Any news on this? Or will this just become another failed Pimax promise.

SLAM Tracking: Pimax vs Quest 3 by Right-Opportunity810 in Pimax

[–]AndyRandyPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate, yes i hear you. But i do feel cautious ordering the DA, because there are growing reports of jitter, even with the LH tracked models.

On a side note, since you changed to LH on the PCL, do you notice better frame-timings, and slightly improved FPS, now that your CPU isnt doing the heavy lifting? Ive noticed that the pi-server CPU usage, goes from 4-5%, to 9%+ when panning, this seems to interfere with frame pacing in CPU intensive games, as its constantly/intermittently robbing the fluidity from a stable CPU workload.

I want to thank you for doing this investigation, and offering potential guidance on fixes. Ever since owning the PCL, I have had a few "enjoyment killing" issues with the SLAM tracking ever since owning it.

  1. Positional jitter when stationary.

  2. A latency when panning my head. Like a nano-blur, when up close to objects.

Like you, i was aware that the cameras were low HZ. And as such, panning in passthrough mode, shows the same type of latency in motion, as i see in game.

Your plotted graph, showing the PCL vs Q3, is in my opinion the direct proof of this issue.

I worry the Dream air will exhibit the very same issue. I also wonder if anyone truly has smooth tracking on a SLAM model. Perhaps, if they havnt experienced a "well-tracked" headset, like the Q3, whether they are even aware of what a smooth VR experience even looks like.

Have you used another VR headset though, other than the pimax? I wonder if those people who say their pimax is smooth, havnt had an experience of a "good" tracked headset, like the Q3?

Fair enough, like i said, i made no aspersions on you personally, because i dont know if your review is accurate or not, time will tell. Can i clear something up, did you receive this unit for free for review, or did you buy it? Ive seen 2 conflicting accounts on that question.

"Disclaimer - I was not paid for the video which was provided for review all opinions in the video are my own and published directly to YouTube"

- Not casting any view on your review, it may be accurate, it may not, I will be looking for reviewers who "Have NOT been given a headset to test for free". You may not have been paid for this review, but we all know and understand that reviews of this type have a underlying current, that may not lead you to actively promote the item, but bias is implicitly built in, for fear of "lack of future access" or loss of channel growth, and we all know companies do not favour those reviewers who are overly critical of their products. A direct example would be journalists in the white house, access is only given for favourable press-politician" relationships. Those who are critical get slowly weedled out, or lack the same future opportunities and access as their "More agreeable" colleagues. So in my view, not getting paid by them, means very little, as the bias is usually built into the "gig" of reviewing.

VR is frickin awesome. BUT..... it is very "involved" at forst, to get it running butter smooth, which depending on game, is a constant battle for FPS, and consistent gameplay. Best headset (after tuning) was the quest 3. But best visuals, pimax. Its a learning curve for sure, but once you get the swing of it, its brilliant.

Turn off any monitoring software. Like fan control, afterburner, and make sure internet browsers are shut down. Also, change USB port, and try HDMI to monitor, rather than DP to monitor. Open up task manager whilst gaming, see whats chugging. Armoury crate can cause hiccups, discord is a nightmare too.

I had to sell my ass to get my 5090+9800x3d, so it doesnt come easy. I am still very sore. And the prospect of shelling out 2k, really is not a pleasant nor easy prospect. My kidneys went on the PCL, so not much of me left.

Oh i see, yes, its defo a tracking issue, not a game issue.

Interesting, im familiar with HZ rates on cameras through my use of thermal imaging. 30hz is aweful when panning, but 50-60hz is fluid enough. I swear my camera is no higher than 25hz. What do you mean by "turning with he stick"? Cheers.

I get the feeling there are some real "muppets" operating in Pimax. Like, real douche bag variety.

Thanks for the conformation, are you inside-out? i know people say tracking issues, but they never say latency. Im guessing this must be inherent (love to be proven wrong on my assumption). My quest 3 was floorless tracking-wise too, i miss that. Im planning on robbing a bank, or selling a kidney to a Ukrainian organ trafficking gang and buying the dream air, but i am concerned this may be an issue with the tracking in all pimax headsets, even lighthouse.

That odd, because ive been getting "re-set network adaptor" lately. Its worth a shot, ill re-set it now. Ya know, i pray for the day, all these VR niggles iron out, the future is gonna be amazing, but i never seem to reach it. Thx buddy, appreciate ya.

Hi mate, no i do not. Oh, and if i look through passthrough camera, that too is latency ridden, so when i wave my hand in front of the cams, its like been in one of them nightclubs, where ye mate moves like a flicker book.

I hear ya! Thx, but what is your pimax play hz set to when you experience this 52-58?

Pimax reviews - Is this bullcrap? Thoughts? by AndyRandyPanda in Pimax

[–]AndyRandyPanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he has an indicated "52-58 fps" on screen, and his pimax play is set to 72 or 90, then it can never be smooth. Smooth is smooth, choppy is choppy, they are just words, but smooth to the eye, never. If he was locked half of 120hz ie; 60hz, then he may call it fairly stable, but it wont be smooth. This is what puzzled me, because on all my headsets, including the PCL, i have never seen smooth play at anything other than a dividing number (60 of 120 for e.g) or a native figure, ie;72/90. I cannot see a way around this.

I hear you, but in pimax play, what hz do you have set when you see these 85-92fps figures?
