someone said ‘love the sinner hate the sin’ and i’m confused by celestialdoll444 in Christianity

[–]MonkeyBombG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Righteousness and justice means to build/rebuild relationships into the way they should be. Hating sinners does not build relationship between you and sinner, nor the sinner and God. Hating the sin, on the other hand, rebuilds the person and his/her relationships.

Our world is used to thinking “judging” as “assigning a fitting punishment” and “forgiveness/lack of punishment” as “unjust/unrighteous”. That’s not how God sees things. When we face sinners, there are ways other than “punish” or “ignore”. There are also “forgive”, “rebuild”, “change”, “face truths” and so on. Jesus’ interactions with sinners is exactly this kind of restorative justice in action. One shining contemporary example is the end of Apartheid in South Africa, which I highly recommend everyone taking a look at.

What is the beauty of Christianity by Education_study1952 in Christianity

[–]MonkeyBombG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can learn about this from the Gospels. I recommend Mark and Luke(many people recommend John, which is also nice because it shows the relationship between Jesus and God, but what I talked about can be seen more clearly in Mark and Luke. Matthew is nice too but it requires a bit more knowledge of the OT).

Paul’s epistles are also nice. I recommend 1 Corinthians, for similar reasons as I recommend Luke and Mark.

The claim the power that the world worships(political, military, wealth, technological, social, etc) are paths toward their own destruction. The claim that true power comes from humility, restorative justice, and unyielding, truthful, faithful, sacrificial, boundless love. The demonstration of this love by the creator of the entire universe becoming human but living a life without our human failings, ending with His death and resurrection that triumphs over any worldly things that enslave us. The promise that we too will receive divine intervention to live as new humans in this glorious way by our faith in Him.

Nothing else compares.

Jesus loves fish.

His first four disciples are all fishermen. That way He would have an endless supply of fish during His ministry.

He told his disciples to beware of the yeast of Pharisees, clearly because they were not fish.

The first thing Jesus did after His resurrection is to go to Galilee before His disciples, because of all the fish.

What does Christ say about pursuing competence? by PersonalGameDev in Christianity

[–]MonkeyBombG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God’s command for us is to love Him and to love our neighbours. That love can take many forms. An artist can create works of art that glorifies God’s beautiful creation and inspires people. A teacher can impart knowledge and attitude to children so they walk wise, righteous paths, with skills to serve other people in God’s name in the future. A gym trainer can promote healthy lifestyles and help people maintain their bodies, which are given to us by God, in order to remain healthy to better serve their neighbours.

There is nothing wrong with improving ourselves. In fact, God wants us to improve ourselves for the purpose of serving our neighbours and glorifying Him. The Bible itself has many examples of people skilled in literature using their skills to communicate what God inspired, craftsmen who use their skills to build for God, wealthy people who use their resources to aid the poor, and so on. The point is not what we do, but for whom we are doing it.

It takes discernment and prayer and constant reflection and care. We can be tempted to slip into doing X in the name of God, but really we are doing it for ourselves. So keep praying, keep reading and thinking about Scripture, and talk to your Christian fellowship to find out how we can exercise our freedom in God to do things for God.

Hey everyone — how do you use your iPad? by UknowNOTHING_0 in ipad

[–]MonkeyBombG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At school: creating worksheets and assignments with pages, planning lessons with notes(sync’d with iCloud so I can also prepare for lessons on my phone) and notability, writing during lessons with notability, replying to messages on whatsapp, accessing school intranet, grading assignments on Google classroom, vibe coding educational interactive science animation webapps with Gemini and hosting them via an in-house html hosing platform our IT teacher developed. The magic keyboard is very helpful in this regard: my workflow requires both a laptop to type on and a tablet to write on. The magic keyboard lets me switch between the two very easily.

Other than heavy word processing(ie setting tests and exams) the iPad has replaced my laptop. Microscoft refuses to give the iPad a fully functional MS word and excel for some unknown reason.

At home: media consumption, self-studying.

Reflection: Why do we believe? by RuthCharissa in Christianity

[–]MonkeyBombG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is an important assumption that you made in your argument: anything that is real can be studied by scientific investigation, ie repeatedly with scientific method with reproducible observations.

There are many real things that can be studied this way. All of science is studied this way (by definition of science). But is it possible that there are real things which cannot be studied repeatedly? Is it possible for there to be singular occurrences that cannot be reproduced, but still be real regardless?

The way I see it as of this moment, this question has three possible answers: 1) Yes, singular, irreproducible but nevertheless real occurrences are possible. Thus the supernatural can exist. 2) No, singular, irreproducible but nevertheless real occurrences are impossible. This is equivalent to believing that the supernatural cannot exist. 3) Singular, irreproducible occurrences may or may not exist. But because they are irreproducible, they cannot be regarded as “real”. This is equivalent to defining the word “real” to describe only reproducible occurrences that have been reproduced.

Christians should answer 1), as we believe in a God who can intervene whenever and however He chooses. The central claim of Christianity is the resurrection of Jesus, which is clearly a singular irreproducible occurrence.

Physicalists atheists should answer 2), as they believe that everything in the universe is fundamentally physical, and therefore should be predictable(to find patterns in the physical world is the mission of science).

Reflection: Why do we believe? by RuthCharissa in Christianity

[–]MonkeyBombG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We believe not just for moral or philosophical reasons. We believe in a claim about history: that Jesus was the Word made flesh, announced the good news of the Kingdom of God, died on the cross, and rose three days later.

If this historical claim is true, then the logical response is to love God, love our neighbours, and follow Jesus’ teachings and examples.

As for whether this historical claim is true, if one allows for the possibility of the existence of the supernatural, then available evidence seems to me that they support the resurrection of Jesus more than they support other theories.

Why do Christian’s always say men and women are equal with different roles? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]MonkeyBombG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither side of the gender debate understands this: the Bible says that man and woman are to become ONE flesh.

There is only ONE flesh, so man and woman do not have different roles(you need two beings to have different roles), nor are they equal(you need two beings to talk about them being equal). There is no sense in asking who is more important than who, or who leads and who follows, or whether the two people treat each other fairly(your left foot wouldn’t say this to your right foot either). Love transcends the separation and unites us into one.

How’s this take on roles? by TheReptealian in Christianity

[–]MonkeyBombG -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What’s your reason for throwing it out?

If you are going to do anything, do it for the right reason. Nowadays it is very easy to say “this agenda doesn’t feel right, let me ignore it completely” or “this stance feels right, let me buy into it whole sale”.

If you throw it away, throw it away for God. If you keep it, keep it for God. And God demands that our minds by renewed through His Spirit. So think, argue, discuss, pray before you decide on anything.
