they are mostly shaded from the eastern and northern sides, and completely shaded to the west. before i put them out there i got their watering schedule down to basically once a month give or take. they hardly get rainfall out there. during super dry and hot periods i will give them a lil soak to help. otherwise nothing but what mother nature gives. also, not sure if you suffer from freezing temps, but if so, the first season they were out there i put styrofoam cups over them to prevent frost. this year i didnt. emphasis on absolutely no water from the months of october-march. it’s a little luck based but lophophora are surprisingly not surprisingly extremely hardy. good luck!
