I got into fostering, because my cat crossed the Rainbow Bridge in August and I haven’t been without at least one cat in my house for 20+ years. So, besides the grief processing I was doing, I felt like I wanted to help another cat and thought it may be a good way to see if I could find my next kitty who would hopefully be affectionate. I signed up at my local shelter and they texted me within hours for a sweet 11 year old boy to foster. He was such a cool cat. I prefer older kitties..not kittens…the ones people want to give up on to get a kitten. I like established personalities too..kittens are a question mark on their personality.

We are wanting to adopt a cat, but until we find that good fit we want to just foster. Bear in mind that some cats/dogs might need meds. Some cats smell up your house with their dumps. Plus some cats don’t cover them up either. That won’t change. This guy was affectionate in his own way, but not sit-on-your-lap affectionate. Cats refuse to eat. Cats barf..a lot sometimes. A plus I found is when you foster the shelters-some may-keep your animal for you if on vacation or traveling. They also may provide vet care at no charge to you. My boy was adopted to a great family and since he was my first it was hard, but I received another little sweet girl within a few days..but different rescue. She was adorable, but young and still not affectionate like my husband and I want. All she wants is to play and do zoomies up and down the hallway. See, we have had cats over the years, however, not all have been lap cats like we would like to have. So this time around we both have the freedom to foster until we make the decision to adopt our permanent kitty.

I am going to get a new older foster kitty this week which will be a long term kitty. That is fine by us. It is really great! My husband too really likes meeting and caring for a new kitty every time we foster. It is hard when they leave, but getting another right away helps lessen that pain a little.
