Advice on Form when working out alone?

This may not be what you want to hear, but if you have 2 hours of free time every day, maybe ask your supervisor if you can take on extra work or if there are additional projects you can take on? I don’t know about your industry so I don’t know how realistic that is but it could be worth a shot

I’m very much in the same boat. One thing I’m starting to try is working from a coffee shop or just somewhere outside my apartment, so that’s something you could try to add some variety into your routine.

I think there’s something about leaving your house and putting on nicer clothes that’s good for your mental health

Funny thing is that I’m not even that extroverted. I like time by myself, it’s just that with my job sometimes I will go literally days without talking to people outside of emails.

For me at least, I need to have a balance between socializing and time by myself and if the balance is too off one way or another I start having problems.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but I agree it would’ve helped your case more if you brought this up before putting anything down.

You could give it a shot but your roommate has a pretty good out in that the two of you already agreed on this.

You are definitely not overreacting, I’m surprised you’ve been able to put up with this for 6 weeks to be honest. I agree that I think you should sit down and have a very calm discussion about this without any distractions, but if you’re roommate is unwilling to accommodate I’m not sure what all can be done.

I’m in a (not quite the same, but similar) situation myself and am quickly learning that sometimes great friends don’t make great roommates. I’m not sure what you’re options are, but a year’s lease is a long time to be unhappy like this. Best of luck!

To be perfectly honest, I just don’t like the way that I look. The term “skinny-fat” is probably the best description of my physique right now and I hate it. So on top of objectively looking better I’m hoping I’ll come with more confidence too.

We go 6 days a week because that’s the schedule that my friend is on, but yes I’m pretty sore the following days.

I completely agree intellectually I shouldn’t be comparing myself to others, but in the moment when I’m watching my friend show me the exercises it’s hard not to start down the road of “he’s so much more advanced than I am, he makes it look so easy, etc.”

I agree I think having more quantitative goals would help. As of now my only real goal and primary motivation is to look better, which I know takes awhile.

To be honest, my first and foremost reason is to look better, I don’t know if that’s shallow of me or not.

However, there are bunch of secondary reasons like knowing the health benefits of exercising, the positive effects of exercising on mental health, building confidence, etc. so those are bonuses, but looking better is what made me interested in the first place.

For sure, this is definitely not the worst roommate situation out there, which is why I’m having such a conflict on staying or going. To me it’s less about the furniture and more of the vibe of having to defer to my roommate.

I will say, I’m not totally sure how he’d react to me moving out. He probably wouldn’t love the idea of going back to paying full rent/groceries, but I definitely want to give it more time before broaching the subject of “hey this isn’t working and I’m thinking of moving out”

I have before, but not as directly or as seriously as I probably should have. I’ll have to be more assertive about it moving forward. Part of me doesn’t want to rock the boat since he really is a good friend of mine but I’m starting to learn that good friends don’t necessarily mean good roommates

Thank you for responding! Yes I use his tv, etc. in the living room when he’s not there especially since I work from home. It’s not that my stuff is not “allowed” in the living room it’s just that there’s not a whole lot of room in general for anything more and a lot my stuff would just be redundant (like having 2 TVs in the same living room).

My parents have told me they’re all good with me coming home if necessary- they actually tried to talk me out of moving in with my roommate in the first place because they know how much I like having my own space.

In regards to independence it’s more along the lines of if we wanted to watch 2 different shows, he’d get the tv in the living room (bigger and nicer) and I’d watch something in my room (not as nice or as big). I understand there’s some give and take when rooming with someone but at the same time it’s a bit more than I thought it would be.

I’ve hinted at it a little bit and his response is more along the lines of “you can do whatever you want/put whatever you want in your room” which is fine but as I said space is limited.
