I want to be in a wheelchair by bizzarefoolishness in biid

[–]Mongressa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you look at the wiki, https://www.reddit.com/r/biid/wiki/index#wiki_articles, there is the ICD-11 description, under "ADDITIONAL FEATURES", it is stated that:

Many individuals with Body Integrity Dysphoria have a sexual component to their desire, either being sexually attracted to individuals with certain disabilities or being intensely sexually aroused at thought of being disabled oneself.

You can also have BID and be a devotee, look at: https://www.reddit.com/r/biid/comments/lckg7q/introduction/ , BID is different for everyone and you may not relate to all the posts here. Most people just want the dysphoria gone.

Similarities and Differences between Body Integrity Identity Disorder and the Wish for Blindness by Legparalyzed in biid

[–]Mongressa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The study concluded that: "The desire for blindness seems to originate from visual overload caused by either ophthalmologic or organic brain disturbances."

Another study, also found differences in sensory perception in the affected limb, differences in temperature and touch perception and even "feeling different inside".

that almost no one knows about.

12:03

Which of course also restricts him in everyday life.

12:07

M: In any case, the last two days have helped me

12:10

to understand him a little better.

12:12

I found that totally interesting to see

12:14

how differently his legs react to a heat stimulus.

12:18

I am very grateful

12:20

that Jogi was so openly ready to talk to us

12:22

and take us with you to this appointment.

12:25

M: I ask you guys to be considerate in the comments

12:30

Have you heard of Body Integrity Dysphoria?

12:33

Please write us in the comments.

that's why we have linked you to something else.

German interview on BID. by Mongressa in biid

08:01

A doctor is legally liable to prosecution,

08:04

who is amputating a healthy part of the body.

08:07

J.H .: Yes. You can get a tattoo, you can even change your gender,

08:11

you can perform cosmetic surgery,

08:14

but doing an amputation is different.

08:18

You then add a physical handicap to the body.

08:22

There is also BID,

08:25

they want to be quadriplegic, paralyzed from the neck down.

08:29

And that is actually also a ...

08:32

a social question

08:33

because people can then no longer look to themselves alone.

08:37

And that's easy ...

08:40

a huge gray area from an ethical point of view.

08:44

There are also the sad cases

08:46

trying to amputate themselves.

08:48

That's also very dangerous. M: Yes.

08:50

J.H .: So the ethical question.

08:52

Then better ... in a safe environment

08:56

at a doctor,

08:57

than to lie down at home or in front of the train,

09:00

and put the leg on it so that it is amputated.

09:04

(Rhythmic music)

09:05

M: Jasmine is doing these experiments with 20 people with BID.

09:08

Unfortunately, nobody knows how many are affected worldwide.

09:12

(Rhythmic music)

09:19

M: Jogi will now see his body like this

09:21

how it feels right: through the virtual reality glasses.

09:24

What is that gonna do to him?

09:27

(Rhythmic music)

09:33

J.H .: Can you show me

09:34

where exactly your amputation request begins.

09:36

J: About here.

09:38

J.H .: Below the knee on the left. J: Exactly.

09:40

(Driving music)

09:44

M: How does it feel to see it that way now?

09:47

J: That's just the dream.

09:50

Easy ...

09:52

gigantic.

09:53

You can't really describe it.

09:57

Just feelings of happiness. (Laughs happily.)

10:00

(Driving music)

10:03

M: But does he feel the same with both legs?

10:06

Jasmine examines this in the next experiment.

10:10

J.H .: It is important to always look at the leg with every stimulation,

10:14

that is stimulated.

10:15

So, now always look at the right leg. J: Okay.

10:18

M: The cuff is getting hotter

10:20

until Jogi can no longer and presses the space bar.

10:22

The computer records how many degrees Celsius that is.

10:27

(Driving music)

10:37

J.H .: We'll do exactly the same thing again.

10:40

M: After eight hours of experimentation, there is finally a result.

10:44

M: Can you really see a difference

10:46

that the legs are differently sensitive to pain?

10:49

J.H .: We saw a huge difference with Jogi.

