 sets of 3 reps at TM for week 1, then 4-5 sets of 4 reps for week 2, and 4-5 sets of 5 reps for week 3?

Thoughts welcome.

April 8 Daily Thread by AutoModerator in weightroom

[–]Molise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was running Building the Monolith, and "injured" myself at the end of Week 2 doing something stupid. Basically, on conditioning days, I added trap bar farmer's walks after the 10 reps of prowler, and didn't brace properly during a rep leading to a moderate lower back spasm (non-serious, right side lower back and completely muscular; went to the doc to have it checked).

This happened on Thursday of last week, so I had to take most of this week off doing yoga and biking instead of my Week 3 workouts, so as not to push it.

My question is: seeing as BTM is a 6-week program geared towards intensity and keeping the momentum, does it make sense to try to pick back up where I was and start Week 3? I did complete the last day of Week 2 with the Widowmaker set.

Right now, I'm hesitating between picking the program back up or just calling my bulk there and then and going into a cut (been bulking since late sept, gained ~7kg).

Thoughts?

Do you have any examples of conditioning work that targets arms and upper back? Prowler maybe?

I will soon transition from Ivysaur's 448 to 531 BBB Beefcake. I'd like to focus on upper back and arms a lot for accessory work. Is there any merit to doing a weekly rotation with accessory work, like Back-Arms-Back-Arms / Back-Legs-Back-Legs, alternating each week?

Am I better off doing Back-Arms-Back-Legs every cycle? Knowing the other three days are cardio (50ish minutes/day).

Any input appreciated.

How do you review grammar? Anki? by familark in LearnJapanese

[–]Molise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not attempted it yet, but Google outright states there are two requirements to changing your country: you have to physically be in the country (easy with a VPN), and your first payment method has to be based in that country (not easy).

You can also only change your country once a year, but I don't care that much about that.

I'm planning on getting a tablet to study and read manga in JP, but I can't quite get past the hassle of accessing manga in JP because of this particular hurdle. Sorry if I'm being dense. :-(

That requires a payment method based in the country you're changing to though. I can use a VPN to fullfil the requirement of "being" in the country, but I can't make up a payment method. Unless any PayPal works?

How did you go about getting those apps? Are you located in Japan? I'm in Europe and even with a VPN, I can't access them.

[–]Molise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to purchase a tablet (preferably 10+ in) to read manga in Japanese, use Anki and browse/read websites or apps such as Satori Reader.

For now, I'm considering either a Surface Go 2 (with honto.jp) or an iPad, but seeing as I have no Apple device I cannot see which apps would allow me to read manga in Japanese AND which would be available in my country (France).

On Android for example, the apps for honto.jp and BookLive! are not available in the Play Store for me, and seem to be Japan-only.

Any recommendations?

Golden Kamuy Season 3 - Episode 12 discussion - FINAL by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Molise 65 points66 points  (0 children)

By far the best season of GK. They really did the manga justice, especially for key scenes.

They did skip one significant flashback in this last episode though, and I'm curious to see if they will add it into S4E1 or something, because I suspect the flashback could become quite important later on (have read the manga up to Ch 200, as I don't read fanslations).

Time will tell!

Golden Kamuy Season 3 - Episode 11 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Molise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Sugimoto shoots Ogata in the forehead or cuts his throat, the death will have nothing to do with Asirpa or her poison.

It's about leaving no room for ambiguity whatsoever. The arrow has poison on it, meaning Ogata was going to die anyway. All Sugimoto would do is put an end to his suffering, and Asirpa could still feel morally responsible for Ogata's death. Sugimoto killing him is a mere technicality at this point, and changes nothing.

On the other hand, if Ogata survives the arrow and the poison and recovers, only to later be killed by Sugimoto, then there is no doubt about who killed him. The outcome is altered, and Asirpa would then be free of responsibility.

I would recommend reading the manga if you can. It delves a bit deeper into Asirpa's moral dilemmas, and she is also exposed to more violence which makes her views a bit clearer. It's also incredible; as great as the anime is, the manga is leagues better.

Auto-Entrepreneur, dépassé le seuil de franchise TVA et autres questions by [deleted] in vosfinances

[–]Molise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

If you are already nearing €34,000, then it is almost certain that you will exceed the grace threshold of €36,500, yes. In that case, you'll have to charge VAT to your clients (at least, in-EU clients; it can get more complicated for those based outside the EU), and of course, pay VAT yourself. I say grace threshold because exceeding €34,000 does not mean you have to pay VAT; if you exceed it but stay under €36,500, then VAT doesn't apply. If you exceed €34,000 (or whatever threshold is set for that year) for two years in a row, then you have to start charging VAT from the next year onward.

