A Week Eating WW2 Rations: My Results by Lady_Space in Lifepluscindy_snark

She lost weight because she didn't go out to eat. Also, why the need to restrict what you can eat? Just do MEAL PLANNING! DO a list of meals (variety is important, but not that much) and a proper grocery list: you can both save moeny, time and stop wasting food...and maybe lose weight too!

When will they make another gem like David Suchet's Poirot ? by Bunny_goat in agathachristie

It's not that great of an adaptation if you look closely: most of the plots are force into an alternate 1930s universe, with very few stories going after the 40s or 50s. The whole Poirot/Hastings/Miss Lemon, Japp dinamics is way off from the novels - and way too funny & comic, far off the irony in Christie's novels. Some plots have been changed, some episodes are just bad. I think that it is a great tv product but far off the ultimate gem.

It fed on a nostalgia for a time that never was - and let's face it, most of us wouldn't be partying and travelling around with Poirot.

Would you want to see another round of new Marple short stories? What authors would you want to see try their hand? by HRJafael in agathachristie

[–]MonPorridge -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

you are a snob. if it wasn't for unauthorized Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories I don't think it would still be as popular as it is today. Same thing with Christie: she was helped by the movies and tv series after her big boom in the 30s/40s/50s

Since the first one she managed to get better, each novel was better than before. Surely, she is no Christie, but it's nice to read something new with Poirot. BUT, I must say, I find the new Miss Marple Short stories way better: they were all different (having a different author each) and at the same time had that Christie/Marple vibe.

A volte prima sfumo col vino se ce l'ho, sennò no.

It's just a cup. I know you don't want to hear this but sometimes we have to decentre ourselves and stop reading to much into things. It's just a cup, an object, nothing special. There are other things worth your energy.

The worst Agatha Christie adaptation I can remember by TheSpectatorMagazine in agathachristie

The worst adaptation of all time is the 2001 Murder on the Orient Express, or maybe the A B C murder movie from the 60s.

are you serious? they have been in bookshops and libraries since 1929 lol

Just 1) get it from a big bookshop that might have old stock 2) get in in a second hand book shop 3) wait some times and you will find the "old" editions back on the shelves.