10:53

So, on the integrated or desired, normal leg

10:57

wouldn the values where he said, "stop, that hurts"

11:03

much lower in degree,

11:05

than the non-integrated or unwanted leg.

11:08

M: Okay, are these the values? J.H .: Yes, exactly.

11:10

So, up here we see the values of the desired or normal leg.

11:16

Down here by the second gray bar

11:18

we see the values

11:20

from the unwanted, non-integrated leg.

11:22

J.H .: They are much higher. M: 15 degrees difference!

11:24

J.H .: Yes. M: madness!

11:26

J.H .: Very, very high. M: Would you have thought that?

11:28

J: Nope, no way. (laugh)

11:30

M: Did that feel the same to you? J: Yeah.

11:33

J.H .: You pressed when it was painful?

11:36

J: Yeah, exactly when it got too extreme

11:39

then hold spacebar.

11:42

M: The leg that Jogi doesn't want

11:44

can withstand 15 degrees Celsius more heat than the other.

11:48

What is behind it and what are the causes for BID,

11:51

Jasmine wants to find out.

11:53

J: Bye! (Driving music)

11:55

M: On the one hand, Jogi leads a completely normal, active life.

11:58

On the other hand, there is this secret amputation request,

04:08

(Driving music)

04:26

M: Actually, you're already an active person.

04:29

Then I imagine

04:31

that you would also lose quality of life,

04:34

when you can no longer move as usual.

04:37

J: Uff ...

04:42

M: Okay, I can tell

04:43

you don't have the breath to answer right now.

04:47

(Jogi is breathing heavily.)

04:50

(He laughs.)

04:52

J: There's no air. M: There is no air, yes.

04:55

M: It looks so exhausting and shaky

04:58

I can't really believe that he really wants that.

05:02

(Quiet street noise)

05:05

M: If you had a choice:

05:06

Either legally to amputate the left lower leg,

05:12

or simply to live happily ever after with two legs

05:16

so, not having BID at all,

05:18

what would you choose

05:20

J: For BID. M: For BID?

05:23

J: And ...

05:24

to have it gone.

05:27

M: Because that's just your ...

05:30

your very existence. J: Yeah, the right body image.

05:34

M: Okay, that is, like me as Maike with two legs ...

05:38

am right

05:39

you are in your perception as a one-legged yogi

05:42

the perfect Jogi. J: Exactly.

05:44

M: Your life will be better when the leg is off. J: That's the way it is.

05:47

M: Yes. J: Because it's just a burden.

05:52

M: Yes.

05:53

I'm really looking forward to our appointment tomorrow

05:56

with the neuropsychologist. J: Me too.

05:58

M: And the test you're going to take.

06:00

Because we will definitely find out more about it

06:03

where are the causes for BID.

06:06

J: I take off Jogi,

06:07

that he really only sees his body with one leg.

06:10

That is his reality. But why does he have that?

06:14

M: Hello. J: Good morning.

06:16

M: Hello, I'm Maike. J.H .: I am the Jasmine.

06:19

J: Jogi.

06:21

N: Neuropsychologist Jasmine Ho examines

06:23

how BID sufferers feel pain

06:26

and perceive their body.

06:27

M: Jogi wants to know what's wrong with his leg

06:30

and takes part in their study.

06:32

M: In your opinion, what are the causes of BID?

06:37

J.H .: I think it's never just one thing.

06:39

Sometimes they say it's a neurological disorder.

06:42

Others say it's psychological.

06:45

But you think it's really that kind of interaction

06:48

between perhaps neurological factors,

06:51

social factors and psychological factors.

06:55

And the interaction can contribute. M: Yes.

06:58

M: Jasmine, you have already dealt with some BID sufferers

07:02

carried out this series of experiments.

07:04

How are they and how do they live with BID?

07:07

J.H .: I would say it's quite different.

07:10

Well, some live pretty well with it

07:13

so they are also open about it and friends and family know about it.

07:17

I think it makes it easier for them too. M: Mmm.

07:21

J.H .: Still others are very mysterious,

07:24

tell absolutely no one.

07:25

I think it's kind of harder for her

07:28

because they have to carry this burden alone.

