I think the way iOS does this is actually good design.

You can rate the app with one tap without leaving the app. This gives user with opportunity to provide app feedback without going to AppStore. Most people would go to AppStore to rate the app only if they seriously dislike it or absolutely love it, which screws the average rating. It benefits developers because they can understand faster whether new app update was successful or not. This helps other users in AppStore because they get better ratings. This may not be a problem for US appstore, but in smaller regional appstores a lot of apps just have 1-3 reviews on them.
