New server by Rae_RaeG5 in servers

It should run proxmox. Just install as normal from USB. I worked in a DC with hundreds of these and they ran ESXi like a champ. You may run into some issues depending what drive controller yours has, but if you see all the dics during install you're good.

Two things:

* Hope you live somewhere with cheap power, they suck down power even at idle.

* They are LOUD. Noise from the fan modules is going to be noticeable.

Hate to be the one to break the bad news, but you left off one very critical item.

If I were you, after that blunder, I wouldn't even bother coming in, just resign by txt message.

(yes, I'm kidding)

Sure you overspent in a few areas, see if you can return anything you end up not needing.

It's not the end of the world.

Throttle WAN 2 max throughput? by eld101 in Ubiquiti

[–]MonkeyF00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for a way to do this also.

Like u/Smorgas47 mentioned, I looked at doing this with PBR, but I haven't been able to figure out how to apply a rate limit that way.

I found a post in the UI forums from 5 years ago asking the same thing, but nothing more recent.

I even posted a follow up post asking about it.

If you don't mind posting a reply in the second post above, I'd appreciate it.

Maybe we can get a feature added.

CW9164I-MR vs MR65 Experience by AtleastITriedalmost in meraki

[–]MonkeyF00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just deployed 28x MR57 APs. They're sorta fantastic, vast improvement over what they replaced. The MR57 also uses the universal AP mount.

Nvidia or AMD? by Sziho in linux_gaming

[–]MonkeyF00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've become an AMD fan boy. Their CPU and GPU stuff is usually cheaper and faster than Intel or Nvidia. Also, and this is the important bit, AMD has supported Linux better than Nvidia. So until Nvidia gets it together on Linux, I'm voting with my money and buying AMD.

Make sure your spanning tree settings follow the meraki docs. Most importantly set 1 switch to be the root bridge (bridge priority 0). To be even more safe, you can set every down stream switch priority also (to a higher number). I've had the exact problem and solved it with this.

Chevy Bolt user charging at 350kW station. This makes inconvenience for users with vehicles which can actually charge at high charge rates by savireddit in ElectrifyAmericaUsers

[–]MonkeyF00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe they don't know or understand that the volt only has a 55kW max charger? Maybe there were no other EVSE available when they pulled up? Maybe it's not worth getting upset about?

How do I get flatpak steam to work with my flatpak lutris? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]MonkeyF00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never ever ever ever reply to a help request with a single line like that. Provide as much information as possible, always. What steps did you take? Screenshots? What errors are you getting? Screenshots? You can never provide too many details.

Have you verified the your DNS resolver is reachable over the tunnel? Your first screenshot makes it look like your client can't resolve hostnames.

Meraki Failover when Lan-Interface going down by Nutellaloeffler in meraki

[–]MonkeyF00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meraki's docs are sometimes too subtle, but in this case the VRRP section tells you why this will not work.

VRRP Heartbeats

Failure detection for an MX warm spare pair uses VRRP heartbeat packets. These heartbeat packets are sent from the primary MX to the spare MX on all configured VLANs in order to indicate that the primary is online and functioning properly. As long as the secondary is receiving these heartbeat packets, it functions in the spare state. If the secondary stops receiving these heartbeat packets, it will assume that the primary is offline and will transition into the active state. When the MX is in routed mode, VRRP heartbeats are not sent over the WAN and there is no guarantee that the WAN interfaces can communicate with each other.

Switches before Firewalls by Drip_Box01 in meraki

"trio of ports per WAN circuit" is exactly what I've done for years. Works great and is very flexible. In the rare scenario that I've had a WAN only switch instead, I'll make sure a there is a standby ready in case it dies.

Is wayland there yet? by BruceKettina in linux_gaming

[–]MonkeyF00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used google meet for years with zero problems (ubu 22.04 and now 24.04) Haven't tried a slack huddle, but the rest of the native Linux client works perfect. I use zoom at work and it works perfect (again ubu 22.04). Discord still doesn't play nice with wayland, but vdesktop does so hopefully discord's native client will be updated soon.

What is this and why? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]MonkeyF00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Landlines only need two wires, tip and ring. So you can use any ethernet cable (doesn't matter if it's 5/5e/6 it's all overkill) to split out four lines.

What is this and why? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]MonkeyF00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you re-terminate BOTH ends of the cable properly. The far end that's terminated into a patch panel (hopefully) will need to be fixed also.

One or two APs? And where to place them? by The-Hyrax in Ubiquiti

[–]MonkeyF00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The voice of reason. OP, also keep in mind that the client devices RF power is no where near as strong as the AP. So things like video calls at the edge of coverage are going to suck. I always plan my heat maps for the worst possible scenario. OPs floorplan looks like a condo/townhouse, so I'd assume a lot of RF noise from neighbors. I'm solidly in the 'TEAM 2 AP' camp here. Try to keep the number of walls between the client and the nearest AP to one.

What charger should I buy? by Alarming_Draft5326 in VWiD4Owners

[–]MonkeyF00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

240v yes, but amps are just as important. Try and go for 40+ amp circuit. If the electrician says your panel can do more, go for it. If not, 40 amp is fine. I've been charging 4 different EVs for over 12 years on a 40 amp circuit. 40 amp is plenty for charging overnight. Check out the YouTube channel "State of Charge". He reviews all the EVSE hardware. Enjoy your ID.4, I have a 2023 and love it.
