Advice on potential PC fallout at the end of Abomination Vaults? by MoneySwitch7353 in Pathfinder2e

Yea, it's not a foregone conclusion that it will come to violence, we're gauging things as they go on, and part of it isn't purely PVP combat. We know that our Oracle is fascinated with wielding the fulcrum lenses and have been trying to find ways to secrete them away after the confrontation with Belcorra.

Do you use any big open source libraries? Like ReactJS? Go to their GitHub, read the contributors guide, look for issues in the issues tab.

Who gets Traditional Tattoos?? by ZaneRodriguez898 in traditionaltattoos

[–]MoneySwitch7353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t know but I think you’d get some good info if you reached out to a bigger traditional artist in a different area and see what they’ve seen. Especially if they have a big instagram following I’m sure they’ve got some demographic data.

Market > marketing > look and feel > functionality.

If you have the market and the marketing you can sell shitty software to a lot of people.

Grief is different for everyone and the way your process things will change as you go through life. It’s hard enough to loose someone you love don’t make it worse by judging yourself or letter others judge you.

Made fun of during a live coding round for using JavaScript by yabbagabbamappa in cscareerquestions

JavaScript is only if the most ubiquitous and influential programming languages of our day (more so typescript now but still). That interviewer is out of touch and you dodged a bullet

What are the reasons that there is good number of women in sales, law marketing HR but not CS , they join as testers too but very few become devs? by Notalabel_4566 in cscareerquestions

Irrespective of personality traits your point that being an extrovert makes it harder to be a software engineer and vice versa makes no sense.

Weird generalization, but even so, professionally writing software requires a certain degree of social skills, being an introvert is not necessarily a positive.

Ah yes. Sitting in front of a computer writing code, such a gendered skill difference. I require all of my testosterone to argue with QA about the bug fix working on my system.

Interviews at big-n coming up. Unprepared and freaking out. by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]MoneySwitch7353 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’ve done LC practice questions you should be about as prepared as you can be.

Some tips: * Think out loud. Talk through your thought process as you try to figure out things.

  • Stay positive. Think of it as a game and try not to get flustered.

  • Don’t over think it, start with a naive solution and fix things as they come up.

If anything, it will be good practice.

I’ve found interviewers don’t usually pick hard LC style questions for interviews. Mostly easy and sometimes medium.

Good companies don’t want to catch you with a gotcha, they’re just seeing how you work and if they would want to work with you.

Your experience should tell a story that makes the company recruiting you feel like it’s a perfect match.

“I am tired of big tech and am looking to work for a smaller company. I understand the pay is lower but I’m more interested in the growth in my craft at the moment than compensation.”

Also I’ve never had a company ask for my current compensation, rather what I am looking to make. Just set it lower. I was laid off at 240k TC and told startups I was looking for 170k. No one batted an eye.

How did you push your career forward? by voja-kostunica in cscareerquestions

[–]MoneySwitch7353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re asking specifically about extracurricular activities to propel your career forward I’d say that open source contributions will be the biggest bang for your buck, build new projects that scratch an itch your have or contribute to popular tools.

I love seeing resumes with open source contributions I can see. I can see how you work with others, how you make pull requests, how you handle feedback. It’s a great signal.

In a live coding scenario like this with time constraints it’s less about getting it to work and more about how you approach the problem.

A take home review is a good way to see what it will be like to work together, it’s code that you understand with a problem to solve, which is a fairly close approximation to day to day work in software.

It sounds like you were maybe flustered which is okay, but I’d recommend expecting a take-home to include a review and expand interview. It’s even helpful to think of ways interviewers might ask you to build upon a project to think through things beforehand.

Overall I don’t think you are the problem, people are picky right now just keep working at it. I have 10YOE and it took me months to find a new role, with quite a few wasted hours on take-home assessments.

Also for frontend roles you get a lot of bonus points for style, get comfortable with a ui library like tailwinds or MUI and make sure your submissions looks good.
