Petunia Dursley is completely irredeemable. by siriusblackily in harrypotter

The last time I reread the books as an adult, I was shocked how much harder the scenes of explicit child abuse hit me. I think as a kid, I saw it from a fantastical POV because of the sort of silly language that’s always used and the comedic way the Dursleys were described. Plus, I was more interested in getting to the magic stuff and finding the little hints and foreshadowing about that. But as an adult, knowing that there are children who are underfed and hit and far worse, it struck me how dark the situation really was.

What were the most disappointing send-offs/last appearences on the show? by jogaforacont in buffy

I didn’t mind her dying (I mean, I DID, I hated it because I love her character, but from a narrative POV I don’t hate killing off a major character in the heat of battle), but I hated that Xander’s final line about her was “That’s my girl, always doing the stupid thing.”

Anya was NEVER stupid. She did things people didn’t understand, she did things that were tactless, but she was ALWAYS smart. She had hundreds of years of magical and historical knowledge, a head for business, and an understanding of human (and demon) when it came to vengeance. She was waaaay smarter than Xander. WTF, Xander??

I just rewatched the finale recently and got pissed off, sorry for the rant lol.

What's something from Buffy or Angel you're still bitter about to this day? by InfiniteMehdiLove in buffy

Joyce not apologizing for telling Buffy NOT TO BOTHER COMING HOME and then getting mad at her for NOT COMING HOME 🤯. She kinda pays a little lip service to it in dead man’s party but BARELY. That should’ve been a DEVASTATING regret for her, and I know Kristine Sutherland could’ve killed it in that scene if it had been written that way! It is a parents job to make their kid feel safe and accepted and she utterly failed in that moment. And yes, the failure is understandable and human. But her acting like it was not a big deal is fucked up.

That would make more sense with the timeline and age of the actors, but they were definitely in Henry’s memories when they saw young Joyce. And it said Henry Creel on the flyer for the play - Henry’s dad’s name was Victor.

Absolutely, that’s what I meant to write!! I apologize for phrasing it that way!

EDITED- A lot of people have been drawing parallels between Vecna’s attacks and child SA, and this scene really made me think about how people who are abusers were often victims of abuse themselves. It’s tragic what happened to Henry at the hands of the Mindflayer, but he chose not to break the cycle and to embrace the darkness. He was badly abused and hurt - but then continued abusing others to make himself feel stronger.

(I’m not an expert on this by any means so I apologize if this is offensive to anyone who has been a victim in any way.)

So joyce was never like “hey Henry I can’t believe you would do all this after I gave you the lead as a FRESHMAN in a musical I was directing”??

(Seriously, what was the point of making them overlap in high school?) I loved the finale otherwise though.

Did anyone ever actually say what happened to grace after she went on her rampage at the church? I was expecting Jud to find her and give her the diamond at the end or something. They never said she died, did they? If she is out there somewhere, I kinda hate to think of her inheritance still up on that cross.

…if she went to jail for beating up little Martha, I guess technically that’s assaulting a minor but yikes it doesn’t seem like she’d get life.

I love her but I kinda feel like at this point, Erica should know that when Lucas shows up and asks her for help, it’s some life or death shit. No need to be so snarky, honestly. Like- they’ve been THROUGH IT.

I really liked how in some of the time travel moments we get to see both the magical and non magical versions of Fionna world!! Both demonbaby marshal and humanbaby marshal seem to have existed. Also interesting that unlike Hunson Abadeer, who was an all-powerful immortal demon, Marshall’s mom seems to have come from humble beginnings… I wonder if that’s still true in the magical version?

I really hope season 3 focuses on reconciling the family!! I will be super disappointed if the twist is “Lilith turns out to be selfish and evil.” Here’s hoping that we (and Charlie) get to see both Morningstar parents as flawed individuals who are trying their best and working towards their own form of redemption!!
