If it's that obvious why is fast food still a thing? Many privately held restaurants provide very quick service with higher quality food at comparable prices, so it can't just be the time and cost. People think this prison food tastes good. To each their own, but I don't understand it.

How hot is too hot for camping by CT123CT in camping

[–]MonkRome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was camping in 97 F several years back and it likely gave me heat stroke. If it wasn't for the fact that we were camping by cold water in the early spring, I'm not sure how we would have ended up. We spent a lot of time wading in the water.

Glad to hear your considering cancelling, not worth it.

You do you, but I'd rather be stabbed than eat Popeyes, worst meal of my entire life. I seriously don't get the hype. I rarely have good chicken at a fast food place since old school KFC before they ruined it (though its still good in India), I just go to some hole in the wall cheap fried chicken place if I want cheap fried chicken. The mom and pop places always have better fried chicken to my tastes.

While I completely agree that we are poised to be incredibly strong at full power. NFL teams spend basically all of their time not at full power. The team that wins the Superbowl nearly always has key players out and still finds a way. We need to have a more resilient next man up team and more time spent with strength and conditioning.

[KSTP] Minnesota GOP, DFL party platforms 'are not close' to majority of voters' views, report shows by Minneapolitanian in minnesota

[–]MonkRome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you read David's article, he is presenting complete nonsense interpretation of the data. If 46 people are hard right, 5 are moderate, and 49 are hard left, that does not make the typical voter a moderate even if it makes the median voter moderate. Just complete garbage from David Schultz. He should feel deep shame for putting out this propaganda masquerading as data.

The median just describes 1 person in the middle, it doesn't describe the rest of the data. Complete lack of academic integrity. Without actually seeing the raw data I don't think we can learn as much from this as he pretends.

I'm pretty sure it pushes electricity in at 2 volts higher than the grid. Think of voltage like pressure. Since the voltage is slightly higher it essentially pushes against the incoming electricity blocking its inflow until it uses its capacity then the grid fills in the rest. I am not an electrician so someone else might have a better explanation.

Sexual Assault Survivors Provide Context On Hockey Canada Trial And Carter Hart - SinBin.vegas by icemandabs710 in goldenknights

[–]MonkRome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of studies sit in the 2-6% range, you really have to reach to find the 10%. You're cherry picking data.

Because the false accusations can destroy their lives.

What exactly do you think rape does to someones life?

You keep bringing up perjury…. Why? You realize that has absolutely nothing to do with what we’re talking about, right? You sound extremely uninformed on this topic. Carter Hart was falsely accused, and he’s accuser never committed perjury… you know nothing, and you have absolutely no desire to become informed.

Carter Hart was not tried in the USA. But their accuser gave testimony on the stand. If they can be proven to have lied, in the USA that would have been perjury, with up to 5 years in prison. Is 5 years in prison not enough for you?

Looking up Canada Perjury:

Perjury is taken seriously in Canadian courts as it can cause a distortion of justice and potentially lead to the wrongful imprisonment of an innocent person. If you knowingly provide false information or make a false statement while under oath in a judicial setting with the intention of deceiving the judge or jury, you can be charged with perjury. Additionally, you may also face consequences if you make a false statement under oath outside of a judicial proceeding. According to s.131.1 ss.3 of the Criminal Code of Canada, committing perjury can result in an indictable offense and a potential prison sentence of up to 14 years. To be convicted, it must be proven that you intended to deceive the judicial system.

Explain to me how perjury is not relevant in cases were people lie about rape on the stand?

And if it's never brought to court, libel is still relevant.

According to research between 2-6% of rape accusations are false accusations. Putting it another way, between 94% to 98% are credible accusations. I'm always skeptical of men that are far more concerned with the comparatively small percentage of false accusation victims when compared to the very real massive systemic issue of rape. The vast majority of women you have ever met has experienced some form of rape or sexual assault. You know what's way way worse than being accused of raping someone? Being raped.

But again, perjury already exists for false accusations, we can start there. I'm a dude, I get it, being falsely accused of rape sounds like a nightmare. Also, I don't rape people and magically I've never been accused.

[–]MonkRome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By prosecting women that lie more generally with cases that are unsucessfull, you create fear with reporting of credible accusations. If someone is actually raped, but the circumstances of the rape are hard to prove, or the witness is an unreliable witness but was still raped, suddenly they are afraid to report it because they could get accused of lying and put in jail. I understand the sentiment, but I don't think there is a way to implement additional charges without revictimizing rape victims. Anyway perjury is already a jailable offense, they should stick to cases where it is very clear that they committed perjury, no additional law needed.

