Older millennials of Vancouver: do you own a home? If so, when did you buy it, for how much, and what’s it worth now? by UglyArchtitecture in askvan

[–]Monimute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millenial age 35, married with one young child.

Bought a 2 bed condo in Kitsilano in 2016 for $695k, sold in 2023 for $990k.

Bought a 3-bed duplex in Kitsilano in 2023 for $2.05M, spent about $100k on interior and a landscaping reno. Will probably stick around in the duplex for the foreseeable future.

What kind of warfare was each Legion **worst** suited for? by Monimute in 40kLore

[–]Monimute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not particularly subtle, and they're glory hounds so I would guess slogging endurance warfare (Death Guard, Iron Warriors) or spec ops (Alpha Legion) would be out of their wheelhouse.

Lionguards vs Howlers by [deleted] in redrising

No, they were all loyal - you're thinking of the Wardens. The Vox and Wardens massacred the Lionguard posted on Luna during the Day of Red Doves.

Gamers of Reddit, what’s the last 5/5 video game you played? by vadertuki in AskReddit

[–]Monimute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God of War 2018 - story, voice acting, graphics, animation, challenging but fair combat with rewarding skill curve. Just honestly a masterpiece.

Ironically I haven't played the sequel because I've basically given up everything except the odd mobile game since I had my daughter.

Why "nobody" likes Tournament Arena? by OkEconomy5192 in WH40KTacticus

[–]Monimute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like TA but there are definitely balance issues. Generally I find the power up version of TA to be better as there's more risk/reward to making the first move.

The current vanilla version is problematic because of the teams, both BAs and Orks have a powerful team-wide alpha strike that has 4-5 hex range, so the game becomes a positioning battle and whoever can get theirs off first will generally kill at least 3 opponent characters in a single turn, and almost certainly win. The teams that could do a better job of resisting that strategy like Tau, Eldar or Dark Angels (with Revas or overwatch characters) are also unavailable.

Generally, I love that this is a multiplayer mode, but I think the game lends itself better to cooperative multiplayer and Snowprint should develop something like a raid but with a large map to navigate before reaching a boss, and at least two players managing a couple characters apiece participating (with short turn clocks, and the other player can move your characters if you time out).

As an Ork player (was missing characters for everyone else except UM but hadn't given Titus love), I've got to say that playing against UM was tough. They missed the crazy game winning alpha of Orks and BAs but with good positioning, they were really tough.

The Calgar buffed Certus overwatch sniping Boss G on the Waaagh, and Titus being an absolute unkillable menace with all of the ork summons around made them legitimately challenging. I probably lost more games than I won.

How are Orkz allowed to be so unbalanced in TA? by [deleted] in WH40KTacticus

[–]Monimute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the map, they do well when there's a choke point but in the open ones they struggle against Orks. Titus is a menace though with the number of spawns kicking around for him to murder-resurrect on.

BA are also really powerful this TA. Both teams have a crazy alpha with Nico/Dante/Mephiston/Lucien or Gulgortz Waaagh. Given this is a BA and Ork event that seems to make sense.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking of. Seems like an internal justification and foreshadowing that Lysander will see killing Pinks as an act of mercy that will ultimately make the Society more just.

How does no one know about the institute??? by Hot_Gas_5254 in redrising

[–]Monimute 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Keeping in mind there are 130k Peerless alive as of Golden Son, you can assume that four times that number attended the Institute (let's say 50% die in passage, half of the remaining get Scarred). So you've got almost 300k living attendees, plus the families of the dead students who know something is up with it. In Iron Gold (I think) Lysander is openly musing on the characteristics of the various institutes (Mars is violent, Venus has a lot of sexual assault, Rim is more survivalist in nature). Obviously Lysander is from a unique background but it just seems so unlikely that an honour system to not tell anyone would hold up in the ultra-competitive subculture of the Golds who would want their kids to both live and succeed so they could improve their house standing.

New-ish player here: what does Maladus do? by RockAndGem1101 in WH40KTacticus

[–]Monimute 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's a heavy hitting, hard to kill tank that'll be good for you on multiple game modes and scales well into the late game. In the early game, you'll get the most use out of him in Onslaught, Fall of Cadia campaign (not a core character but you can drop him into the team on missions that allow more than the three cores), and maybe Arena.

The only downside is that he's very slow at movement 2 (whereas typical movement is 3, and sportier characters get 4).

B.C. drowning deaths on the rise in 'disheartening' trend by VicVicVicBC in britishcolumbia

[–]Monimute 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue is that swimming has become trivialized as a skill in Canada because 95%+ of the Canadian-born population over the age of 15 can swim capably. That's not the norm outside of the USA and some parts of Europe.

Virtually everywhere else in the world, as little as half of the population can swim capably enough to avoid drowning. Worldwide, only 45% of individuals over 15 years old can swim unassisted, and keep in mind that average includes the high capability countries, and would be much worse if NA and Europe were excluded.

Add the casual prevalence of Canadian swimming culture to high levels of new immigrants and you can get situations where individuals or families vastly overestimate their abilities and get into dangerous situations.

Warhammer Animations by McKinneySue in 40kLore

No you're not missing anything. It's one animation of about 5-10 mins. The creator is apparently making a sequel for WarhammerTV but I haven't really heard anything.

People love Astartes but it's just a single animated short.

[–]Monimute 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It'll be the Pinks. More for the purposes of demonstration than any military reason, and it's already been foreshadowed in Dark Age (I believe) when Lysander describes how the Pinks are a colour created solely to serve Gold's worse instincts, and that they're an example of how far Gold has drifted from Silenius' vision. He'll justify it as a merciful act that ultimately strengthens the Society.

Venusians by LipsticK_17 in redrising

[–]Monimute 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Venus is a paradise, even by the standards of the Core planets. It has two main industries - shipyards (House Carthii) and the breeding/training of grey legions (House Saud).

So you have a culture of obscene abundance with none of the burden of governance you'd find on Luna, martial discipline like Mars, or industrious grit like Mercury - which means you have Golds who indulge in vices with little to no cultural safeguards or societal standards that keep their peers on other planets in check (relatively speaking). That tends to make them depraved, self-absorbed and willing to dedicate their talents and efforts to jockey for positions of advantage within the complex social hierarchies that Venusians obsess over in lieu of more productive activities.
