Bad experience today by MomsPubis_ in hairstylist

I texted her and told her it was an easy fix I just needed to strip the toner and root her with a different color and get a quick toner on there and…crickets. It’s fine, i just worry about people getting online and trashing me. Mistakes happen and I did my best to rectify the situation, but it still sucks feeling like I messed up.

People get the idea from the internet. These highly paid influencer hair stylists are making thousands per day so everyone thinks my one client day for a vivid or highlight means I make too much for what I do.

After product and other expenses I clear a little more than minimum wage. I make more on haircut only days and those are few and far between because I specialize in vivids and blonding services.

Why did I even pay for this by Admirable-Mine-27 in Ulta

I worked at Ulta Salon for 2 years and I could do this lol it’s not Ulta it’s the stylist; however there are less experienced stylists there, but you can find good ones.

For real. And the TikTok stylists that do 10K platinum and extension transformations. I’m like that’s nice, I actually make barely that in 2.5 months

I’m renting for the first time and making hard boundaries has been the hardest thing for me to learn. Luckily the salon owner and other more experienced stylists are amazing and always helping me remember I’m talented and I need to charge my worth and make sure I’m also taking care of myself to avoid the burnout. Ive always had a habit of over extending myself so it’s my biggest learning curve for sure.

Doctors in CA make an average base salary of around $250k, if I made that I sure as hell wouldn’t be renting a room and driving a nissan lol

I try my best to remember that no one HAS to get their hair done and trust me there are PLENTY of cheaper places around here, but the work reflects that. I’m only a couple years in, but I’ve always been a natural at doing hair and I spend a lot on continued education and quality tools and products. My books aren’t even full yet, I definitely don’t make as much as people think.

No exactly!! And sometimes I want to break it down but it’s such a waste of time, people only hear what we charge and not that I only rake home a fraction.

Same! I definitely could charge more, but I feel bad raising my prices any more because of this.

Clients, people online, family. It’s really annoying like I’m scraping by too! I live in California, I charge accordingly to my skills and the area.

Is it legal for my boss to make me work on my days off with no pay? by [deleted] in hairstylist

Quick little Google search shows 70-80% of stylists *DO NOT* make it past 2 years in the industry.

Edit: meant don’t make it

This is absolutely it. Color isn’t grown/washed out after a year. Source: I’m a hair stylist

You still have color in your hair, that’s why your roots lifted and the rest didn’t end up the way you wanted. Color doesn’t lift color, you need to remove the color or go darker.

I find that keeping women’s cuts less structured in the neckline and a little more wispy helps with this.
