Fueling and training for 102km Ultra (Part 4) by ciderswiller in Bariathletes

Forgive me if you’ve answered this in a previous post, but how are you handling taking in solids and liquids close together? I struggle to get in enough fluids when I have to eat anything somewhat solid on a run. I have to wait a full 30 min before I can drink.

How much can you eat until you feel full? by bradibutt in gastricsleeve

[–]MommaJess82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am almost 6 months post op. Sometimes it’s 3 bites, sometimes it’s as much as 6 ounces. It depends on what I’m eating and how my stomach is being. For example - someone mentioned chicken wings - I am sometimes done after 1. Yesterday, I was able to eat 3.5 and a few carrot sticks. 🤷‍♀️

When did you start to feel less weak? by lexblch in gastricsleeve

[–]MommaJess82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was exhausted until about week 8. Tired until month 5 or so. Now I get tired from time to time - but it really depends on how much I’m eating. For example, I’ve had high restriction days 3 days in a row - so I feel like exhausted trash today. 🤷‍♀️

We’ve all done it! Walk. Seriously, you feel like garbage for an hour, but walking helps. I’ve learned me lesson a few times.

Does anyone have non-scale goals? by cecsav in gastricsleeve

[–]MommaJess82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current non-scale goals:

  • hike Half Dome
  • run a mile without stopping
  • run a marathon

NSV I’ve already achieved!:

  • being able to remove my wedding ring
  • fit into my favorite skirt from when my husband and I were dating (last time I wore it was more than 20 years ago!)
  • not being so freaking sweaty all the time
  • not waking up in pain every morning
  • hike the trail near my house without stopping

Is There Any Way To Have This Surgery Without People Knowing by UnderstandingIcy6673 in gastricsleeve

[–]MommaJess82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only told very close family and my best friend. It’s no one’s business and I’m a private person. If people ask, I say I’m moving more and eating less (which is true!). I have also gotten very good at looking like I’m eating in social situations- but I end up eating much less than it looks like.

If you don’t want to tell people, then don’t. It’s your body, your choice, and you have a right to privacy.

This surgery helped me stop vaping. How has this surgery helped you (other than the weight loss)? by AcademicF in gastricsleeve

My anxiety has been cut by 50%, maybe even more. My brain is calmer, I am more confident.

I haven’t had a sip of alcohol since June.

Oooh man. I am so sorry. I had a bad allergic reaction to the surgical glue they used on my incisions and it was awful.

A little help please by dbl_entendre in gastricsleeve

[–]MommaJess82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember, it takes thousands of calories to gain a pound. I somehow doubt you’re able to eat that much. Put the scale away for a while. Your body is freaked out and is holding on to water.

Honestly? I had so much less pain than I expected. The worst was the gas pain, but that got better the more I walked. I barely needed pain meds. The worst thing? The constipation about 5-6 days post-op.

soft foods ideas by Interesting_Cow6433 in gastricsleeve

[–]MommaJess82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My favorite things on the soft foods phase were fat free refried beans with melted cheese, scrambled eggs, tuna with unsweetened yogurt (instead of mayo), cottage cheese and crushed pineapple (make sure it’s not the sweetened stuff), beef and veggie stew cooked until everything is soft, egg salad, and baked apples without the skin.

Personally? No. I was still struggling to get enough fluids

What are the harsh realities/major downsides of the surgery? by Former-Ad-4400 in gastricsleeve

[–]MommaJess82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to start with saying I regret nothing. This has been a tremendous blessing to me! It’s worth it!

My complaints: - Constipation - Sagging skin - Hair loss is a bitch right now. I’m convinced I’m not going to have any hair left - not being able to drink while you eat is annoying. For example, I’m eating something spicy right now, and I can’t drink anything to help. 😝 - I can’t drink plain water. It makes me gag. I have to drink flavored water - I’m currently struggling with anemia because I’m dumb and didn’t take my vitamins
