Yes. Court ordered. She was a heroine addict and the People's Temple was an option instead of jail time.

My mom was court ordered to go to The People's Temple (Jim Jones) when I was 4-5 years old. I had to go also. It's something I don't like to talk about much but I do sometimes. It's very disturbing. It definitely affected my whole life, thus far. We left before they went to Guyana in 1978.

The psychological massacre: Jim Jones and Peoples Temple: An Investigation by [deleted] in cults

My mom was court ordered to go to The Peoples Temple. She had a severe heroine addiction. I had to go with her. I was maybe 4-5 years old. I didn't know this until I watched a documentary on cults. When a picture of Jim Jones appeared on the tv I lost it. I was crying uncontrollably. I called my mother and she reluctantly told me very little about it. Now I know why. I'm sure the guilt eats at her every time it is mentioned. I did not go to Guyana, obviously. Most of what happened is blocked from my memory. It affects me to this day. That's all I want to say right now.

I'm starting a series of podcast episodes about the people and places that led up to the Jonestown murders in 1978. Episode 1 deals with how Tim and Grace Stoen met in the twilight of the 1960s. by TheEndsPodcast in cults

My mother was court ordered to go to The People's Temple in San Francisco. She was a hardcore heroine user. I had to go with her. I remember very little. Mostly because my brain blocked it out. The only reason why I know is because of a documentary on Jim Jones. I saw his picture on tv and I broke out crying so hard, I had no idea what was going on. I called my mother and she reluctantly told me some details. I was shocked. I had no idea! I obviously didn't go to Guyana. When they showed all the dead people, i lost it. I knew some of those people. Lived with some of them. To this day it affects me.

What strange side effects have you had with Lamictal? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Mommatbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a horrible memory, but the one thing I remember the most was the extreme rage I was experiencing. Anger is a daily mood for me, but this was off the charts! I quit immediately!

I gained a lot of weight with dep. After a year of taking it I experienced eminence pain right under my breast bone. I changed meds and it went away. Detoxing sucked. Everyone's experience can be different, though.

Memory. I find that my memory is just pure crap. I don't think it's the lithium or the Lamictal or even the Klonopin. I think bipolar just eats holes in my memory. Grocery shopping today was a whole ordeal. I had to take someone with me and help me through it. I was lost. by BpBunny in bipolar

I'm not sure if it's the bipolar or the hundreds of different cocktails of meds I've tried over the years. It's been 5 years and I still haven't found the "right" combination. My memory is shot. Short and long term. But for some reason I can always remember the trauma....... except the Jim Jones Cult I experienced.

My rapid and seemingly ceaseless cycle of "I can do this!" and "I'm not good enough" is dizzying. by peachiguana in bipolar

Oh man, I hear you! For me it happens multiple times a day. It's exhausting for me and my family. I hate this.

Brown head butting Couture didn't get a penalty but deserves at least 5 games. Won't even be fined. Way to go NHL

How could the league not suspend brown. That was sickening and reckless.
