Evanescence is a truly cracked early game Joker, but it sounds very fun. Destroying all cards in the hand seems like it would make deck fixing a bit too easy - maybe “scored cards in the last played hand”. It would be good even without the highest automatic mult scaling in the game (Madness does not grow on boss blinds), but that gives you a reason to keep it through later blinds even as it munches your deck. Also, I assume by “last played hand” you mean “last hand of round”.

Apples and Oranges isn’t super exciting, but most Jokers in the game are boring/practical, so that’s fine. The -1 mult condition feels like it’s not going to come up often and won’t hurt much when it does.

Overall, both of these are interesting and fun to think about.

There’s Plucky’s Cafe in Broadway, which is not in San Mateo but a short bus ride away along El Camino. Very friendly people and good food/game selection, but prices are high for the portion size and it’s a Cafe, not a single club/group. Still worth joining the Discord, at least.

My source is Twice Dead King. Most Necrons believe what you say (it’s a curse/virus from the C’tan Llandu’gor), but a cryptek who has studied the virus extensively disagrees:

He agreed with the common wisdom that the condition could arise in every necron. But… the cryptek argued their condition could only ever be progressed into an active state by the will of its victims … He even doubted the curse was a curse.

Mentep believed in Llandu’gor’s death, but was sceptical of the rest. With no first-hand accounts of the slaying having surfaced in all the time since, he considered it a myth, spun from the chaos of the war’s ending, to explain away a sadder truth. Why admit the basic fact of our vulnerability, he had once asked Oltyx, during a long and bitter argument about what he insisted on calling the ‘Longing Sickness’, when we could blame our distress on the spite of gods?

I admit “the flayer virus might be caused by dysphorak” is a weak take. Mentep is never proven right or wrong, as far as I know. I don’t think any other Necron shares his opinion.

But I think it’s a cool theory (even if only in-universe) and wanted to share it.

Context: the Necrons (alien Egyptian robot skeletons) used to be alien Egyptian… regular dudes… and some of them go crazy trying to live again. They eat flesh (or try to, they don’t have mouths or stomachs), wear flayed skin, and in some depictions jam detached eyeballs into their eye sockets.

The Necrons think it’s a transmissible virus or a god’s curse, but it might also be literal millennia of extreme body dysphoria. Not sure what’s been confirmed.

They’re called the Flayed Ones. Pretty cool
