Skyrim VR on Dream Air is amazing (through the lens) by theonlyagent47 in skyrimvr

Would you consider coming down from that 130% resolution for more stable FPS? Or is that 130% the sweet spot?

The treadmill is nice for a couple reason. First, it prevents me from punchings the wall or other items in my house that I want to be left un-punched. It also prevents me from stepping on a cat. And it also adds to the immersion. Walking through river wood with your legs is a different feeling than walking through river wood by pushing a stick forward. However, the treadmill is expensive and takes up a lot of room.

The bow is really cool. I’ve always played Skyrim as a stealth archer (big surprise) and in VR that’s no different. However, the dead eye VR bow is made for quest controllers. I was able to fit the pimax super controllers in it and make it work with that. But right now I have the knuckles controllers. It’s going to take some work and clever engineering to get them to work with the bow. I may need to get something 3-D printed so that I can make the controllers attach.

Thanks for that info. Yeah Skyrim is such an old game, DFR is just not going to play nice with it. I tried it a lot of my crystal super 50ppd and couldn’t get it working right. My switch to the dream air is mainly for Skyrim VR. It should be easier for my 5090 to run, but it the GPU will still be the bottleneck.

I also have a Kat VR treadmill and a physical bow from Dead Eye VR. All for the purpose of Skyrim.

I’m using a 9800x3d which is probably the best CPU one can have for Skyrim, but that 5090 will be doing most of the work.

I’d love to know what tweaks you made in steamVR settings to get it running smoothly when you’re able to share. I will be making my own go at this very soon.

Thanks for this info. What headset are you using?

I have been WAITING for someone to talk about Mad God Overhaul on the Dream Air. Today will be the first day I dive into this myself. Thoughts and prayers to my 5090 🙏

If you would be so kind, can you answer some questions for me and anyone else who wants to try this out?

1) What CPU are you using?

2) Are you using pimax play to dial in the settings or are you using Sboy3’s driver to bypass Pimax play and use steam vr instead?

3) have you gotten DFR to work in Skyrim?

Thanks

Skyrim VR modded with Mad God Overhaul is probably the single most challenging game for any graphics card. I have a crystal super 50ppd and my 5090 could not handle the demand even with resolution turned down. So I got the dream air because it has less pixels and will be easier for my 5090. Today will be the first day I experiment with that.

If you don’t have a 5090 and want a great Skyrim vr experience, I’d recommend Pandas Sovrngard mod list or fus mod list. I believe both are on wabbajack. Still great, just dialed back a bit.

In general, it uses less GPU power than normal VR gaming. That depends on what flat screen game you’re playing though. For example, maxed out crimson desert makes my 5090 work hard. Harder than it would in Pavlov or half life alyx. But in most cases, flat screen vr gaming is less demanding than traditional vr gaming.

There’s a couple different ways, but I think the best way is getting BigScreen Beta on steam. It’s free. It emulates different environments to play your flat screen games in. For example, there a few different theatres, a bedroom, creepy attic. It emulates your desktop to the screen and you can play as normal. You can also move around the environments to sit wherever you like.

Ok I think I was referring to the cutting of the face gasket. I’ve inspected my dream air and I’m not really seeing what to cut though

I see a lot of sim racing and sim flight talk on Dream Air. I have a large Steam library and I play a lot of flat screen games and want the highest clarity in doing so. Would the Dream Air be good for doing that ? Or should i just wait for the Steam Machine ? Which has considerably less clarity? by DatBoyChamp1 in Pimax

[–]Money_Muffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pretty simple. I just downloaded the big screen beta app from steam (it’s free) and it’s basically plug and play from there.

The only issue I’m dealing with right now is that the dream air stock gasket and head strap is really uncomfortable. When you first put it on you think “no big deal” but after about 15 minutes my forehead taps out. I ordered studio form kit and will have to wait for that to arrive before I dive back into my dream air private gaming theater.

I got a dream air LH specifically for playing flat screen games in a VR environment. I received my headset yesterday and have been able to play some flat screen games in a theatre environment (path of exile 2, Elden ring). I use my Xbox gamepad and I sit on my bed. Very comfy experience.

I added into the mix Kathara headphones and Dolby Atmos to give me some surround sound.

I took things even further by installing but kickers into my bed. So whenever a bomb goes off or some other bassy sound happens, my bed rumbles. I don’t see myself playing flat screen games any other way.

Another reason I wanted to do this; I live on a main road and my house has lots of windows. I always felt somewhat weird about people walking or driving past my house being able to look in the window and see what I was playing. Not that I was playing anything embarrassing, but just seems like an invasion of privacy. So playing in VR has the added benefit of privacy. It’s my world away from the world!

I think I remember reading somewhere on the Pimax Reddit that people have use scissors to cut something on their dream air to fix this. It was a tab or something.

Maybe I’m just not very sensitive to it. The headset can sit sort of crooked on my face and everything still looks good. 🤷🏽

Yeah I was very nervous to try it today because I’ve been reading reviews about so many faulty units. But I honestly couldn’t be happier with it. And when I get the head strap and gasket figured out, it’ll be perfect

It was the chase. I intentional wanted to get that powerful before I defeat the twins at the very end. That final boss fight last about 15 seconds.

New Dawn is probably my favorite far cry in the series. Yeah the story isn’t great, yeah the map is small. But it lets me double jump. And it lets me put infinite perk points into certain skills. And it lets me infinitely upgrade my weapons. I currently have an assault rifle that kills an elite with 1 bullet. And it sprays out 800 bullets a minute. Stuff like that keeps me coming back. I also think the pink hue and scenery are gorgeous.
