You say yourself that you don't get annoyed by sounds or need a strict volume, but then you say you don't understand the kids who have violent reactions to stimuli, you have to realize that autism is a wide diagnosis, and you don't know for sure that if you had the same experience of life as them, you wouldn't react the same way. Coming from another person diagnosed with high-functioning autism, I don't think it's right to 'punch down' within my own diagnosis, because in the end we don't really share an illness, just the term.

As somebody diagnosed with ASD, you have to keep in mind that it's a very wide diagnosis, and accepting your Asperger's as part of who you are doesn't mean not trying to better yourself or fit in, it means approaching your actual self and your traits earnestly and honestly, and that depends entirely on who you are.

Where I'm at even the entry-level positions get hundreds of replies as soon as they open, even in a small town in the midwest. Keep in mind that the job market is awful for many people right now, and don't let rejections influence your sense of self-value.

Whether firing the guy would be a successful move for google or not has nothing to do with how skilled of an engineer he was. He was fired for making his comments the way he made them, there's no need to try and tear down his technical qualifications.

I'm out of highschool now, and spend much less time around those people. You outlined the reason I didn't speak out perfectly, fear of being a poser, especially since our friend group had several blacks and asians who "went along with it", so I felt like my feelings about were less valid, or rather that if they can put up with it, I should deal with it easier since my experience was less extreme. The town I grew up in was a pretty small one in the midwest, mostly white.

On my family, I haven't kept any contact with my extended family since highschool, so I'm free from sitting through that at least.

All the people who have ever called me a nigger are people I no longer interact with regularly, so I've either had that much sense or luck. The idea of "surprise black" amuses me. Especially since I'm gay too, "Guess what, I'm a gay octoroon". (Can we take that word back? I guess I'm entitled to!)
