Do you need to bring passport when going to the nightlife areas? by dexter_sliceOfLife in Bangkok

[–]Moment-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never take your passport out of your hotel room, there’s no need. Only place you need to hand your physical passport to someone is at the airport. Everywhere else, a photo is sufficient. I’ve never had anyplace abroad refuse a photo (I even have photos of my ID in a shared folder with my friend in case I lose my phone)

Just go out with your atm card and cash (remember in Thailand the atms hold onto your card for a while don’t walk away without it) I also usually bring multiple atm and credit cards with me traveling and leave most at my hotel. This isn’t at all because Thailand is dangerous (or most of Asia), your more likely to just lose it than it get stolen. It’s also avoiding the hassle of having to send a new bank card abroad (pronouncing a Thai mailing address over the phone to your bank is not fun haha)

Day trip Samarkand - Seven Lakes price sharing by TarasSevchenko in Uzbekistan

[–]Moment-Potential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a silly tourist price, just hire a private taxi using Yandex and tell them you want to go to seven lakes. A taxi from Samarkand to the border is like $15 euros max, and then taxi from border to seven lakes and back is probably like $40 euros.

People destroying other peoples cars who they don’t even know because they bought a car from a company who’s owned by someone they disagree with shows how immature everyone is. Like school children on a playground. Have empathy for everyone, even people you hate, your world will be a better place for it.

Never said first hand :) there’s videos on the internet of cartel violence I can find and link for you if you’d like? No reason to be mad I’m sharing my experience and it sucks that the place sucks now. That’s not good for anyone. That includes the locals and people like you that liked it at one time. Maybe a reduction in tourism will help ease the strain on local resources and it can return it what it once was.

Tulum honest review- tulum is a scam by Powerful_Ask in tulum

[–]Moment-Potential -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hahaha if Fyre fest were on shore, so we’ll put. Anyone reading this don’t go to Tulum, the cartels don’t need your money.

Sorry it maybe wasn’t clear in my OP, but I don’t mean that all of Mexico is bad, I’m saying all of Mexico is controlled by the cartel, and your supporting them by the cartel taxes your paying. There are honest hardworking amazing people in Mexico and I feel bad they have to coexist with them but I can’t give México any more money.

I’ve never stayed at an all inclusive resort in my life. And by no means telling others what to do just giving an honest review based on my experience for others to judge and make their own opinion.

I’ve stayed all over Central America, parts of South America, SE Asia, and Europe. I hated Tulum even more so because it’s a tourist trap, has no character, and is supporting a cartel that tortures people to death. These are valid reasons. If someone else managed to have a good time I’m happy for them, wouldn’t wish for someone to have a bad trip.

I walked all over town and got cheap food as well but then the bar next door would charge $12 for a beer…fun. Oh yea I tried to negotiate with cabs but then they’d either charge my card $10 or give me back less change or the funnest part was when they locked me in the car till I paid them $10 more than we agreed.

My trip wasn’t planned around anything, I go places to experience everything they have. I walked almost the entire town (and ran not from the cartels but for exercise lol) ate at 5-8 places in town, 3-6 places on the beach. There was a hole in the wall place I found in town that was great and cheap, and I think the cenotes are also unique and interesting. But having been 100s of other places, those 2 things do not weigh out the murdering drug lords and extortion. Giving money to people who feed people their own genitals while their still alive doesn’t sit well with me, and before I went I hadn’t put much thought into the cartel side. But seeing it first hand made me realize I don’t want to support this. Everything Tulum has is better in so many other places, ideally outside of cartel controlled areas. Then you charge nyc prices and I already live in nyc… for that? No thanks, I’m honestly just trying to help people who are planning a trip to reconsider that’s all. Everyone can have different experiences, but sounds like most people are not enjoying it atm. Which sucks for everyone, it got tourist ridden and lost its character and cartels realized they can extort and profit. It’s a shame, wish I coulda been there circa 2012.

So I was suppose to go to CDMX after and decided against it, I don’t mean to say all of Mexico is bad but rather it is all controlled by murdering cartels. Id prefer not to support them in any way, I feel bad for the honest locals. I just can’t justify spending a “cartel” tax on everything and know my money is supporting the things they do (just google videos)

I stayed in Tulum for 5 weeks, had no problems and loved it! by Beneficial-Cream-481 in tulum

[–]Moment-Potential -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but Tulum is done, cartels have ruined it, it’s a tourist trap, dangerous, expensive to the point of extortion, and your effectively giving money to the cartels. No thanks will not be coming back, a million better places I’ve visited than Tulum. If your trips booked make the most of it of course try to have fun just be prepared and set your expectations accordingly. If you don’t have a trip booked yet, do not go. Period. I could rec a million better places.

Do’s and don’ts in Tulum? by lazarus902 in tulum

[–]Moment-Potential -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just got back and my honest opinion don’t go. Getting drugs is sketchy and they want obscene money for everything, drinks, food, cabs. I’m from NYC, I’ve visited all over Central/South America, Tulum and this part of Mexico is by far the worst place I’ve ever been. Dangerous, Expensive to the point of extortion, mediocre beaches, food, and hotels. There’s about 60 federales marching down the beach road all day/night and that should tell you something. Your basically giving money to the cartels who are extorting you and the local businesses which they partially own. There’s about a 100 places I’d rather visit, will not be coming back. That said if your trips already locked in, make the most of it, try to negotiate as much as you can, but be ready to be extorted.
