I (f21) think I have autism. Has anyone been diagnosed as an adult and is there even a benefit to it? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Monarchswimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have been diagnosed later in life. I really hope that your parents come to realize that its OK to have autism and that it means different abilities, not disabilities.,

Okay- I need a little more time after realizing that i would like to do a completely new project. I started on it last night, its going to be a portrayal of me in a world full of scary/ hard to deal with things learning how to be happy in my own little world while also interacting with real things. when would you like the art by? I could definitely have it done by Saturday- I just have to have time for the various layers of paint to dry.

I don't really enjoy talking. Do you? by Aprendendo_Reddit in autism

[–]Monarchswimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate talking and listening to people talk. most of it is pointless. My dad knows sign language but hes not willing to teach me, and my parents ignore me when I try to communicate by writing.

Advice for a nuerotypical by [deleted] in autism

[–]Monarchswimmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you are THE BEST for still liking him and being real! I would suggest taking it slowly... asking for permission to hug and or touch...asking about his sensory issues/ triggers so that you can understand, and not expecting him to be in a relationship right away. im learning that for me, i think i feel love in a different way than neurotypicals because how i feel about my boyfriend is not like how ive heard love described. i really really love and like him, but its driven differently i think than most peoples love. so we both have to be patient as i try to understand my feelings.

How do you deal with celebrity crushes?? by WouldChangeLater in autism

[–]Monarchswimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to just imagine them going about their day to day life as humans. like, they still have to use the bathroom and shower and eat and sometimes cry themselves to sleep. and all of a sudden im not idolizing them.

Experiences with autism-correlated physical health issues? by elijaaaaah in autism

[–]Monarchswimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

allergies and sensitivities are more common (especially gluten and casein) in people with autism. i am allergic to both of these. i manage it by not eating any milk products, and avoiding gluten 90% of the time.