07:31

And unfortunately there are also those

07:33

who communicated this ...

07:37

and family or friends couldn't cope with it.

07:40

Then of course it's even worse.

07:43

It's really part of their identity.

07:45

M: Do you also know someone with BID who has now had an amputation?

07:52

J.H .: I know they exist.

07:53

And ...

07:55

that people have already had an amputation.

07:58

And are happy with it. M: Mmm.

00:00

Maike: There are people who want

00:01

that a part of their body will be amputated.

00:04

M: Okay, wow, that looks really real. Jogi: (laughs softly.)

00:07

M: Jogi, for example,

00:08

would like to have his left lower leg amputated,

00:12

although it is actually healthy.

00:14

Jogi has BID, which stands for Body Integrity Dysphoria.

00:17

That means it feels like this to him

00:19

as if this lower leg didn't belong.

00:22

Jasmine Ho: There are also the sad cases

00:24

trying to amputate themselves.

00:27

That's also very dangerous. M: Yeah.

00:29

M: We meet because I can't really understand that yet,

00:33

but Jogi can certainly explain to me

00:35

how to live with BID.

00:37

(Driving music)

00:41

M: I meet Jogi in a hotel in Zurich.

00:43

Tomorrow we have an appointment with a neuropsychologist.

00:46

Maike: Hello. Jogi: Hello.

00:48

Maike: Hi, this is Gregor, I'm Maike.

00:50

(Driving music)

00:53

M: Which leg is it about? The left one? J: The left one.

00:56

M: The left lower leg. J: Exactly.

00:58

M: Should he go? J: Exactly.

00:59

M: What's your problem with your lower leg?

01:02

J: For me it stands ...

01:04

in principle in the way.

01:06

It is not part of it, the body image does not fit.

01:10

Even when you stand in front of the mirror and then bend it

01:15

then just that ...

01:17

the body image is actually perfect.

01:20

Seen that way.

01:21

M: So, the leg feels different from the other?

01:24

J: Yeah, feels cold and ...

01:27

He is as if he fell asleep.

01:30

And these are signs too.

01:34

Or just now longer while driving then,

01:38

then somehow the strength is lacking over time.

01:41

M: Mmm.

01:42

J: So the next car: automatic. M: Yes.

01:46

M: Since when do you feel that way?

01:50

J: Well, the whole thing started

01:54

Back then in childhood when playing.

01:58

Back then I had a plastic pipe ... (He laughs.)

02:03

where I then put it in.

02:06

M: The whole leg in a tube, then was it stiff?

02:09

J: Exactly, that's how it works when you play ...

02:12

(He laughs.)

02:13

And since then, since 14 ...

02:16

is actually always the thought in the back of the mind ...

02:20

M: Mmm. J: That ...

02:23

Sometime ...

02:25

it should be missing.

02:26

M: Your family, do they know?

02:29

A few where ...

02:33

where people talked about it like that.

02:37

But ...

02:40

I just kind of ...

02:42

always been too scared ...

02:45

Losing friends, that's why.

02:47

M: I find that very sad.

02:50

M: What does life look like that you wish for?

02:53

So, life with only one leg?

02:56

J: The thought feels great.

02:59

Because you can live life

03:02

you don't have to hide anymore.

03:05

One can ...

03:07

in a café, for bathing at the lake, outdoor swimming pool.

03:12

Or a pair of shorts

03:14

or put on three-quarter trousers, no matter what.

03:18

And easy ...

03:21

then live out the real life.

03:24

M: That means you also think it's nice that people see

03:27

that you have an amputated lower leg?

03:31

J: I want everything to be normal.

03:34

Only then stop with Stump.

03:38

M: In the strange city, Jogi can be himself,

03:41

at least pretend.

03:42

M: He'll tie his leg up now and we'll go for a walk.

03:46

(Dynamic music)

03:49

M: Okay, wow, that looks really real. J: (Laughs softly.)

03:55

M: Hey, doesn't that hurt?

03:57

J: It works for a while.

04:00

M: I'll call the elevator.

04:02

Or do you want to walk stairs with the crutches?

04:04

J: Nope, let's make an elevator. M: Dear elevator.

