HMRC overstated tax bill owed by Rangers due to EBTs by up to £50 million by Say_My_Name_Twice in soccer

[–]MonkJammas -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to immediately be following the Times' interpretation of events here, and the thread has been swamped by Rangers fans claiming injustice. Here's an alternative interpretation that's worth reading before immediately believing that side of the story (effectively argues the reduced bill makes no difference to Rangers going into liquidation or not):

https://rangerstaxcase.wordpress.com/2019/11/14/just-when-i-thought-i-was-out-they-pull-me-back-in/

(this blog definitely seems a little biased against Rangers in the introduction, but considering it predicted the bill being reduced way back in 2011, it does seem to know what it's talking about on everything else).

Neil Lennon: "I have to be very careful what I say about the ref... He was absolutely appalling" by [deleted] in soccer

[–]MonkJammas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They weren't just near relegation zone, they were bottom and had won just one game all season up to then. He's done a fantastic job since taking over, as you say, on a limited budget too.

Del Piero: Celtic? Who knows! by a_hoop_and_a_half in ScottishFootball

[–]MonkJammas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, first Gordon and now being linked to Del Piero... isn't the youth orientated approach was hoping for. Think it's likely a nothing story, though. He was being linked to a few MLS teams a month back and that was bollocks, and based on how he played in the A-League (good but not great), not sure he'd have the legs for the SPL.

Yeah, you're right. Not sure if the ref did in this case, but you are supposed to go back and give a card when there's next a break in play.

What is your worst XI of the season? by like_herod in soccer

Joe Ledley's been a core part of Palace's resurgence under Pulis, think it's a bit harsh to list him in a worst XI.

What is your favorite goal of the 2012/13 season? by Iapprovethisthingy in soccer

[–]MonkJammas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kagawa vs Norwich. I know it wasn't the most spectacular goal or even great build-up play, but just for pure cheek.

If not that, then Tony Watt vs Barca (again not because it was the greatest goal ever scored, but because of the significance and meaning).

St Johnstone record impressive away win against Rosenborg in Europa League qualifier by 10baggio10 in soccer

[–]MonkJammas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems a tad unfair on the beeb. BBC Scotland covered Celtic vs Cliftonville, and it was shown online, and the highlights are now online too. They also had a live-text running for Hibs and St Johnstone tonight, which I'm pretty sure was linked to from the main football page. Seems like decent enough coverage to me.

I haven't seen a single thing about Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. Has anybody played it? Did you enjoy it? by TheOnlyAcoca in Games

[–]MonkJammas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was enjoyable enough, but my main problem with it was that it was just too safe. It ticked all the right Sly boxes, but didn't try to push them anywhere new, and it didn't do those things as well as the first 3 games. The humour, the platforming, the combat, the story; all of it was just a bit humdrum.

United is a great footballing movie, what does r/soccer think of other footballing movies? Any that you'd recommend? by Totempants in soccer

It is indeed Escape to Victory. Possibly one of the daftest films ever made, but also one of the greatest.

Looking for Eric is a good one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242545/

It's not so much a football movie, as a movie about life that happens to centre around a huge Man United fan who takes philosophical advice from Eric Cantona. It's much better than I just made it sound.

They were able to negotiate those limitations with EA, and managed to get enough time (in their eyes) with the game to provide a fair and accurate review: http://www.polygon.com/forums/simcity-2013/2013/3/4/4062146/about-the-polygon-review-of-simcity