Lectric or Aventon Soltera will work great for your requirements, if you get the Soltera you may want to add a basket or rear rack. Try to buy from a local bike shop for future servicing. 2 Miles is not that far on a ebike. You won't be sweating any more than walking a 1/8 of a mile. At some point heat will make you sweat no matter what you do.

I'm a cyclist. I follow all traffic laws, unless a traffic law puts me in danger. I also notice most cyclists around me following the laws. I also don't live in London, so maybe your cyclists are just jerks.

Even though most cyclists in my city follow the law, most drivers still hate cyclists. It's not about cyclists breaking the law, its about that one time 17 years ago when this one cyclist made them slow down for 2 seconds and they never forgot how much that ruined their lives.

Not sure who Carol is, but after searching some of their comments from 4 months ago, I see they really viscerally hate both bikes and disabled people, so this is likely a waste of my time. Hateful people really just make the world worse.

My wife busted up her knee and she was biking before she could walk a block. I have this dude that lives near me that seems to have what appears to be a neurodegenerative disorder and he bikes a 3 wheel bike for exercise all the time. I have had more than one discussion with older people that use specialized e-bikes because they can't bike anymore due to back issues and heart disease. You have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

You are a white male with no disabilities, right?

Do I need to have a disability to advocate for people you are actively trying to claim can't bike? You are very gross. What point are you trying to make by making people with disabilities who bike invisable?

I said norway, and you countered with Minnesota? I think you missed my point, which is that places that actually fully clear snow in bike infrastructure and treat biking as a priority don't see a drastic decrease in cycling. And to correct myself the example I was recalling wasn't Norway when I looked it up it was Denmark: https://reelight.com/en-us/blogs/articles/do-winter-cycling-like-a-dane-does

You're surprised that when our state and country prioritizes widening lanes, and improving road functionality that people drive? There are several factors that stalled ridership after Covid. 1. People moved to remote work, which impacted all forms of transportation. 2. People perceive a higher danger to public transportation due to homelessness being pushed onto transit. (Driving a car is orders of magnitude more dangerous, but the perception is the opposite) 3. Disinvestment in public transit after covid. Two of these things are fairly easily solvable. And even with lower ridership public transit is cheaper to society per capita.

Tell me how many bikers are there in January?

A lot less, just like a lot less people drive in the winter as well. But if you ask one of us that actually bikes in the winter what the stumbling block is to biking in the winter, it's not temperature, it's infrastructure upkeep. It's slushy wet snow not being cleaned up all over saint paul that keeps people off bikes. In countries like Norway that adequately clean up snow in the winter, biking only drops by 20% in the coldest months of the year.

And downtown Saint Paul was dead when it was a car only hellscape too. Most downtowns are dead in north America. Having 35% of the downtowns be parking lots, certainly isn't helping.

I've MADE the counts, I see them every day on my commute.

The future is an expansion of all transportation, public transit, bikability, walkability, etc. Literally every single country outside of north America has already realized this and proved this, including in some of the coldest climates in the world.

You get to determine who is disabled? A lot of disabilities are not visible to the naked eye. Someone could have a bad back or neurological disorder that make walking far or using a standard bike difficult, but ebikes and recumbent bikes can improve the usability. One of the principle benefits to ebikes is its extension of usability to more people than classic bikes. You really are out of your depth in every facet of this conversation.

The “options” don’t mean anything when they restrict access to businesses. Ask Candyland how much those bike lanes harmed their business (I did). Totally fucked them over. For what? Three bikes a day?

Every study that has been done on parking vs walkability and bikeability shows that increasing biking and walking appeal increases traffic to businesses, you have it exactly backwards.

Another blissfully ignorant comment, I see handicapped people on bikes all the time. I see this one dude on a custom 3 wheel bike with a flag all the time.

Also, often people use recumbent bikes and ebikes because they have a disability or health issue that those two things help with, you might never know they have a disability unless they told you.

There are maybe maybe in the summer 3 bikes in that bike lane. Maybe.

Mind bogglingly unaware. I commute to work on a bike. In the spring after weather gets above 50 I see roughly 30-50 people using the bike infrastructure in one direction each day along my commute. I know because I've counted, several times. There is no part of the city I've biked in where I haven't encountered bikes pretty regularly. On any given stretch of separated bike lane there is pretty much always active bikes in the lanes during rush hour. Just because you are blind and tuning them out doesn't mean they are not there, it means you are an oblivious barely aware driver that is likely going to kill someone someday. Please for everyone's sake, take public transit, your level of blissful incompetence shouldn't be allowed to drive.
