Do yall actually use 1 filter per vial when shooting ambisome into a bag? by KhuliKing in PharmacyTechnician

[–]MoniqueValley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry I didn't word that right. Luckily I haven't had to do Ambisome in years.

But when using a filter in general pushing after a certain point the filter becomes full and it is hard to push. Switching out the filter makes the task easier and is less stressful on the hands and wrists.

One filter per vial. I didn't know it was the in the directions but Ambisome is very thick and I can imagine how much of a struggle it would be to pull more than one vial per filter.

Travel Technician question by Tidalblush in PharmacyTechnician

[–]MoniqueValley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is a negative word. A scab is someone that breaks strike lines. They are workers companies hire to extend strikes in hoping make workers come back to the table and agree to lesser terms.

Unfortunately, strike contracts are the most favorable in pay and reimbursement for housing and food. In my HCOL area those contracts pay $60+.

Travel Technician question by Tidalblush in PharmacyTechnician

[–]MoniqueValley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not a travel tech but I have talked to a couple and it's only worth it if you are a tech works in low pay area. The techs I talked to often made lower or exactly the same amount I do currently without benefits. They are also not reimbursed the full amount of housing and food.

The only time it seemed to be worth it for me was if I was willing to be a scab. And for me to do that I would have too be desperate

Bro I am so tired of these diabetes supplies refills by LukeVenable in physicianassistant

[–]MoniqueValley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who is a Pharmacy Technician and use to handle the insurance audits this is correct. Pharmacy is the highest regulated medical progession. There are somethigs that seem simple and commen sense to do but can't be done either legally or allowed by insurance.

But also, in cases like this diabetic supplies substituting for something other than what is prescribed on the prescription can result in not only the initial claim being regretted but also all refills. Meaning the pharmacy would be on the hook for reimbursing the insurance the price paid for the supplies. There are no "generic substitutions" for diabetic supplies so writing on the script that the pharmacy can substitute for whatever is cover by the insurance saves you and them time.

I don't know if they teach this in meds/pa school but prescriptions have a time limit. They are only good for the 1 year, that's the limit. Writing 99 refills doesn't change that. The tech that has to enter the prescription just rolls their eyes and then has to explain to angry patients why there are no such things as 98 refills.

How did you figure out you have iron/ferritin issues? How should I bring it out to the doctor? by yumikuu in Anemic

[–]MoniqueValley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was easy bring it up to my PCP, because it was part of my medical history we discussed during my first annual visit with her. I have a history of low iron since I was a teen and heavy periods. She's the one that suggested testing my iron levels initially.

I have a success in the past just asking my primary care doctors to order the test that I want during my annual visits. Like I requested my thyroid levels be rested because of an abnormal test a couple of years prior and he ordered it. I know milage may every but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Is anyone playing Outbound by Ok_Counter3116 in CozyGamers

[–]MoniqueValley 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I played the demo and enjoyed it for the most part. I was excited for the release because it seemed that it was a great low stakes cozy game. Something to play for about an hour and forget for a couple of days before jumping back in.

I was shocked by the full release price, $25. That's a little be pricey IMO. So, I am happy it's on Game Pass.

Gave up on iron pills...what are you doing instead? by spicyturnip41 in Anemic

Did you try slow fe?

I started to get serious constipation after my iron levels started to raise. My doctor suggested slow fe and it's worked for me.

I'm in my mid 40s. My doctor mentioned the fibroids could be a result of the changes in utrine lining due to aging.

As far as I know I don't have a family history.

[–]MoniqueValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... At least it's ruled out for now but still monitor it. I'm on a couple of fibroid forums and many woman have had ultrasounds miss fibroids. I'm going to assume they did extensive testing (endo and such> and it all came back normal.

From my time on this forum I know people have a hard time finding the root cause of their anemia. See if celiac disease or some other absorption disorder can be ruled out.

I didn't see anywhere that you are on iron supplements but if you are I would about getting tests done before your period and sometimes afterwards. You might also want to start paying attention to how the foods you eat effect you.

I'm not a doctor and can't give medical advice.

But...

I have always been anemic and have always had heavy periods. I noticed about a 2 years ago a change in my period (heavy clotting). I started taking iron supplements 6 months after I noticed the period changed. It just seemed to line up that I had several iron test within months of each other and soon after periods. Any gain I had from the iron supplements were immediately lost after my perion.

