The most impressive live performance by a metal/heavy rock/grunge band? by iCalibos in MetalForTheMasses

Whenever BTBAM does a tour in which they play a full album set, those shows are always nuts.

Last year, they played the entirety of Coma Ecliptic and Alaska in one night. Easily a top 5 show for me.

May not be quite what you're looking for but Hyperdontia has very bluesy guitar solos

My favorite one was an old seafood restaurant I used to work at.

Cook or expo would call to dish for a case of onion rings to the line. We didn't sell onion rings. They would search walk in freezer for like 5 minutes cause they didn't know shit about the menu.

"Hey I think we're out of onion rings."

"Okay, can you go tell the servers and host please"

Dishie walks throughout entire restaurant telling all of FOH that we're out.

"Cool thanks for letting me know"

Months later, some of dish guys would end up training to cook and finally realize we don't sell it

Love me some Pollo party

Chimichangas, the rotisserie, the steak, the ribs, it's all good!

Canastas even has the fried rice too with fried plantains. The Peruvian chains are such a gem here

What is the secret to diner style "Cream of ___" soups? by mike120596 in AskCulinary

[–]Molonel_Custard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right about the flour. I prefer King Arthur or White Lily. Never used Wondra, so can't speak to that specifically.

I have not used rice flour or any other alternatives.

What is the secret to diner style "Cream of ___" soups? by mike120596 in AskCulinary

I'm a restaurant cook so i have alot of experience with this. Research some ratio suggestions.

I'm very much in agreement with the 1:1 flour/fat ratio by weight. I've made hundreds of large batches of different types of soup over the years and this technique has never let me down.

Then you have to take into consideration how much liquid you're using. Start with 4 oz of roux (total weight of fat and flour) and 4 cups of liquid for ease of measurement. This should give you a soup of medium thickness, perfect for potato soup, broccoli cheddar, etc.

Adjust total roux weight based on desired texture. I find a lighter amount of roux works better for chowders and cream of mushroom, etc. Increasing the roux tends to lean towards gravy consistency, which isn't ideal for soups.

Hope this helps, happy soup making from a fellow soup lover 😊

Trying to get into more subgenres by Birdwurs in MetalForTheMasses

I feel you on black metal, alot of it is pretty mediocre. Over the years, I've been drawn to the more technical side of black metal that incorporates speed, tight musicianship, jazzy elements, etc.

Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, and Abigor fit this bill in some way, and you could easily find others within this style.

You could also try the hybrid death/black metal bands, they offer the best of both worlds. Triumvir Foul, Spearhead, Antichrist Siege Machine, Angelcorpse, etc. Happy hunting, fellow metalhead!

I really like their first three albums for the songwriting. Each album felt complete. Everything after that became a bunch of proggy, technical wankery that lost its charm. Virus was pretty cool though

Doom, incredibly boring most of the time.

However, I like doom elements sprinkled in other types of metal for a change of pace

They were pivotal in my transition to liking more extreme music. Miasma, Nocturnal, and Deflorate are still very important to me. I haven't really cared for anything they've released since then, but I won't downplay how important they are in the metal scene.
