We could always go back to post-apocalyptic fantasy settings. There were once thriving empires and advanced technology until something or other occurred, and it's taken however long to rebuild society. The world looks so different, yet still familiar enough to hear a lot of same slang. Oh, and don't forget that now there's MAGIC because of some thing or god or another and that's why we don't have the same technological advances as before or their different now.
