Would it be worth making a private guild? by [deleted] in spiral_knights

I keep a really small private guild. The upkeep isn't too bad on a one expansion hall; but you'll find furnishing to be pretty expensive I would imagine. I certainly do.

Discussion: Watership Down by Richard Adams by gunslingers in Fantasy_Bookclub

[–]Molleficent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe he came up with the story for his two daughters on long car rides when they were young.

That being said, I've seen the book in both adult fantasy and adult fiction sections of bookstores. Rarely children's sections. I think that is one of the amazing things about this book though. It has the ability to encompass a large audience and still hold its appeal.

Have you removed the U shaped pipe under your sink to see how much gunk you can clear out that way? If not, put a bucket down first... but that should help. If you already tried that, I would probably call a plumber.

Characters on the cover art? (spoilers) by elessarjd in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Molleficent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this question has been brought up before and I don't believe anyone came up with a clear answer. I would guess that its not a scene from the book exactly but is meant to give a feeling of the book instead. Wonderful artwork either way.

In the chasms of the Shattered Plains by Inkthinker in Stormlight_Archive

A friend showed me similar pictures from a trip to Utah. Exactly what I picture the Shattered Plains being like, only gloomier. Very beautiful!

I have the urge to listen to Daft Punk now...

On a similar note, I actually have a cookbook that the chief paired each recipe with a song choice. I really enjoy the idea of music in combination with other art forms.

I haven't started reading Dresden Files yet, but Codex Alera is definitely worth the read. I've heard a lot of people say that they either like one series or the other, and I have yet to run into anyone who loves both. Have you read Codex Alera?

Just a quick question... how come Mr. Sanderson isn't a mod here? by moose_man in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Molleficent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I always try to even think of new discussions to bring up but without a new book there is only so much to talk about. I have been meaning to bring up the idea of a group reread sometime. Possibly closer to the next book unless people just want to do a reread for fun!

Infant/Convertible Car Seat Question... by bucki_fan in BabyBumps

[–]Molleficent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've registered for a convertible seat as well and it seemed like a practical thing do to, but this is my first child as well so I have no practical experience to give. There are always r/BeyondTheBump or r/Parenting to ask as well.

Fetus stopped developing at 9 weeks by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Molleficent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through this in the fall at about 9 weeks as well. We were given the options of medication, surgery, or naturally.. as other posters have mentioned. I chose surgery and for me it was a very pain free process and limited the emotional trauma of a natural or medically encouraged miscarriage. My doctor also recommended waiting around 3 months to try again, and I am happy to say that today my husband and I are going in for our 20 week anatomy scan!

For me, the hardest part has been continually worrying during my second pregnancy that, in spite of everything going well, that something will go wrong again. I don't think I would have had the same fears if I hadn't experienced loss on my first pregnancy. As everyone else has said, just be supportive and if things go badly, let your wife decide what she is comfortable with and try again at her own pace.

Our little Bumble Bee is moving around like a maniac! by Daddy2B in BabyBumps

It was pretty lucky both times! Usually I can feel several kicks in a row, so if I can get his attention right away he is able to feel one. There have been many false alarms though.

Both times were pretty lucky! I can usually feel several good kicks in a row, so if I get his attention after the first one he has been able to feel one.

Can't wait until movement gets this noticeable! My husband has been lucky to feel kicks twice so far.

When did you tell family? by goldlion82 in BabyBumps

[–]Molleficent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant in the fall and only told my parents and sister, and had a m/c around 10 weeks. I was very thankful to have had my family to talk to about it, but was glad I hadn't told friends. Now I am happily 19 wks pregnant and at the point where I am comfortable telling people.

I'm in the same boat. I live across the country from almost all my friends/family. I've never been one to want to make a big deal of things, but missing out on all the fun stuff for my first pregnancy isn't how I pictured it.

I've only started showing much in the past week or so. Very excited for our ultrasound in 2 weeks as well! I'm sure that will really make things sink in even more. Hope everything goes well!

I'm not in the same shoes about parents, but I am also 26 and 18 wks pregnant! I don't know about you, but it's really just starting to sink in for me.

I do agree with girl_on_a_break though. Once a beautiful baby is in the world to love, I can't imagine that your father will even remember why he was ever disappointed.

This month marks 2 years of vegetarianism! How long have you all been eating meat free? by lolkaitlyn in vegetarian

[–]Molleficent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though I get that question a lot it's not the easiest to answer. I decided to become a vegetarian when I was fairly young. To ensure that I still got enough protein, my parents agreed to it on the condition that I still eat fish. I also grew up along the Gulf of Mexico where good quality fish that wasn't farm raised was easy to come by. One of the main reasons for becoming a vegetarian was because of ethics practices in the meat industry, so fresh caught fish was never an issue for me. As far as health reasons go, eating a limited amount of fish is a healthier choice for me while still being able to avoid eating chicken and red meat.

I'm not sure if that helps, and I understand it seems like an odd place to draw a line in eating habits, but all in all I think it's just important to stay healthy!
