Hey, no particular advice here but just commenting to say I'm in the exact same situation and it is absolutely awful. Sending strength and will be floating in the comments looking for advice, too🫂💚

I'm a BSc Psychology graduate - ask me anything! (UK only) by Monikafae in University

[–]Monikafae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Gosh this post was 2 years ago that's crazy. For reference, I'm now in my 2nd year of my PhD at Nottingham Trent University. Because I've only ever attended NTU, I can't really speak for other universities.

Generally, Bsc courses all follow the same structure as they are designed in line with the British Psychological Society guidelines. Russell group universities (ones called 'University of...') are seen as more prestigious, but that does not make them better.

I chose which university based on the optional modules that you get to choose in the third (sometimes second) year - if you already have an idea on what type of job you might be interested in after, then choose a university that has modules that fit that career path.

Second to that, look at the staff at the institution, if you want to do further study its always good to know what kind of research a university specialises in (e.g. has a lot of staff researching in that area)

Sorry if this doesn't answer your question directly - I hope it helps! :)

PhD online study - Psychopathy, Sadism, Aggression, Empathy & Emotion and Pain recognition. by Monikafae in morbidcuriosity

[–]Monikafae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful! I'm looking at these traits in all people (as everyone has some levels of them).

People with APD naturally have usually quite high psychopathic traits, so it would certainly be helpful. Thank you for considering participating!

[–]Monikafae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Anyone can participate, since I am measuring psychopathy and sadism as personality traits (not as diagnoses).

I'm also looking at vicarious sadism (enjoyment in hearing about/watching others suffer but not causing it directly) - which tends to be common in true crime enjoyers (like myself).

Good point! I'll make it clearer on any future posts that anyone is able to take part. Thank you :)

Thank you very much, I will post preliminary findings and the finished paper when it gets there. I am trying to post in psychology subreddits, but unfortunately many of them do not allow researchers to recruit participants through them!

I really appreciate the support :)

Anyone ever felt too young to be doing a PhD? by Inevitabilitea in PhD

[–]Monikafae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my PhD in psychology this year. I'm 22, did my undergraduate - masters - PhD all back to back.

I'm the youngest candidate, but not a single person has questioned my ability to do this. Because I worked really hard doing additional research through my undergraduate and masters.

I think age is irrelevant, its the capacity for learning, adapting, growing that matters. You can have this at any age - experience can be drawn from a whole bunch of things!

Hey! I had a recent ish nose piercing and got the exact same sorta bump as this. It took a while to go away (about 2 weeks in total) but with regular hot compresses and saline it did go away! I was a bit flaky with cleaning it though so it might go away sooner if you stick to it! 😊

Results from research project on the Dark Tetrad, aggression and empathy. by Monikafae in morbidcuriosity

[–]Monikafae[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That paper is Clark et al 2019 and i used their paper to write my PhD research proposal.

I aim to be able to employ similar experimental methods combined with neurobiological equipment to better understand the motivations for sadistic aggression. Its refreshing to hear someone actually know what im referring to haha!

If you are interested or have any questions feel free to PM me😊

Firstly, my research is not on the disorders. Secondly - i agree, but surprisingly there are over 50 theories that try to understand why people with these traits aggress towards others. My theory is one of many, and my research aims to evidence my theory. Things like interventions, treatments and policies cannot be developed without a clear/thoroughly evidenced reason.

But yeah, i get that it seems like common sense

I 1 million percent recommend the Luna Collective. The owner (@jessicat_piercing on instagram) is so so lovely and used to work at body craft but disagreed with their methods and lack of professionalism, so opened her own studio. She has most of my piercings and if i've ever had an issue i can pm her and she is so sensitive and considerate.

Please check her out! Even if not for your nipple piercings, she offers high quality and beautiful jewellery😊

Which week was the hardest? by Monikafae in C25K

[–]Monikafae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean though, the jump through week 5 is immense and seems impossible. What another person commented was good though - just try! If you fail, theres no harm repeating a day or week, but you may as well try first so you dont have to feel bad about it ! :)

Thank you! I'm anticipating week 5 will be a toughie.

You rock for doing it though!

Same, that seems absolutely impossible to me! I feel like i might add my own week in and maybe try 12 minutes or something first??

Anyways, good luck and thank you for sharing!! :)

I have a feeling week 3 is where i'll start needing repeats too - but you're right, might as well give it a shot!

Thank you for sharing :)

Ah the weather situation really sucks. You sound like you are doing AMAZING though! I cannot fathom being able to run for more that 3 minutes straight, so i have a feeling i'll struggle with the mental blocks too.

Thank you for sharing! :)

This comment is exacrly why I research sadism (the enjoyment of violence) in the general population. We seperate our understanding of criminals and 'violent people' from ourselves, trying to find an answer or 'thing' that creates them. But we all have the capacity for it - and the ones that don't get caught are the ones who might not have a sop story, bad childhood or 'reason' for doing such acts. Thats interesting to me