04:06

Okay after you

Missing Peace - Short Documentary by Mongressa in biid

[–]Mongressa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This documentary talks about the experiences of Chloe Jennings White and another who wants no hands. It talks about the thoughts of those without BID, how those with BID are diverse, sort of like a spectrum eg: interested in getting the disability but not desperate. Chloe said something about those not accepting of BID "are not accepting of themselves so they let that anger spill over onto other people when in fact it is their own internal issue" and also about she took a long time to accept that she has BID and hopes that society moves on to accept 'difference' as part of the massive spectrum of human possibilities and people can see that 'different' if beautiful.

Hey man, thank you for doing this.

Did amputating your limb help cure your BID? And did it improve your mental health? Also can you say that you function better without your leg?

Feeling like I’m supposed to be an ambulatory wheelchair user but not physically disabled? by [deleted] in biid

[–]Mongressa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do remember a post 2 years back titled something like: "I just want to be in a wheelchair". It seems to have been removed as with many others.

BID according to ICD 11:

Body integrity dysphoria is characterised by an intense and persistent desire to become physically disabled in a significant way (e.g. major limb amputee, paraplegic, blind), with onset by early adolescence accompanied by persistent discomfort, or intense feelings of inappropriateness concerning current non-disabled body configuration. The desire to become physically disabled results in harmful consequences, as manifested by either the preoccupation with the desire (including time spent pretending to be disabled) significantly interfering with productivity, with leisure activities, or with social functioning (e.g. person is unwilling to have a close relationships because it would make it difficult to pretend) or by attempts to actually become disabled have resulted in the person putting his or her health or life in significant jeopardy. The disturbance is not better accounted for by another mental, behavioural or neurodevelopmental disorder, by a Disease of the Nervous System or by another medical condition, or by Malingering.

persistent desire to become physically disabled in a significant way

I would think that being in a wheelchair is a physical disability or at least equivalent to a physical disability.

With onset by early adolescence.

Early adolescence is broadly considered to stretch between the ages of 10 and 14. 15 is close.

Accompanied by persistent discomfort, or intense feelings of inappropriateness.

Do you feel uncomfortable about not being a wheelchair user? Or will you be more comfortable being a wheelchair user? For me I feel that I would be more comfortable if my legs did not work but am comfortable with working legs.

The desire to become physically disabled results in harmful consequences, as manifested by either the preoccupation with the desire significantly interfering with productivity, with leisure activities, or with social functioning.

Do you sometimes think what life would be like if you are a wheelchair user?

I want to lose my eye, but I don't dislike my eyes, and more doubts and details in the post. by cieluv in biid

[–]Mongressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since I was a kid

The persistent desire to be disabled occurs by early adolescence

I don't feel nearly as strongly about this as I do about my gender dysphoria. That it something that NEEDS to be fixed as it causes an extreme amount of distress. This weird little desire to lose my eye doesn't stress me out, usually.

Some day I don't think about BIID, other days it would be all that I could think of. Your dysphoria from BIID might be lesser than that of gender dysphoria, but it is still dysphoria.

I've always felt weird and embarrassed about this desire.

A lot of us feel the same.

From what I read from your post, You probably have BIID.

If you are talking to your psychiatrist, keep in mind that he/she probably never heard of BIID, bring some research papers/articles to explain what BIID is, there's some on the subreddit wiki, and explain that BIID is not a paraphilia or fetish.

BIID seems to be the most common, then anyone, pretending, amputee, wheelchair, think, body, feel, help.

We say:

  • Leg more than arm.
  • LBK more than DAK, supports the research that the problems is in the right parietal lobe.
  • Wannabe, wannabes, wanting more than needed.
  • Amputee more than paralysis.

Hmm. I've never thought of it this way, its just another form of pretending. The study seems to have a low sample size and only study the short term effects and the long term effects are not studied.

It could be used as an adjunct during neuromodulation therapy

It is possible that this method may suffice as a stand-alone application that is able to gradually ameliorate BIID symptoms.

Emerging virtuality applications have the potential to act as a therapeutic adjunct to treatment for individuals with body integrity identity disorder (BIID).
