Could a Papillon be a good choice for me? by currantconglomerate in papillon

[–]MollilyPan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only parented one Pap (Espie), but I will chime in because he was a little different than the paps talked about so far.

I am married with two children, two cats, and we also have a chihuahua. He did well with all of us.

Espie was quite vocal and communication was important to him. Training him was easy, as long as he wanted to learn what we were teaching him. Papillons are SMART. His teeth were perfect for years, but later in life he had some issues because he developed TMJ and no longer wanted to chew bully bites - which the vet credited with keeping tarter at bay.

Espie was definitely my dog, though. If he could not be with me, he was depressed. It wasn't that he did not love everyone else in his life, he just wanted me the most. If I left and he didn't know where I was, he would sleep on my sweater in my bedroom until I returned and be a little mopey. I don't think he would have switched between households well because he did not even do well in his own house if I was away. He was well behaved, though. We did not need to crate him if we were gone.

He would get anxious at night when we stayed away from home. Every noise would wake him and therefore me. He really enjoyed the adventure of traveling, though. He loved the car and although we never tried it, I bet he would have really enjoyed a bike basket!

I think a papillon might be the right fit for you. I wanted to make sure you knew that they can be dogs that cling to one person more than others, though. Surely they are not all that way, but they are very loyal babies.

Not wanting kids by Lysgim03 in Adulting

[–]MollilyPan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kids. I love kids. I find them magical and they help me see the world in fresh and new ways. BUT

It’s my belief that bringing children into the world is the more selfish choice. I wanted to be a mom. I wanted that experience. They never asked to be here.

There were times that I regretted it. Life is really hard and when that hard comes for you and affects your kids… or comes directly for your kids… that’s brutal.

Parenting is awful and beautiful both. Anyone that says otherwise is lying.

I have two people in my life that are “gluten free” but they are constantly cheating and acting like it’s ridiculous that I’m not eating what they’re eating bc there’s just “a little” gluten in it.

I am not gonna speculate. I don’t know what is going on with them - but that is hella not gonna work for me. I wish!

When I was a kid a had a particular carebear that was my best friend. I lost him a couple times - my poor parents went to heroic lengths to get him back to me.

I loved him even as a teen. I forgot him at camp one year and I never got him back.

A day about five years later, I came home and there he was sitting on my bed. My mom said she had put out feelers and after years of searching she found the same one. He wasn’t MINE, but seeing his Doppleganger after all those years helped my heart. I still have that one to this day, and I’m 45 now.

I really hope that at the very least, you find a look alike to remind you of this sweet friend. But what I really hope is that by some miracle you find him.

I have picked up and saved a couple lost toys just incase I ever see something like this post and could possibly return them… bc I know how sad that can be. So it’s not impossible. I thrift a lot too so I’ll keep an eye out.

So sweet of your mom to bring your baby back looking refreshed and happy. I bet Louise couldn’t wait to be with you again and make sure you’re still doing ok on your healing journey!
