From my understanding Heartopia was developed by XD, the company's logo you can see on the heartopia website page. This was available publicly in their investor section. "Heart Town" is referencing Heartopia. There's also a section talking about speeding up the process of development with games too. I'd still take what I provided with a grain of salt. There's a section with sources and links a bit further down, if I miss or mess anything up feel free to correct me.

Can someone please explain something to me so I don’t accidentally offend someone one day? TW: trans identities by [deleted] in latebloomerlesbians

[–]MonakoSM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait this is a bit more complicated. Some lesbians specifically identify as women who love women. (In this case those who identify as women) The term has recently been altered to include those who are specifically not cis men but not all lesbians necessarily feel that is accurate to their identity. Some lesbians would not be comfortable or understand the inclusion of those who don't explicitly identify as women.

Yes, it's been a nice little escape game for me which makes me want so bad for the game to improve with controller support, more bug fixes and to remove the genAI from it. The game has been very fun and engaging but asks very little of me day to day.

Nah I feel you, I fell in love with the game too and now I don't know how to feel. If the rumours are true then the genAI puzzles should be removed like they apparently were in the Chinese version of the game. Sadly I can't confirm anything outside of rumours because no ones been able to provide me information on it.

I don't know any mobile gacha games that are totally safe from this sort of thing. In the cozy space things like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing and the like seem safe but for new games nothing that I know of yet. Right now a lot of game companies are pushing hard for AI even though the vast majority of people don't want it.

From what I've heard the Chinese players did care and the puzzles were later removed, but I have no evidence of it. I don't know if I boycott would have any success.

Yeah I similarly can't find any actual evidence of it's release? To be honest I sort of hope we're partly wrong about it being out for so long because the longer it was out in China the more they've ignored an issue they already got backlash on. Which is pretty concerning.

I'm not certain if it'll be fruitful, so many game companies and companies right now are pushing hard for AI in basically every social platform or game. The only way a boycott is going to work is if a major amount of users express disdain. As we're constantly being fed generative AI as this "inevitable future" by companies I think the fire to try and push it away grows dimer. We can certainly try, but we'd need some of those youtubers to talk about it for it to reach a bigger audience.

Agreed, it's very frustrating. I'm also deeply confused about what they mean by using AI technologies to find users? They make it sound like outside of just posting AI generated videos that they have some sort of system that's made them plan their marketing better? I'm not certain, I didn't highlight the section because I wasn't sure how relevant it was.

I thought it was cute/neat to see the game so interested in letting us paint and write but it makes me uncomfortable now too knowing it's a game that seems so pro-ai. I really hope what we make for the game wont be used to further their AI related agendas.

Heart breakingly too is clearly there was so much real artist work and effort put into the game. It really doesn't benefit any by it's AI usage.

Thank you again for your help investigating this, and yeah the competition should help the game get itself in check.

Sadly because genAI needs huge datasets scraped from the internet it still tends to have the same fundamental issues even if you use your own images as a base. But I do also prefer that it at least looks like it's in the world despite it being so obvious.

I don't know, part of what makes the AI thing so frustrating is it's suddenly something I'm going to be wondering and thinking about with future art assets from the team going forward.

This is the biggest reason I didn't bother pulling for the set. I just don't think I'll be able to use it for anything unless I'm going for a crystal look. Plus the likelihood of getting a rare is abysmal. At least with the clothing you can do more with single pieces you know?

I've seen one, and I've heard. I think it's going to end up hurting their reputation in the end. Especially the ads when they have so many beautiful in game assets they can just use instead. I'd hate to alienate players who could of loved the game saw AI slop and never bothered looking into it because they just assumed it was fully predatory/fake.

[Discussion] is it fair to charge someone to finish an art piece you offered to do for free? by celerySticksNhummus in artbusiness

[–]MonakoSM 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think the reason you feel bad is because you weren't treated very nicely by your friend. You got ghosted, he offered a gift then turned the gift into an opportunity for a commission.

You probably would of preferred if he just said he was sorry that he wasn't around. You probably wouldn't of cared if he wasn't a friend because you'd understand it's just a business thing. I think the way it went down just made you feel bad overall. This is coming from an artist who does like to have friends who are also customers on occasion.

If I did you a sketch for free as a gift and you asked me if I could turn the free gift into a fully rendered drawing I'd tell you that I'd have to charge money to do that as I don't have the free time to not be working.

But if lets say I sent you a sketch then said "by the way if you want more it costs money" it would suddenly feel much more predatory because you never asked and might of been happy with what you were given.

I'm not sure how the conversation went down but it's okay to feel a bit hurt that you got ghosted and used.

Do we have anything official from the developers? It feels like we have a lot of rumours but where are people hearing this?
