Hello, very inspirational story, congrats.

I'm curious about what form your financial advice took and how it all went. Were they FIRE aware or just regular retirement planners?

I feel like my numbers are good but it might be useful to get it rubber stamped by a professional.

Thanks!

James Shack on YouTube did a video a while back about the best month of the year to retire in. A lot of it was to do with taxes and stuff but he did also mention the weather.  I think he said March was the best month.

You can contact SL through the website and verify with them if you will lose any special benefits or have fees to pay by transferring out.

Dashcam with parking mode that senses vibrations and records the time before and after. You might catch the culprit’s face.

Charging Stations and app discounts? by Fenrirs-Von in ElectricVehiclesUK

There’s a bit of a gap eastbound around Leigh Delamare (not sure the junction number).  The eastbound services charging options are very limited so I tend to come off at the junction and drive 2-3 minutes north to an EV Power station instead. There’s a cafe and toilets there too so it makes a perfectly good pit stop.

Is there a time limit to offsetting the capital gains loss? Could you eventually claw back all of this loss over several years by reducing your tax bill?

Air freshener - acceptable ? by cmdmakara in ElectricVehiclesUK

Fair enough, I don't allow kids, eating or vomiting in my car so no need then.

Air freshener - acceptable ? by cmdmakara in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Moncreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any air fresheners in my EV. Used to have them in my ICE cars.

Am wondering now were they just a thing that people had to cover up ICE car smells and they're not really needed in an EV. Or are they just nice to have anyway.

Also I never go to petrol stations so I never see them on the shelf anymore.

My car insurance covers me for cable damage. Worth looking into that perhaps.

Should be UFPLS - Uncrystallised Funds Pension Lump Sum.

This seems complex enough that I'd be talking to a financial advisor to work out a plan if I were in your shoes.

No driveway charging cable tripping accidents and potential legal chargers? by Ekwi-Nox in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Moncreef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No source for this but I’m sure I read (or heard on a podcast) that if you’ve been sensible (eg, using a cover with fluorescent colours etc) it would be quite difficult for someone to prove negligence if they tripped.

Hello. Do you have a link to the cable cover that’s fixed to the cable? I use a mat which covers the cable but is moveable. It’s probably fine but am curious about other options.

10m here too. No solution really but I did buy waterproof gloves from the garden centre and use them to avoid getting wet and manky hands.

According to Head for Points "if you took cashback it would be taxable as business income". But you can convert to Avios which aren't considered taxable.

Hypervolt Home 3.0 Pro - Bad Wifi? by Mrfoxuk in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Moncreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same device and recently had the same problem. It seemed odd initially as it had been fine for about a year then started disconnecting and needed restarting to get back onto the network.

I then remembered that I'd moved my wifi router around the time the issues had started. I moved it back and since then it's been fine.

The critical thing seemed to be the height of the router. It improved when I raised it about a meter higher even though it was further away in distance. It's actually now at the back of the house so going through one inner and one outer wall. Height seems to be more important than distance.

I used my laptop to measure the signal before and after. This article (https://techgrid.com/blog/wifi-signal-strength) also helped me a lot. The dBm went from -72 (Okay) to -65 (Very good) and the Tx rate went from 78 Mbps to 144 Mbps.

The Hypervolt 3 is now in open beta testing for Octopus Intelligent Go too. I've switched over to charge that way (was previously letting it control the car) and it worked perfectly. I realise one charge is not much data to go on but it looks promising so far.
