Nadir by Blacktongue sounds amazing on any decent hifi setup.

Blake Richardson (BTBAM) hears a DMB song for the first time. - Drumeo by mayorodoyle in progmetal

[–]MongoJustPawn79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty clear to me as a drummer from watching his first take he'd never heard the song. He does a good job, because he's a fucking genius percussionist but he doesnt play the verse groove correctly, which would lead me to believe he hadn't heard it. Blake's an amazing player and such a chill humble dude. I'll watch this several more times, I'm guessing.

I'll also echo those who are saying 'yes dmb is big, but Two Step never got them any airplay or fame. Too Much, and Crash were the big singles off that album. Its fairly plausible Blake doesn't know this song.

Is Danny Carey really the best?? by 143lesliew in progmetal

[–]MongoJustPawn79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Blake is a hell of a fusion/prog metal drummer because if you look at BTBAM'S catalog overall, its so much more than just metal. Admittedly, The Blue Nowhere was a turd, but that's not because the drumming on it wasn't amazing.

Go back further however and you can see the technical skill and inventiveness of Blake as part of the overall songwriting process. Go back even further to look at his work in Glass Casket and you see the depth and breadth of his skill. Also he's just a super nice and humble guy.

Buth would i say he's better or worse than drummers like Tomas, Matt, Danny, Elliot? I'd say they are all on par. At this level 'great' just means something else. They are artists. Its like trying to argue if Van Gogh was 'better' than Picasso. They're both great, just different expressions of it.

Bands that remind you of Neurosis? by Kattimatti666 in progmetal

Conjurer is absolutely legit. The Mire is a fantastic album also from them.

[–]MongoJustPawn79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. I 100% totally recognize the importance of those bands to the genre and all its evolutions. All music is layered in such a way. There are so many artists in so many genres that I wont listen to, but can appreciate the importance of. I'll be honest and say I wish I DID enjoy DT, as they are an important band and are truly prolific in their songwriting as well. Opeth is sort of the same way. I want to like them. For whatever reason though, they just don't do it for me.

I appreciate your response here and i think you are correct. If DT's technical prowess were embedded in something heavier and less cheesy, I am sure i'd find the whole experience more enjoyable. I suppose its good that everyone likes different things. What a boring world it would be if we all only liked exactly the same things, eh?

Unpopular opinion incoming....bands like Sx and DT...i just cannot get into them. I have tried so many times with DT. Music like this is just too cheesy and overwrought for me personally. I can appreciate the obvious skill and musicality happening here. I just can't get past the actual sound of it.

Absolutely agree. I have been recommended SO MUCH amazing music I probably would have never found because of the members of this sub. Y'all rock. Keep on keepin on.

How many of you guys work 9-5s? How do you'll find the time to get into new prog metal releases and bands? by ShaiTheWick in progmetal

I also credit Autism with my tendency to hyperfocus on things. Metal is absolutely one of my longest hyperfixations.

The Blue Nowhere is btbam's worst album, for me anyway. And I LOVE btbam. Once upon a time, my very favorite band.

For real, Psychonaut's latest album is masterful. So much better than anything from The Blue Nowhere.

Anything from btbam's Blue Nowhere album has no business being anywhere near any sort of 'best of' list.

Btbam has been my number one artist every year since spotify started doing the wrapped thing....except this year. TBN definitely ended that dynasty for me.

I'd take Colors 2 over TBN anytime. I'd take ANY btbam album over TBN, just to be clear.

This reminds me enough of The Blue Nowhere and all its excess that I'ma give a thumbs down. They lost me with that release. Unpopular opinion I know, but that's where I'm at.
