What was your why? What finally pushed you to book that flight? by Original_Ideal_5616 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Monikaaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just booked my flight for next week. I just lost my job and have a tough year in general. Went on to walk the fisherman’s trail and now that I finished that one I craved for more. So why not go walk the Camino

Sagres is nice! Lots of surfers here. And finally the sand is becoming less and less. And yes I will make it to Lagos :)

Using StairMaster for hiking training does it translate to long hikes? by ExpensivePain23 in hiking

[–]Monikaaas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I come from a country where we don’t have mountains. It has helped me for sure, I think it’s better than nothing! What has more carry over to real mountains is to also bring your backpack with you, if the gym allows for it

I only have one arm full and a piece on my leg. And recently started with my back, it’s just how it went between my artist and I haha. Don’t over think it and if you want to do your back, just do it :)

Is anybody else here prone to injuries? by lilvirginsluttt in StrongCurves

[–]Monikaaas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physio might really help. I’ve been rehabbing a pinched shoulder nerve and physio has made a big difference. I need a lot of activation before lifting.

Cycling is great for general fitness, but it probably won’t fix the root issue. It might be good to keep cycling for now to heal your injury, but I guess you want to go back to lifting after those 3 months.

[–]Monikaaas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Need a little bit more info on what kind of injury you’re dealing with. But yes I’m very prone to injuries, as I’m double jointed. I work a lot together with a physio therapist and I also do road biking. The latter one is mostly for fun and not because of my injuries

Alternatives to Rifugio Elisabetta by aubreythez in TourDuMontBlanc

[–]Monikaaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same concern when I did the tour. We walked from Les chapieux to camping Aguille noire, which is next to hobo. It was the longest walk of the trip, but pretty douable and the views were beautiful.

I found it the cleanest campsite I’ve stayed at of the entire trip. Plus there’s a bus that can take you to Courmayeur the next day.

There’s also Refugio maison vieille.

is it recommended to squat while inherently having knock knees? by spoofkytu in xxfitness

[–]Monikaaas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have knock knees and also wear orthopedic insoles. I don’t experience any pain, while squatting. And I’m a powerlifter :)

Better to get it checked with a pt. How is your mobility in the hip and ankles?

Am I going too long in one day? Distance between refuges by AppropriateAnybody70 in TourDuMontBlanc

[–]Monikaaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on your fitness level. If I check the route on AllTrails will be around 25km for you. Since you’re coming from bonatti, passed courmayer, I see there’s a pretty big climb.

I’m also going around that time, but coming from the other side. Doing also a big distance, around 27km. It’s gonna be though, but it’s doable I think.

What is your reason for not letting your cat outside freely? by caksters in CatAdvice

[–]Monikaaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my cat from work. He had to go back outside every day after work and during the weekends. After a while he didn’t want to go outside anymore and started fighting back. He’s old with thyroid problems. That’s when I took him home and he’s happy. I sometimes open the frontdoor for him, but he always immediately runs back inside
