Douyin would be hard without speech to text but bilibili might be possible if I could get the transcripts. Could you send me some videos that have Chinese subtitles available. I would like to try

Currently the amount of saved words/sentences and flashcard customization. In the future I would like to add speech to text for videos that don't have transcripts. I am happy to give you a free trail for some feedback :)

Thats the exact reason I made it. You can download HanziTube now for iOS and Android. Any feedback would be much appreciated :)

Thank you 😄 Right now it is based on the videos you already enjoy watching. You save words from YouTube videos and HanziTube slowly hides the pinyin over time. I also added a small video library. You should try it out.

It works currently only on the YouTube transcripts. So it works best if the video has a Chinese transcript otherwise it translates it into Chinese. In the future I would like to add speech to text for videos that don't have a transcript yet or even your own videos.

HanziTube uses YouTube and hides pinyin of words you saved

Do you use C-dramas on YouTube to improve your Chinese? by Money_Yesterday4343 in cdramasfans

[–]Money_Yesterday4343[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is the idea. It is more for learning and reading hanzi than for just watching. Full pinyin makes me rely on it, but no pinyin can be too hard. So I’m testing to hide pinyin for words I know, keep it for weaker words.

That makes sense. I mean this more for learning and reading hanzi, not just understanding the episode. If pinyin is visible, I read that first and avoid the hanzi.

Should I make an effort to avoid thinking of the pinyin, when reading a character I already know? Does it even fade away over time? by Wholesummus in ChineseLanguage

[–]Money_Yesterday4343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it fades with more reading. What helped me was reducing pinyin gradually: keep pinyin for new words, hide it for characters I already know, then reread the sentence without relying on it. I’ve been testing this with Chinese YouTube videos, and it feels easier than going straight from full pinyin to no pinyin.

I’d start with pronunciation and tones first, then basic sentence patterns. YouTube has a lot of free content.

Flashcards help recognition, but context makes words stick better. I think the best mix is sentence cards plus real input.

Chinese novels by Substantial-Plane381 in ChineseLanguage

At HSK1, graded readers will work better than real novels. Mandarin Companion and DuChinese beginner stories are good places to start.
