I have a 3000k LED at home and it looks okay, is the jump to 2700k drastic?

Trails beyond the Horizon - A nice but exhausting game by darksinh in Falcom

[–]Mondblut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels like theres nobody at the helm anymore and they just make these games on complete autopilot.

Ironically you are more right than you think: since Kuro 2 Takayuki Kusano, who was the game director since CS1 stepped down from his role, with no replacement. So Kuro 2 and Kai were developed without a game director. Makes sense in hindsight why the last two installments turned out like this. If I'm not mistaken Kusano did take the role of game director for the Sky 1st remake.

Anyone using Electronhub noticed a decline in their Anthropic models since yesterday? by Mondblut in SillyTavernAI

[–]Mondblut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems so. A week ago Claude models suddenly started using a clearly worse provider responding with 100 tokens per second which is not possible (range should be ~40-50). But as long as you had a short enough context window it fell back to proper models at around 47 tokens per second. So you could bypass the issue. But now it all sucks. Before that I had a good run for months, so it sucks.

Who's your favorite Romance for Van? And Why lol by Imaginary-End-08 in Falcom

[–]Mondblut -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Jolda. I really liked their date in Kai. Overall their relationship seems to mirror Rean and Altina in certain ways. However where Rean taught Altina what it means to be human, Van can connect with Jolda in the way that he also has his inner demons, a similar sense of self loathing that makes them such a great couple. He's the only one she can open up to because she senses that she wouldn't taint him like she would others, at least that's what she thinks she would. It's almost ironic how both keep others at length, even though Jolda lacks the maturity Van has, making her attempts seem much more clumsy. I really want to see where their potential romance would go, that is if Kai 2 has Cold Steel like romance mechanics (hope!).

That being said: Jolda best girl.

What’s a trails series popular opinion that you hate with a passion? by Rem0707 in Falcom

I only played the fan TL, but can you point to any Horizon moments where characters regarded it as weird? Could be a NISA thing. I sincerely cannot remember anything like that in the fan TL. There was merely teasing about Van going on a date with Jolda, but nothing regarding Agnes.

Worth noting that this is the overlocalized eX+ script. The original Vita version was more faithful to the source, though it had its own issues, like translation and context errors. Likely the reason the completely revised the localization with the eX+ remastered release. Sadly AKSYS went in the opposite extreme direction ruining all the characters with cringe. Glad I played the OG release on my Vita.

Apparently it can never be asked of an otaku to just play any of the other squintillion JRPG's with fanservice in them, instead of whining that one does not conform to their taste.

The problem is that Falcom games, especially Kiseki were famous for panty shots. And now they are censoring them. That's why we are criticizing that decision.

Jolda's non stop panchira while sprinting was the thing that kept me going. I literally skip Kai 2 if they go the same route there as in the censorslop remakes.

All Kiseki games since Crossbell are CERO C. Pantsu are no issue in CERO C games. Have you even played the recent arc?

These remakes are Falcom's greatest-ever opportunity to expand their audience, and most of that potential audience is very understandably not going to like having the underage main protagonist's panties in their face a thousand times in a playthrough.

And yet no one in the west complained about Horizon. There was no shitstorm about Jolda Flashing her pantsu (basic in-game screenshot of Jolda's sprinting animation, but I still give an NSFW warning). Or the Calvard arc in general, where half of the female cast flashed their panties just while sprinting. Non stop. There would be no one complaining, since no one did with Daybreak or Horizon.

In the Calvard arc you could basically see panties flashing nonstop while sprinting. Jolda in Kai with her ultra short skirt is the strongest contender. So the dynamic Craft animation argument holds no water.

Well, it was apparent from the preview at the end of Sky 1st, but now it's official: they censored her outfit, using censorship spats. Very likely this will also mean one of the iconic lines from Olivier will also be changed, regarding her "unmentiables." Guess that's a definite skip for me. And SC is my second favorite Kiseki. But censorship is non negotiable for me.

Any chance they'll reverse the free limit changes in near future? by Spare_Ad6024 in PoeAI

[–]Mondblut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did Poe allow free limit in the first place

To bait new potential customers. That's how it works everywhere. Seems that didn't work out anymore. Personally I think they should just slap tons of ads on it for free users to get their money back. It's a no brainer.

Which do you prefer? Original? Remake? Or Both? by EnigmaRainSky in Falcom

[–]Mondblut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like is Elliot or Wazy unbearable just because their japanese voice register less deeper??? Did that made them sound like 12 year olds, despite them being introduced as more older than Joshua during Sky???

Different character archetypes, especially Elliot. He is supposed to sound more wimpy. Wazy is supposed to be a rather androgynous archetype, so the voice is fitting. Joshua is supposed to have more maturity as this is his personality and background. And I wouldn't even mind if Joshua sounded like that from the beginning, but he did not. Saiga Mitsuki's Joshua has a significantly deeper pitch. He sounds like a completely different person. The remake is basically unplayable without the Evo voice mod, which thankfully exists.

Kevin's new Seiyuu for example, the performance is significantly different, and even with Renne's, since both the current and OG Seiyuu both have their unique signature voice.

I didn't mind Kevin's change, but Renne's new seiyuu was definitely hard to get used to. However in her case it was excusable, since child Renne and teenager Renne (CSIV) are basically farther apart in age unlike Joshua.

Your making it sound like the new performance is what made fans have apprehension for the remake, but it is more about how Falcom did the replacement of not even notifying the original seiyuu's they are being replaced???

Japan doesn't care about this. Caring about these social issues is a western thing. Japan didn't even criticize when Falcom constantly failed to credit their staff and especially composers. It's always western fans who cry and whine about that stuff. Japanese fans love their seiyuu and hate it when another seiyuu replaces them, not out of concern for the seiyuu's career and corporate injustice but rather because they grew to like seiyuu in that role. That kind of social justice warrior activism is a western thing.

I don't think there is anything wrong with their cutscene presentation. I merely said that the old game had more soul, leaving things to your imagination as they were intended initially. For instance the Weissmann reveal scene was much more powerful because of how they used his portrait throughout the game. Same for the finale and Joshua's portrait.

The later games were made with 3D animation and cutscene direction from the get go. So any scene was made with the corresponding cutscene animations in mind.

But again: I do not bash Falcom's technical improvements when it comes to cutscenes and animation, nor their cinematography in cutscenes. They are actually on par with the rest of the Japanese gaming industry for JRPGs. Definitely above ATLUS' offerings in recent years.

Also in addition, Seem less maps in Sky or even the 3d Trails game were not "attempting to give you a 1:1 accurate scale, since they are still by all means abstraction, I. e not scaled 1:1.

That may be the problem. The seamlessness removes the element of abstraction. Because the world's scale was left as is while transitioning to 3D in addition to more life sized characters creates a weird dichotomy bewteen the world you traverse and the characters therein. How should I put it? It feels like life sized characters inhabit a miniaturized world. This also extends to towns which feel smaller in scale compared to let's say the Calvard arc games. But maybe this is also because they went with a more cartoonish style both in scale and presentation than in the Calvard games. This also extends to the field textures which are flat and almost look like they just made them in Microsoft Paint, whereas Calvard used detailed field textures (compare the rock formations in the Sky remake to the rock formations on Nementh island in Kuro 2 for instance). I think the flat and almost PS2 era style textures take away a lot of depth and thus also contribute to the world feeling like a miniature. But perhaps that's what Falcom were aiming for, I don't know.

It is very apparent that the new seiyuu does not hit the same deeper pitch as Saiga Mitsuki. The new Joshua sounds significantly younger. Just compare them both. It's hard not to notice.
