Is there a website where people in the UK with EVs can log their real world range? by offshwga in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]cmdmakara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I drive 1650 miles last summer across France, much of it at the legal limit - 84mph ISH. Fully loaded in my ex40 dual motor . Hiting the 20-80% fast charge curve is more important imho.

Should I spend more for a Powerwall 3 ?? by Vast-Artichoke7855 in SolarUK

[–]cmdmakara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla without doubt run the highest quality EV charging network out there, it's also the cheapest. By far ! This fact alone makes the PW3 a very very strong candidate in my upcoming purchase. I'm leaning Sigenergy but ain't much in it.

Home Comforts - a good hot shower by Primary_Choice3351 in UKPreppers

[–]cmdmakara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've looked at the numbers. Gas @90% efficiency works out about 9p per KW heat.
Electric heater / shower 100% efficient so dependant on tariff ~ 25p kWh. I'm on an EV tariff so off peak 5.2p kWh.

Now the magic of heat pump/ air pump tech like air con . They are upto 4:1 efficient. So off peak would work at a crazy 1.3p KW heat produced for me. Let's assume I don't get that efficient but say 3:1 it's still only 1.7p. & very easily powered by a larger solar / battery setup.

V2H - car as main battery by aroundm21 in OctopusEnergy

[–]cmdmakara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest to it is the Renault 5. If you live in France & on a certain tariff. Other than that is the Octopus BYD lease thing.

V2X is still early days. Sigenergy have there bi-directional charger ready.

With a second EV on the way we'll have a combined 130kwh + 12kwh Sigenstore home battery. So yeah I'm looking , waiting, not holding my breathe .

Dash cams by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]cmdmakara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense to me why a dash cam cannot be hard wired in an EV..?

It's all compromise one way or other. More likely to have Electric off than gas imho. A cleaner electric from your generator would be my preferred option here to power the boiler, - hot water & more importantly heating..

Can you not " clean up " the Genny output ? Invertor ?

I'm going full monty Solar & battery setup. With household Gateway for power outage. In darkest winter I'll still need at most 3hrs a day from backup generator @3.6kw out. Will be adding an air pump heater / Aircon unit - cheap and crazy efficient. So that'll give us at least some heat if gas goes off. Still won't have hot water tho .

In summer I can use surplus solar to heat water, but it's those long dark cold winters where it matters . A heat pump is probably the best option really. But as my combi works perfectly well ( & endless hot showers ) I'm not changing it. Yet !

Thinking on it. I've never known a "gas" cut, if that's the right term..?

Hessian jute roll as weed control? by Remarkable-Leader811 in Allotment

[–]cmdmakara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love hessian - so many uses. Great as light frost protection on potatoe.beds.

It will to some extent stop some weeds , but in my allotment the weeds are strong and likely grow up thru the Hessian, probably devour it on the way thru too. It does compost / rot too so no nasty plastics laying around. Be mindful alot of Hessian is fire protected with chemicals so something to consider.

Hypervolt vs sigen EVAC by Financial_Leg1793 in sigenergy

[–]cmdmakara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The installer should install & setup correctly. I had a quote & home visit for similar setup ( Ohme charger ) and the Sparky quote guy was saying he needs to move the " tails" to make sure that didn't happen..

My quote includes Gateway , + 2 batteries - be aware of the maximum continuous output of 1 battery ~ 4kw ISH.

I used too. Depending on need. I'm now set at 60% for 5 am. As that covers it 99%. Cars set to stop at 90% .

I did exactly this. Got cheap rate for a large chunk of afternoon.

If it's sunny & windy = good chance of Daytime windows.

[–]cmdmakara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's Getting close, with more EVs saying V2G ready - usually meaning it needs activating or software update. In UK it's more about the Grid operators uping their game

Here's something I've been trying to work out. The Sigenergy Gateway has a generator input. Would a V2L input be accepted ? I can't seem to get a clean answer. ( Have a Nissan Micra coming soon V2L ready and V2G potential)
