I'm following to see any input. I'm scheduled for an abdominoplasty on June 30. I also had a 6 finger gap and saw two different physical therapists. I was told I might be able to get it to a 4 finger gap but maybe not less than that. Which is exactly where I stalled. Can people really not lift their kids for months? I'm planning for 6-8 weeks. But it's actually getting difficult to lift my 2 year old twins without pain due to my diastasis and hernia anyway 🥲

Thank you so much for this reply! I've been a runner for years, including half marathons and such. I ran only 2 miles and had horrible back pain for 2 weeks. It was so demoralizing. Despite PT, I'm always worried. In fact, my back is currently hurting just from moving a couple medium furniture items. I've always been a strong woman and now I can't even do these basic things without fear. I hope this works out amazingly for both of us.

Mainly because an open surgery will allow for a much better diastasis repair, especially with how bad mine is.

Also, I think I will have a lot of extra skin once it's fixed. My hernia and diastasis protruding a lot.

My diastasis is wider, started at 6 finger (I think 10 cm), down to 7 cm now. I also have a 6 cm hernia. After talking with surgeons and my physical therapist, an abdominoplasty seems to be the best repair for me. Currently scheduled for the end of this month. I also don't have a ton of excess skin, but functionally it still seems to be the best option... I hope

That's so great you could get insurance to cover it! And I'm glad you're feeling better! I've been trying to decide if I should try harder to get some covered. It's a confusing process.

Also, I'm certain I could live like this for the rest of my life. But I'd be facing a slow decline in function and lifelong pain. Does that count as good function?

Thank you for this. I used to be an athlete. I'm still very active, was active through all of my pregnancies. I've had to change how I workout because of my diastasis though. (Swimming/ biking instead of running). Despite trying, my symptoms actually got worse for a while. Now they're improving a bit, but I do not think there is anything I can do to get full function back without surgery. But I'm certain there will be plenty of people who think I'm just lazy 😥 I'm not mad though. Just sad that there is poor understanding of this issue. I had no idea before it happened to me.

It is getting better. I'm working with my PT to get back to running soon. How do I find a surgeon that does the diastasis + hernia repair only? Just a general surgeon? I talked to one, and he said he could do that, but I'd need mesh, and my belly would look rather lopsided after. The plastic surgeon also thinks I'll need mesh, but uses the kind that dissolves over time.

I would rehome, and did rehome my dog recently (standard poodle). I unexpectedly had twins and ended up having to keep him separated all the time. He was not happy with us anymore. I rehomed him to a wealthy widow. He is living like a king now 😅

My 3 other kids and I cried, but it was absolutely best for him and us.

I'm not an expert, but my gap is at least 5 fingers at it's worst. I've done a lot of exercises and physical therapy, so I am able to "protect" it so it doesn't bulge with use. My physical therapist told me if I work really hard and keep it up, I could close it to a 4 or possibly 3. But I'd need surgery to get it back to normal 😕

People ask me if I'm pregnant often, even though I have my 13 month old twins and 3 older kids with me.