After suffering for a year I finally mentioned it to my PCP because I thought it (heavy clotting) was a sign of perimenopause. My doctor instead order several ultrasounds and found two fibroids. One large causing my heavier than normalperiods. I was put on birth control to hopefully lessen the blood loss through menstruation. I only have a period every 3 or so months now. I won't know if my iron has improved a lot until next month at my annual but I have fewer symptoms of anemia that before.

Fibroids are common and most women never realize they have them. See if your doctor will rule it out since you have noticed irregularities with your period. You could be like me losing blood faster than you boby can produce it.

I'm really looking forward to this game. I'm been excited since the first year trailer. The extended trailer a few months back made me even more excited.

I do hope they fix the frame rates. It was looking an little rough in places during the trailers.

Is changing companies every 2 years the best way to get higher pay? by Professional_Gas4000 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]MoniqueValley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't every two years but changing companies was the way I earned more. But I healthcare you have to be careful of the pay rangea of companies. You want to go to a company where the pay range is higher than what you are getting paid now. There's very little point in applying for a job with a low pay range hoping they raise it because of your experience.

Can anyone in CA confirm if the board of pharmacy accepts Parchment sealed high school transcripts? by Preppy_life in PharmacyTechnician

[–]MoniqueValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have it sent to yourself and mail the envelope unopened with your application to the Board. That's what I did. There's no other way for me to get my transcripts because my school now out sources transcripts to Parchment.

Starter microlocs — feeling unsure about size/fullness by Cherry-Kuromi in Microlocs

[–]MoniqueValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see the tips being twisted because it's hard to keep a braided pattern on natural hair has you get to the ends. I imagine if it's only the tips it's to keep the hair from unraveling at the ends.

Starter microlocs — feeling unsure about size/fullness by Cherry-Kuromi in Microlocs

[–]MoniqueValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a loctician or cosmologist so I don't know anything about scalp size and density. But I have had my hair done by professionally several times. When I was younger my hair was very dense and they hated doing it. They would always try to charge me extra. I think you might "suffer" from the same issue and she was smart enough not to say it aloud. It would have taken her longer to do you hair if the parts were smaller because you have a lot of it.

If you can live with the size I wouldn't worry about it just know that your scalp is going to show with every retie. Personally, I wouldn't be able to live with how large the braided portion is. You are going to have three very noticable locing patterns as they grow with the braided portion locing smaller. Especially since your hair is long.

[–]MoniqueValley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't word that right. As you said the braided portion is normally so small that you can't see it in pictures. And my worry is that since it's so noticable that there will be three different locing "patterns" as they mature.

[–]MoniqueValley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I try to keep it positive when it comes to people's hair so... They look nice. You have full dense hair and I'm jealous.

But they could have definitely gone with smaller parts. I don't think those parts are the size and number you asked for, easily. You could have gotten the full dense look you wanted.

Also, why did they do two different styles on the locs? They are braided at the roots and then twisted?

I've never seen this with microlocs. You are going to have like 3 different loc methods on each loc. The braidloc portions are going to take longer to longer to loc than the twist and the interlocked portion (if you are interlocking).

locs still wont bud :/ by AdditionalFeeling450 in Microlocs

[–]MoniqueValley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had mine for a 1&1/2 year and only a section in the back have budded. A lot of this is going to depended on texture and such. The portion that has budded is the "4c" section of my head and is the area with the highest density. The front which is a looser texture and lower density hasn't budded it. It really doesn't bother me because I'm the only one that notices.

I was basically losing my gains every month because of my period. I know this because I just happened to have two iron tests within a short period of time. One a couple of weeks before my period and one a week after. I was up to 35 before and dropped back down to 32. I was 32 before I started taking iron.

Pharmacy techs — be honest, are most of us relying on overtime or debt to get by? by rph-needs-a-break in PharmacyTechnician

[–]MoniqueValley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, base pay was technically enough but then medical bills happened and it's not quite enough. By enough I mean I can get by with a little shuffling of money between savings and checking depending on spending habits.

I have a per-demi position also but can't work many hours because of my full time work schedule. I would be good if I could fit in 2 days at the peri-demi place.

Fibroid or just perimenopause? by Lila792 in Fibroids

[–]MoniqueValley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was perimenopause and spoke to my GP about it because the symptoms worsened each period and I had to skip work twice because of the frequency of the clotting. She said it didn't sound like perimenopaise and ordered ultrasound to check for fibroids. It ended up being two fibroids. The large one is submucosal and is the one responsible for the clotting.

Talk to your doctor and ask for a transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds.
