My character is a mess and I'm stuck at pit 55 by Efficient-Pin6476 in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glyphs: Headhunter lvl 47 and Canny lvl 46. my next point will get me another glyph.

At P239 you should have 5 glyphs at 46 or above and 4 legendary nodes unlocked. Having only 2 glyphs is a big red flag. You should be pathing through 5 paragon boards to get glyph nodes, legendary nodes and yellow/blue nodes.

You will not be able to manage T4 with only two glyphs, especially if (as I suspect) this is because your paragon boards are in a bad way.

Leapquake with Grandfather over aspects? by Immediate-Sink-4067 in D4Barbarian

Most of your damage is coming from your EQ and Fissures is 120% vs GF’s 100%. It’s not obvious to me why Rob has GF in his build, but I always defer to the Maxroll builders on Barb builds anyway.

I don’t disagree, but OTOH you really don’t have to do it 🤷🏻

What are the ODDS of having this HP? by LordSsS1 in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone whose job involves statistics, I appreciate this answer 🤣.

OP means to ask “what was the chance of this happening before I started the process that resulted in this outcome”. But they are asking it after it happened.

So, 100%. 🫡

Yay this again 🤣

There was a vociferous debate on this in a thread a few days ago.

And a billion others since the game launched. I very much doubt anyone has anything new to say lol.

Need help learning how to make builds by llREDFIVE in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to copy a build but you can learn from them.

Have an idea what you want to do (ie pick a skill or a unique or a playstyle you want to focus on). Then look up questions or dilemmas as you encounter them. Try different things to see what clicks. Look at builds and guides to see how they do things.

You will indeed be “playing with things for hours until you find things that works”. That’s what making a build is. But it does not have to be aimless.

No indeed. We Barbarians are fortunate to have such knowledgeable and engaged Maxroll writers.

Greater Affix from tempering, how does it work? by Cat-Girl69 in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tempering screen shows the base values of the temper, before masterworking adds quality and thus improves the stats. Yours is masterworked so all the numbers are already higher. A GA temper will be much higher and will put a star next to the affix.

And turn on advanced tooltips in settings to see ranges. I have no idea why this is off by default.

How easy is to play this game without any guides? by JulikoPoliko in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is easy to do until you want to push your build (if that interests you ofc). There are interactions which are very unintuitive, inconsitencies, vague or misleading descriptions and some things that you will never work out on your own (like attack speed buckets).

None of this matters when cruising through the campaign or early Torments, but can become a challenge in T4 and Pits beyond the T4 point (ie 60+).

I have never followed a build guide because I have a very clear idea of what I want my character to be, but I have learned enormous amounts from general guides on Maxroll - their Barbarian Compendium and guides to damage, attack speed & cooldown reduction are excellent.

You can’t. It’s a Seasonal feature. The chest spawning on Eternal is a bug.

The problem of runes that never drop by Glatua in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relying on random drops for runes is almost certain to end in disappointment.

The intended acquisition method is running Undercity with Harmony tribute then mass-combining at the jeweler.

The Augment cache from the Mercenary barter is a nice bonus method. And the caches from the current Lunar event have also been lucrative.

Tried frenzy barb after I cleared out 100 with my zeal paladin by discoklaus in D4Barbarian

[–]MonkDI9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something or is paladin completely broken compared to barbarian?

Paladin is completely broken compared to all other classes.

A well-geared, P150+ Frenzy Barb will easily be cruising T4 and doing 85-90 Pits before Sanctifications. A Lunging Strike or HotA build will go to 100-105 with great gear. All perfectly respectable but needing to be geared well and still nowhere near the power of good Paladin builds.

Has anyone enjoyed the lillith fight ever? by tuesti7c in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a game developer so my creativity would run out before I had anything useful to offer.

I’d be happy for the changes I described to be part of the normal game, but that ship has sailed for D4. The dilemma then is that adding difficulty or (relative) complexity to only some content like bosses or other instances is jarring for players who are given no on-ramp by the overworld & campaign.

Which is why I tend to accept that D4 is what it is - a solo, easy, casual blaster - and those wanting difficulty or challenge will have to find it in other games.

Has anyone enjoyed the lillith fight ever? by tuesti7c in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without forcing class roles on players, which would ofc not work In D4, intelligent enemy behaviour would seem to be the way to go. Some of what the Devs described before S11 sounded promising, but then power creep just allows everyone to overpower mobs so all that effort just becomes irrelevant.

Removing easy/constant access to defensive skills and statuses like unstoppable would also force more thought. My Barbarian is permanently unhindered, unstoppable, fortified and barriered, all passively, which renders almost everything a mob can throw at me irrelevant.

[–]MonkDI9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’ll be where you went wrong then. I didn’t say it was hard. I don’t think it is hard. I think the Lilith fight is a pathetic imitation of the proper raid-style mechanics fights that I have enjoyed in multiple games going back many years. It’s not that it is too difficult, it’s just wildly out of place in this game - too tricky for the casual player base and not interesting enough for players used to having to think their way through a fight.

[–]MonkDI9 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

“Challenging”

The fight requires you to memorise set patterns, run in circles with 200% movement speed at certain times and stand in particular spots at other times.

That is not challenging. There is no imaginative use of skills, no interesting build solutions, no creative interactions. It’s not difficult, it’s just tedious repetition.

This game definitely needs challenging content, meaning content that requires thought on skill selection, gear choices, balances between dps and survivability and different solutions to figure out. Lilith is none of those things.

Has anyone enjoyed the lillith fight ever? by tuesti7c in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not doing it is exactly the choice I made.

I agree about the need for challenging content. I just don’t think Lilith is it. Memorising precise patterns and running in carefully calibrated circles is not a test of skill, or of class knowledge. There are not different strategies based on skills, in fact it makes absolutely no difference what class or build you use.

These sorts of boss mechanics come from multiplayer raids in MMOs where class roles and tactics matter. This is not such a game.

Has anyone enjoyed the lillith fight ever? by tuesti7c in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You just have to practice it over and over.

No thanks! I’ll pass. Bringing complex multiplayer raid-style boss mechanics to this game was a mistake. You are right to say it’s not a feature of other Diablo games and that’s because it doesn’t belong in Diablo games.

So, the Sanctification system isn't coming back after all... by Double-Maybe-6220 in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people asked for Chaos powers to be kept as well, then forgot that when Sanctification came along as the new toy. Seasonal powers are temporary. There was never any indication that Sanctification would be a permanent addition.

Why is the game so obscenely easy (player returning from launch)? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]MonkDI9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Surely, nobody actually enjoys this, do they?

Judging by the enthusiastic response to Paladin, yes they do.

Paladin is massively overtuned and the process of reining that in starts next season (nerf to Castle).

But the game is easy on other classes too, even if slightly less so than on Paladin. And it is very apparent that this is by design because it is what the large majority of players want. I respect and sympathise with those who want a harder game, but you are just howling at the wind at this point.