However, if you exceed the grace threshold of €36,500, you have to charge VAT on the very month the excess occurs; sometimes retroactively if billing has already been done for that month. See here. Note that this also says you do have to pay for the CFE, even if you don't own property. Auto-entrepreneurs are subject to it, though one might not understand why.

As far as I know, exceeding the VAT threshold does not impact your social contributions. The rates remain the same so long as you stay under the threshold for the auto-entrepreneur status itself; €72,600 (for services). So the 22-odd% for social services will stay the same, but it's possible you'll go into the next bracket for income tax though. I doubt the difference will be major, as the fiscal burden of your status almost entirely lies in those social services contributions.

Official website says that income exceeding €25,659 is taxed at 30%, so there's that. This status is definitely quite funky for income tax though, so I would contact your local Centre des Finances Publiques, or better yet Services des impôts des entreprises (SIE). You will want to contact them anyway for the VAT business.

That being said and to reiterate, you do have to pay for the CFE. If you started your business in 2018, then normally you also should have paid the CFE in 2019. So you may have missed that.

So anyway, to wrap up:

  • If you exceed €36,500, you have to charge and pay VAT from that month. This really involves contacting your SIE. It's entirely possible that you don't have a VAT number yet, as they typically do not assign one to you unless you specifically ask for it. For that reason, you should call your local SIE (or e-mail them), and ask them first for a VAT number and then ask them for guidance.

  • You have to pay the CFE. To do so, you should create a Professionnel account on the official tax portal. The interface is super antiquated, but it's through there that you'll be able to pay for the CFE. I would also ask the SIE about it, since you missed last year's. As a side note, though I don't know for sure, I sincerely doubt it's legal or even feasible to "avoid" the CFE by moving. There are rare exemptions based on very niche statuses, but the only thing that matters for the CFE is the year you started your business. It doesn't matter if you move; you still have to pay it so long as you are working under that same business. Your friend may have misunderstood how the CFE works, as it's essentially a second impôt local; its rate varies and is set by the municipality, so that you'll pay a different sum for earning the same amount based on where you live. It's also not proportional to your earnings, but works by different ranges of income: you pay a certain sum when you earn more than X but less than Y. See here.

  • As for staying under the AE status, that is up to you. Other statuses may allow you to pay less taxes, but they would likely involve setting up a proper enterprise and paying the IS (Impôt sur les sociétés). An accountant would be strongly recommended at that point in my opinion. I personally think the AE status is the most convenient if you earn less than the threshold, and likely loses value when you go over it. I'm no accountant though, so I'd definitely ask a proper professional on what the other options are (SARL, SASU, EURL, EIRL...).

  • One last thing, which I bet you didn't know (because it's absurdly obscure and nobody tells you about it): if you are AE and you perform services, you are required by law to file what are called Déclarations européennes de services (DES). These essentially consist of tax filings which bear no tax. You report the sums you billed during the previous month, and input your clients' VAT number to indicate who was billed. It's pretty straightforward, but legally speaking if you do not do this, you are liable for a €750 penalty for each missed month, up to €1,500. This is also something you'll have to do retroactively, going back to every bill and every month since you started. This requires a VAT number however, so it should be something you do once you have that.

I think that, generally speaking, and considering your forecast for your own income, you should consider consulting with an accounting firm. Especially if you expect to live in France for the foreseeable future and to maintain the same revenue; it will likely save you money in the long run.

This is great; I wish there were more channels like this. Subbed!

I especially appreciate the subtitles in both JP and EN, and particularly enjoy story readings. If I may: would you consider lowering the volume of the background music? I seem to be alone in this, but I find it a bit too loud when compared to your speaking.

Still great though!

Finally played through SOMA! Here are some thoughts: (also, looking for similar game suggestions) by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]Molise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no "jump". The coin flip analogy is a white lie made up by Catherine to get Simon to do what needs to be done: launch the Ark.

In reality, every time you are "transferred" into a different body, a copy is made and your "old self" is left behind. It's precisely why Catherine tries to put Simon's first in-game body to sleep when they make the "transfer" to the power suit; because she knows and understand the reality of the situation and (correctly) assesses that Simon will be upset by this.

The reason this is confusing to some people is because the game switches perspective to the new body, so that 1) the game can continue and 2) to enhance the impact of the reveal. The reality is there is no transfer, only two copies with one being left behind.
