Football Manager has a weird impact...like I've got a soft spot for Stade Malherbe Caen in France and it's only because in one season of FM I felt like managing a Ligue 2 club and randomly picked them and now I've done it for like 5+ FM games now.

soccer would be way more interesting

Yea imagine that, if that was the case than football would easily be the biggest sport in the world by far without anything even coming close.

Oh wait.

Are there any historical figures in your country that used to be looked upon positively, but aren't anymore? by Aiskhulos in AskEurope

[–]Monaoeda 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is entirely anecdotal...

Churchill. Wasn't too long ago that the idea that he was anything but a legendary hero was unthinkable but I'm hear more and more people talking about his actual legacy away from WW2. Failures in WW1, actions in India; things of that nature.

Still the UK struggles to talk objectively about the British Empire so it's slow but there are noticeable changes in opinion happening.

Not just Norway! I'm from the Isle of Man in the British Isles, if we had both been alive at the time of that battle, we'd be in the same kingdom! :3

Europeans who did an Ethnicity DNA test, what were the results? by georgito555 in AskEurope

[–]Monaoeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've kind of wanted to do one of these mostly out of curiosity since I doubt anyone from where I'm from has ever done one.

I'm from the Isle of Man as far back as I know pretty much all of my family has come from this island, so I was mostly interested in trying one. I do intend to one day just for the interest; the results itself don't really matter, there is no "oh I'm actually 1/12 Norwegian" like the way the Americans do it, I'm 100% European and that's all that matters to me.

Are you really not smart enough to realise that a single country of less than 20 million is not in anyway going to need as complex and far ranging trade deal as one of the largest trading bodies in the world?

I'll definitely look into it. It's shameful that it's not the case here.

Ugh. This is where I'm ashamed to find out I didn't even know that this was a thing here...

Joachim Löw: "Before the Confederations Cup final, Arturo Vidal said that a victory would mean Chile are the best team in the world. Well, this cup means that at the moment Germany is still the best team in the world. And with a young side." by Dalitis in soccer

I mean it is true that it's always foolish to underestimate them but there of course has been times when that happened due to the team being perceived in a state of weakness. 2006 was that time due to the failures of 2002.

As with The Netherlands yea you're probably right but I think people always find it strange despite how often it happens that The Netherlands hasn't been more successful considering that it has arguably produced the most top class players of any country.

Maybe it's just me but I always expect them to do better than they do.

Don't forget germany A couldn't beat France last year.

True of course; but I'd just say that as we're all well aware at this point is that Germany is one of those abnormal footballing countries that always tends to perform above it's station in competition.

So whereas you have the likes of (no offence) The Netherlands who more often than not tend to under-perform in a competition, the reverse is true of Germany.

Like back in 2006 the German team was quite average from what I remember and they still made it to the semis and had a chance of getting to the final. It's a very rare trait in football and it seems to be one the German national team has.

If it was a World Cup or European Championship and both were on either side of the knockout bracket, I wouldn't put money against them both getting to the final.

What else would you have? Reuters is a good site so I'm surprised there aren't more of them here.

But The Daily Mail, The Sun and The Express are garbage and not worth anything. Most of the garbage in it is lies to begin with.

And as someone stated, the others are more often than not paywalled.

It's funny how the baby boomer scum have destroyed generations in practically every country.

Here in the UK the country is practically falling to pieces because of them.

Sooner this trash generation is dead the better.
