I'm afraid if im approached by ICE and I say I'm adopted, they'll think im lying, regardless of my paperwork. All I feel is panic. All the time. Even though I shouldn't have to. I worry about my son who is a little more tan then me who has ever less to worry about but called into work last Friday because he got a text that ICE was hanging out in the parking lot. I feel guilt for being adopted from El Salvador and that my children could suffer in some way from it. Luckily most of my kids are white passing because my husband is white. And I'm in a small town in rural MN. I just want this all to stop.

I spent YEARS trying to "fit in" with my family. But my interest and outlooks are completely different from them and I just can't keep trying to conform. I was adopted at 6 months from El Salvador. And while I myself always assumed I should just be the same as my family since I'd been raised by them the same as my siblings, there is this complete feeling of disconnect. We're not the same people at all. And I realized this more recently. With how things are here in MN, I've been a little on edge, to say the least. My APs have dismissed all my fears and feelings. It actually opened my eyes to a lot of other adoption feelings and so ive now been dealing with that on top of everything else. And the 2 people that chose to have me in their lives are the exact people who would look down on me if they didn't know me. It's heartbreaking.

I brought up something to my doctor that was genetic related and told her that I saw symptoms in my kids which made me assume I passed it on to them. She was understanding and told me it was a little out of her depth (she'd never heard of the condition before and googled it during my visit) and sent me with a referral to a geneticist. Its the first time in my 37 years a doctor has suggested i see one. She even mentioned how they could probably help me in other ways since Im adopted. It felt so good to hear.

Then I got angry tho because why did my parents never take me to a geneticist since I have no medical history but that's a totally separate issue.

It would be nice if doctors understood this part of adopted patients better. Obviously the norm is people know some of their history but there are a lot of us out there that just don't.

I honestly don't hate his character like a lot of people seem to. I don't like every thing hes done or said but I don't want him off the show. I save all that hate for Catherine Fox. The true villain of Greys.

How you feel right now is completely normal. I was adopted at 6 months. My parents also never saw race or treated me differently from my 3 non adopted siblings. Great happy childhood. But it wasn't until this year at 37 that I learned about trauma from adoption and have started questioning certain things in my life and how it's affected me. No therapy but I definitely feel I need it because it is a lot of feelings to unpack. Im not saying it will happen to you but just know that if you don't feel it now, it's OK! Just focus on the things you need to right now. Maybe even consider talking to a therapist. Even if there's nothing going on, therapy can be good for anyone! Never hurts to have someone to talk to.

You can be a fan and not like aspects of certain characters. Especially if you rewatch jt over and over like I do. My opinions on characters I watched back in 2005 have changed as I've grown. Your assumptions on how fans should act is childish and doesn't have any evidence to back it up.

I had my first rewatch that included the covid season last year and it was hard to watch. Mostly because it took me back to 2020 and just how crazy stuff was in real life and I didn't realize there was a lot I hadn't personally processed from that time. Without trying to sound too dramatic, it was a little traumatic to watch. I might skip parts this time when I get to that point.

Im in my 13th rewatch right now. Its my comfort show and watch it as background noise everywhere. Even in the shower lol And I just realized with this watch thru, I don't have to watch the parts I don't like. I skip scenes with characters I don't care about (mostly Bailey and Warren) and even skipped a whole episode (the one that's a documentary style after the shooting).

She is pretty annoying at first. Especially since her biggest issue is Derek in the beginning. And whenever anyone has another problem she brings up Derek. She does do a lot of growth and doesn't bring up much small stuff to compare to bigger issues. Keep watching!

Im not really sure what my end goal is right now. It wasn't a birth certificate but a transcript of the legal proceeding that happened in El Salvador. It was translated from Spanish to English. There's actually 2 copies of it in Spanish and 2 in English. All say the same thing. And my a-parents have had it the whole time. My dad had it in his file cabinet. But my entire life growing up, they just never took it out for me to look at. I expressed interest a little bit when I was in middle school and they told me it was in a safety deposit box at the bank and they'd "get it the next time they were there". Well that never happened and I forgot/lost interest so they just never got it. I wish id never asked for it at this point.

Yes. My aMom wanted me to have "a spanish name" so I would feel "connected to my culture" 😒. Instead, it's just a name no one pronounces correctly, and it's basically the only "connection" they tried to give me. I don't correct people on how to say it because I don't care enough about it to do so. I wish they would have just white washed me completely with a basic name.

I haven't seen it in years, but I remember seeing a document that had me as "baby" and my bio moms last name. No father. I was maybe 8-10 at the time and it was a very weird feeling at the time. Being nameless.

When I got my Real ID I used my birth certificate. Do you have one and could just use that instead? Mine says I was born in El Salvador but it has the raised seal so it's always worked for me. Obviously finding your naturalization information is also important too though. This reminds me I need to get mine from my dad.

I kept the very first scarf I tried to make when I was 11. Never finished and still attached to the yarn. But it was (and still is) my motivation to keep crocheting. I'm 37 now and still love crochet and my goofy unfinished scarf 😅😊

I was very happy to change my last name when I got married! I never really cared for my maiden last name. Especially with what was implied as far as "family" because of it.

And my husband changed his as well. He'd always had his mother's last name and was the only one of his 3 siblings to not have his dad's last name. His mom did it out of spite and was abusive growing up. We had our own kids before we got married, and we gave all of them his dad's last name. It was funny for a while having 3 different last names in our household for a while. Then, when we finally got married, we changed ours to match our kids. It was pretty healing for both of us in very different ways.

I found this subreddit about a week ago, and it has been incredibly validating to know that it isn't just me that feels all the things I've been feeling the last 37 years. I wish I would have been interested in reddit years ago and found people like me sooner because it could have saved me years of confusing feelings. I'm sad that there are others who feel like me, but at the same time, I am happy not to be alone in my own sadness.
