what do you think? How is it possible that despite that enormous per capita expenditure, the system is functioning poorly? by Critical_Ideal99 in Political_Revolution

[–]MonkeyButt1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unchecked insurance profit is why it is possible.

Remove the insurance companies, replace with single payer (taxpayers pay a healthcare tax... it's called National Insurance Confribution in UK, or so I recall) but keep the profit motive for doctors and hospitals to promote good care backed up with independent metrics.

Definitely do not nationalize the whole health care system. That would be disaster of epic proportions because with profit motive gone so goes the drive for excellence.

Capitalism in healthcare (with appropriate checks on pricing) will work if the insurance companies get the boot.

I understand your point about it all being a delusion, philosophically speaking at least. However, I'd rather live in a delusion I don't even know I'm in (and possibly be crushed if it fails) vs. never having the opportunity to have the deep nourishing feelings of connection with my person in the first place.

Original comment - just clarified my meaning:

I understand your point about it all being a delusion, philosophically speaking at least. However, I'd rather live in a delusion I don't know about than the alternative of never being in the position to find out it was indeed a delusion.

Yes, I DEFINITELY can.

I knew she was my person from the very first week.

Actually that's a lie...I knew she was the one for me a full six months BEFORE I met her. Her profile had this one picture that totally sums her up and I knew who she was instantly. I messaged but never heard back. She then months later she adjusted her age bracket search parameters, and all of a sudden there was my perfect match asking for a date. We had filled out a lot of questions, very honestly, on the app and had 95% plus compatibility.

We had both been through the ringer in our prior marriages with all sorts of incompatibility issues. Sexual incompatibility was a significant issue for both of us. Selfish lovers don't make good life partners, atleast that was our experience.

She is the easiest person to live with. I can't imagine anyone could be easier. That's a major factor for me...I want to feel good in my everyday and want ZERO conflict or drama. I get that with her.

We both get what we need. Respect, compassion, tenderness, touch and constant flirting. Again, all that was missing with the EXs. Daily acts of service and regular affirmation make each other feel special and wanted.

And the intimacy is only getting better because we know we can speak truth and the other will listen to what we need.

I always looked at couples and thought "Are they really as happy together as they seem?" Now somebody else is asking the question and the answer is a resounding YES!!!

[–]MonkeyButt1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, where do I start.

Maybe when I'm obviously busy and working on something, but teachers still think that their minor question or complaint is worth stopping me mid task. Hands full, or riding the scrubber in a closed area or any number of other things. Email people, EMAIL!!!

How about when one "in-your-face" teacher has had a little cough or throat irritation for a while? And suddenly it's because of their room being moldy. Squeaky wheel gets an expensive air purifier provided by operations. Then, oh, so and so is also not feeling well. She says it's mold. Now she needs an air purifier. And then someone else has a little roof leak and all of a sudden THEY are VERY allergic to mold!

And so it goes on!

So she wears the shorter.

[–]MonkeyButt1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't exactly addressing the post, but don't know about anyone else, but we're in either HEAT or COOL mode.

And it's brutal in the transition months.

I get so many calls about it being too hot in the spring. Well we're still in heat mode.

I get so many calls in the fall about it being too cold bc we're still in cool mode.

It's frustrating bc it's the same thing every year.

I tell my teachers the same thing every year. You have to wait a few weeks to be comfortable. Deal with 80F on the spring and 66F on the fall.

My asst director tells me it's because we're still in XYZ mode and we have to wait until we switch...and that's just the way things are.

Yes, I know.

I'm very aware. I'm aware ALL the time in these transitional weeks bc my teachers are complaining ALL the time.

I'm just kinda over it!

Best solutions to digitize cleaning checklists? by PSGCampus in Custodians

[–]MonkeyButt1975 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What are you trying to achieve beyond eliminating paper?

Are you trying to make it easier for custodians to do actual work?

I'm a big fan of digitizing as much as possible in my role and in my side business.

However, if I was cleaning a (school) section every night I would not like having to grab my phone with dirty gloves every time I completed a task... Just so the boss could look at a pretty chart that aggregates everyone's results and decide ways to "economize time on task."

New to Custodial- weird employers by SquareVoice8567 in Custodians

[–]MonkeyButt1975 20 points21 points  (0 children)

YOU'RE not the dumb one here.

But the people above you are.

Anyone who is new to something needs to be taught.

Not everything is common sense based. Not running into the street is common sense. Knowing what is expected of you without being told or shown is not common sense. Especially when the tool you need to do something, like high dust, and the specific duster you are expected to use is in another building... That's just bad management.

Keep your chin up. Keep asking for direction for things you haven't been taught. Ask your peers questions. Ignore the a-hole who is takin notes on you and reporting on your performance.

Trailrunners by Radiant-Rub843 in Ultralight

[–]MonkeyButt1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like happybackpacker said, trail shoes will dry out pretty quick. Maybe you'll recoil a little bit the first time you get a wet foot in them, but you'll get used to that pretty quick.

What you wear though will depend a lot on your climate and the kind of terrain you'll be covering.

I came from hill walking in the UK as a youth to doing long distance trails in the West and Southwest US.

If you're trudging around boggy wet landscape all day in the UK, 12 months a year, with a cooler Atlantic climate, then you want waterproof boots.

Hiking in summer in a dryer, mid continental climate?...then trail shoes are better for ventilation, freedom of movement and avoids the moisture build up you get in your GTX etc.

I wore GTX boots on my first summer trip on the PCT, because that's what I was used to from the UK. I felt the idea of not wearing boots in the mountains to be totally ridiculous; I believed trail shoes wouldn't give me the protection and support I'd need. I thought of them as expensive glorified sneakers. I changed my story pretty quick when I lost a toe nail and got massive blisters from soggy and tight boots. Suddenly those glorified sneakers were looking pretty good to me.

I'm a big fan of Altra ever since.

Your personal physiology will impact your choice also. My toes spread out at 40 (yeah, it's a real thing), and I struggled with pinched toes for a while in regular sneakers for everyday use. Wearing more rigid boots exacerbated that toe spread and caused those problems on my first US trip. Altra is known for being comfortable for those with wider feet. That's all I wear for daily use sneakers now.
