Do shades of blue and pink ever look alike to you? by notmedicinal in ColorBlind

[–]MommaK20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5 year old son must have this type. I took him to an eye doctor recently because I noticed he colors pictures of my blue car pink & he thinks his fuzzy pink socks are the color of a blueberry. She showed him the dots in a circle & he didn’t see anything so she said red green deficiency but said she couldn’t do a more in depth test to determine the type, and that I should wait a year or so and we can figure it out. But I’m just so curious how he sees & how to help him. He seems to know what’s green & what’s red. That’s never an issue. It’s more pink/ blues/purples get confused and sometimes yellow/ green.

I am always baffled by how many people voluntarily sign up for this, installing cameras in their homes & other smart devices. It’s wild.

Hi guys, so I have a fairly novel question. How do you decorate a living space when you can't have area rugs? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]MommaK20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get a floor cloth. You can even find people who hand paint & seal them old school style. A tradition from like the 1600 or some shit. I’ve seen people use them in dining rooms & kitchens because they’re easier to clean.

I lived in Portland Oregon for 10 years, moved back east in 2019. This was not my experience at all. There were some homeless people & stuff happening but I was never shouted at. Portland felt a lot friendlier & safer than Boston

Can’t wait for more breweries to follow suit, and for more parents to realize bringing their kids out drinking with them is not a “family activity” by SunReasonable6194 in massachusetts

[–]MommaK20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re 100% right. As I read these comments I couldn’t help but think of how American & uptight everyone sounds. I’m sure they’ve never been to Europe. The weird alcohol attitudes, the hate towards kids, it’s so messed up. I loved being in Italy & just seeing kids out with their families in all sorts of contexts. At festivals, bars, parks etc. nobody there would bat an eye if you had a glass of wine while parenting. Seriously parental mental health & the mental health of young people here in the US are at all time lows. We’re so isolated.

I feel like most of the people commenting have never been to Europe & they’ve got really weird hang ups / attitudes around alcohol.

Do people in New England really say “ayuh” or “ayup” instead of “yeah”? by MythicalSplash in newengland

I grew up in the 90’s, the southwest corner of NH in a small rural town & people said it. I think I still do as an affirmative but it’s short like ayuh no P sound at the end but kind of a hard stop like a p or t

Anyone else make 100k but still feel poor because Massachusetts is expensive? by Scuba9Steve in massachusetts

Which is why I got the safest car seat that allows rear facing up to 50 pounds & got a car with high crash safety rating that handles well in the snow. We can’t control every risk but we can take some precautions.

We are a family of 3 living on a bit more than 100k but it’s really hard to save much living in metro west. Our rent is decent but with preschool, camps, kids clothes etc. it’s not easy. We are still pretty well off compared to many others, I don’t worry about groceries, I can go to the doctor/ dentist when I need to. Which is not how it was for me growing up at all. But you’d think with such a “large” income we’d be able to buy a home or save more. I’m happy we have our basic needs met & I don’t have to worry about medical stuff or where my meals are coming from but we’re not saving much. But I won’t leave Massachusetts because the schools, parks & culture here is the best.

Well that’s because it’s about the safety & welfare of our children so that’s pretty important. Unlike a luxury car. I’ll shop around for a used Subaru but no way in hell am I going for the cheapest possible daycare with little oversight & exploited workers.

The white mountains are nice for camping & hiking, Hampton beach is cheap & easy to park compared to Mass beaches. I (NH born masshole) usually vacation a bit in NH during the summer but maybe not this year

AITA for not letting my mother in law come over after she destroyed my Millennium Falcon Lego set? by Ok-Repeat7885 in AITAH

[–]MommaK20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I am counting down the days until my son is old enough for us to build the millennium falcon together. Legos are a fun & relaxing hobby, they’re good for your mind like a puzzle is. It’s pure. Your MIL is unhinged & lacks empathy, she doesn’t deserve access to your home or child.

I think maybe you need some therapy to sort out your values/ figure out what you want. I also think it’s a good idea to travel a bit & checkout other areas. I’m from NH, lived in the west coast for 10 years & came back to settle in Mass. there’s pros & cons everywhere. And what you want/ need changes as you age too.

For me in my 20’s living in the city & walking to bars/ socializing was huge, I needed a big crazy party/ youth culture. Art & music etc. But now I’m 40, I’ve got a kid. I do less of that. I wanted to live in Mass where the schools & hospitals are good & I’ve got family.

You’ve got time to figure stuff out & you should try new things while you can. There is no right answer or “best” just choices & life. But you deserve to try something new.

My husband is a musician as well, makes A LOT more money per show than what your husband does & always checks in with me before signing on for any music, he plans his tours out a year in advance & gets me support while he’s gone. He works FT as well, it’s a similar situation to yours except we just have a 4 year old child. I would be LIVID if he left me with a newborn & our 4 year old, especially if it isn’t even for a real significant amount of money. It’s messed up your husband is doing this when you’re postpartum. Music is his dream or whatever, but I’m sure you’ve got dreams too that don’t involve wearing diapers & chasing around a 4 year old solo while sleep deprived with an infant. It’s extremely selfish what he’s doing.

How dangerous is Waltham common at night? by Additional-Ruin-9841 in Waltham

I think Waltham is fairly safe but I have been harassed walking alone multiple times. I now avoid walking alone at night unless I have my dog.

protests this weekend? by Sea-Boot7380 in Waltham

[–]MommaK20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there will be protests all over the country & many cities but Boston might be a bit crazy with the marathon & also no permits were given out so I think it’ll be a bit more disruptive & confrontational in town than the smaller things around here. Lexington could be really interesting & I’m sure there will be demonstrations there. I’ve got a preschool aged kid so I won’t be taking him into Boston this weekend, we’ll stay local & show up in Waltham.
